Chapter 2 - The Seed of Celestial Awakening

The Seed of Celestial Awakening was a mystical artifact given to every child at the age of ten on a day known as the Festival of the Magical Blossom. This seed granted children the ability to sense and interact with the omnipresent mana that filled the world. The seed could be cultivated, which would lead to an increase in magical powers, longer lifespans, and various other benefits. However, for the Alvarsson clan, the Seed of Celestial Awakening was mainly a means to enhance their combat abilities.

Eldric's family gathered in the dining hall that evening. His mother, Lady Elfrida, presided over the meal, while his elder brother, Erik, and his twin younger sisters, Freya and Gisela, chatted animatedly. His elder sister, Astrid, was absent, as she was studying at the prestigious University of the Northern Gale, located in the largest city of the northern part of the Blackthorne Kingdom. This university was renowned for its diverse curriculum, with the Tempest Blade techniques—a set of wind sword skills—being one of the many strengths that attracted Astrid and other talented students from across the kingdom.

In the Blackthorne Kingdom, children attended school until the age of fifteen, after which they would join one of the limited number of universities scattered throughout the kingdom. Erik, who would enter university next year, shared Eldric's disinterest in combat, preferring to focus on business. As such, he planned to attend a civil university, specializing in trade and governance suited to the middle ages.

During dinner, Lady Elfrida sighed, "I can't raise my head in front of our relatives. Neither of my sons is interested in combat or magic." Her voice was tinged with disappointment.

Erik and Eldric exchanged glances before consoling their mother. "Mother, we understand your concerns, but we'll find our own paths and make you proud," Erik reassured her, while Eldric nodded in agreement.

Lady Elfrida gazed at her twin daughters and sighed, "Well, at least Astrid, Freya, and Gisela are my hopes."

Although Eldric's parents supported their children's choices, they subtly nudged them towards their own preferences, discussing the matter daily without going overboard. Eldric knew that they meant well, but sometimes it could feel overwhelming.

Baron Rurik mentioned his progress in cultivation during the conversation. "I'm approaching the peak of the fourth stage. If I can break through to the fifth stage..."

Lady Elfrida continued, "Our family's standing within the clan would improve significantly, and our noble status could be elevated from Baron to Viscount. This breakthrough would also provide greater opportunities and responsibilities for our children."

Eldric and Erik listened quietly without much reaction. However, Freya and Gisela's eyes widened with excitement. "That's awesome, Father! We also want to cross the fifth stage and become Celestial Commanders!" they exclaimed in unison.

As the family enjoyed their meal, Eldric finished his dinner, his interest in magic growing after listening to his parents' conversation and witnessing his siblings' enthusiasm. He found himself looking forward to the Festival of the Magical Blossom, which was just a couple of months away, with anticipation.
