Chapter 26 - Chapter Twenty Six: Little Brat

Morticia wandered about till it was night.

With no where else to go, she pleaded with a store owner to let her sit by the entrance, which he agreed to, skeptically.

The poor Morticia sat in silence, but a light tap on her shoulder was enough to jolt her. No, it was fright that consumed her. She thought it was one of the errand boys of the pot bellied man that had caught her, it was almost like she was expecting them.

Raising her head to look at who touched her from behind, Morticia discovered the person was Morgan's neighbor.

" Morticia?" The woman said.

" Madam Grace?" Morticia said in surprise as she stood up.

" What are you doing here? By this time of the night? Did Morgan beat you up again?'' the woman asked, examining her pale face.

It wasn't news to anyone in the trenches that Morticia was Morgan's punching bag. As a matter of fact, in that locality, it wasn't odd to see a man hit a woman at the slightest provocation.

" It's a long story madam Grace." Morticia replied breaking into a sob.

" It's okay. Why don't you come with me." Grace offered.

" Thank you madam Grace but I can't. What if Morgan sees me?"

" Oh dear. He won't, I'll make sure of that. You'll be staying indoors. You don't have to go out to do anything, okay? And besides, he will never suspect you are with me, it's very unlikely." Madam Grace said.

" But why are you doing this? We barely talk." Morticia asked.

" Of course we barely talk, but I know who's fault that is. Listen Morticia, I've always felt pity for you since you moved into the apartment, so now that you're in this predicament, I should do the little I can, besides it's just me and Rainy." Grace said. Rainy was her daughter, the one Morticia saw at the mall. [Chapter Sixteen].

Crying, Morticia embraced the woman. She was grateful.

Later that night, Morticia managed to enter Grace's house without suspicion. She then explained her ordeal to Grace.

The next morning, Rainy, Grace's daughter, woke up but she was startled to see Morticia sleeping in her room, on the floor precisely. It was Morticia's choice anyway.

Rainy went to her mother's room for some explanation.

Unfortunately, the take home for the little girl was that Morticia was helpless. Later that day, after Grace left for work, and Rainy had returned from school, Rainy walked up to Morticia who was doing a chore.

" Hey" she called out.

" Hi Rainy. Is there a problem?'' Morticia asked with a smile.

" How long do you plan on staying here?" Rainy asked, without a trace of smile on her face.

" Umm, your mom and I haven't discussed that yet. But wh..."

" I'm hungry." Rainy butted in, rudely.

Morticia abandoned the brush she was using to scrub the floor. She realized earlier the floor needed some scrubbing.

'' Ok. Let me go warm up the meal your mom asked me to give you when you_"

" No, I don't want that one.'' Rainy said folding her arms with a frown on her face.

" But I don't know wh_"

" She kept some money on the fridge, didn't she?" Rainy asked.

" Yeah. She did." Morticia said unsure of where the girl was heading.

" I have a little change with me too. So, I want you to get me some snacks." the bratty girl demanded.

" But I can't go outside, atleast for now. Please Rainy." Morticia pleaded.

" My mom told me, but Morgan is not outside, so you get for me or I'll scream" Rainy said.

'' Please Rainy. Don't do this. How am I supposed to avoid them?" Morticia asked referring to Morgan's boys.

'' I don't know. I just want my snacks."

Morticia felt like crying but there was nothing she could do.

" Umm okay. Just give me a few minutes more. When it's a li...."

'' No! You know I can tell my mom to chase you out right? I want my snacks now!''

Rainy demanded, raising her voice at Morticia.

" Okay okay. Fine! I'll go get your snacks okay? happy?! " Morticia asked the girl who left for her room immediately, to get the money.

_

On her way to the store, she bumped into Jinjin. Of course, like the athlete she was, Morticia ran as fast as she could!

But it seemed as though she had trouble written on her forehead.

She ran for a while only for her to bump into Morgan.

Then all the drama unfolded. [Chapter Five-Six].

~ Flashback Ends ~

" If I had known about this earlier, I would have drawn the brat's little rabbit ears." Jenna said.

After Morticia dropped the call with her mom, a few seconds later, Jenna returned from her room and saw the look on Morticia's face. That was what led to Morticia's narration.

" I guess it's all for the best" Morticia said.

" Yeah I g..."

A call came in before Jenna could finish speaking.

As she took the phone from Morticia, she saw it was her mom, but this time, Morticia excused her.

" You had better take the next flight to Hentritch, Right Now Jenna Smith!" Evelyn Smith shouted over the phone.
