Ari stared after him in confusion. "Rafael?" Food and date forgotten, her head whipping this way and that, searching for her friend who disappeared just as fast as he'd come. She grabbed Alaric's sleeve, tugging on it frantically. "Rafael was just there! Did you see him? He looked sad. Maybe..maybe he's not dead!" Her brown eyes finally looked back to Alaric shining with hurt. There was no way that was a hallucination. She felt fine and there was no one around to mess with her head.
Alaric nearly dropped a pack of seaweed when she tugged on his sleeve, turning so quickly to see the man he'd known for a long time. "Where?! No, I didn't. Are you okay? There's no one here." He placed the jar in the cart, still searching the aisle for Rafael but he was nowhere to be found. "Did you hit your head when you fell out the window?" He brushed his fingers against her face and turned her head side to side while holding her chin.
