Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten: Frenzy

" Good Day dad." Kendrell greeted.

" Oh my! Honey, looks like it might rain Purple and Black today. OUR son called." Waylon Graham exclaimed dramatically to his wife, Constance.

Facepalming, Kendrell tried explaining.

" Dad, it's not how it seems. It's just that..."

" Oh Son! How have you been? So What's the occasion? You know you barely call. " Constance exclaimed.

" Mom, there's no occasion. It's just that I've been busy lately and you know I lost my job so I've been busy applying at different firms and I there's also my mini project. I recently applied for a job at Ramsey and Sons and I got enlisted for the Interview b..."

" Oh my! Congratulations Son! I'm sure you will make it! Or have you already? is that the reason you called? did y..."

" Hon, why don't you let him finish." Waylon advised.

" Thanks Dad. " Kendrell said.

" What? Thanks Dad? Really Ken? I listened to you and helped pique your dad's interest but now you're thanking him? I miss Claire at times like this. You guys should continue teaming up. Wait till Claire is back from school. Hmph" Constance said with a scowl. Waylon and Kendrell couldn't help but chuckle at Constance's childishness.

" What? You both think it's funny?"

Abruptly, Waylon pursed his lips together frowned at his phone, as though he was frowning at Kendrell. While Kendrell muted the call so he could laugh.

" Sorry boss." Kendrell said after he unmuted the call and had laughed to his heart content.

" Sorry my queen." Waylon said.

" Fine. Go ahead Kendrell." Constance said.

" Where was I?" he asked.

" You said you were enlisted for an interview at Ramsey and Sons. So, Did you get the job?" Constance asked.

" No, I didn't. Maybe I would've but an interviewer ruined my chances. "

" What? How? " Constance asked while she and Waylon exchanged glances.

Kendrell recounted everything to them, almost word for word, especially his exchange with Gloria.

" What?!" Constance exclaimed after Kendrell finished.

" And what is her n..." Before Waylon could complete the question, a customer knocked on the glass at the checkout.

Waylon and Constance had a Food store they ran together. It was standard or at medium scale. They weren't 'poor' or 'middle class' either. But Kendrell was the independent type. So whatever wealth his parents had, would not really reflect on him.

" Let me handle that. " Waylon said because he knew how curious Constance could get. They had two staff, but they were attending to other customers.

" Oh my dear Son. Why did you pay heed to whatever she was saying? It's obvious she was trying to get on your nerves." Constance said with sadness evident in her voice.

" Regardless mom. It's obvious I wouldn't have gotten the Job either. She was hell bent on making me lose my slot. It was obvious she had the other interviewers at tip of her fingers. So even if I did get the job, It wouldn't have lasted for a week I assure mom, because I can't stand someone like her. Especially when family is involved." Kendrell said.

Constance felt bad, but also proud of the Kendrell she had Waylon had raised.

" Oh my boy."

" It's okay Mom. They're not the only slot. Besides, I don't plan on working for someone all my life. Maybe this is a sign that I have to carve a niché for myself. This is the third try mom. Can you believe that?"

" Of course I can. You always keep us updated, especially since we do the calling."

" I'm sorry about that mom." Kendrell said.

" But honey, what is the name of that witch?"

" Gloria. Gloria Adkins. " Kendrell said.

All of sudden, Constance's line went Silent.

" Hello? Hello mom. Mom are you there? " Kendrell said as he was starting to get worried over the sudden silence.

Waylon who had returned was caught off guard seeing the look on Constance's face.

" Is everything okay sweetheart?" he asked with creases on his forehead.

" Dad, what's going on? Is everything okay?"

" I don't know son. What did you tell your mom? Sweetie what happened? " Waylon asked confused.

" Gloria. It's Gloria. That witch is responsible for it! Why did she have to rub her frustration on our boy! What in the world is wrong with that woman! I feel like ripping her apart!"

" Calm down hon. You're creating a scene." Waylon said as he tried to calm her down. Some customers and two of their workers stopped to look at Constance, whose face had lost color because of rage.

" You don't understand how I feel, do you?" Constance asked.

" Mom please you have to calm down. There's nothing we can do now." Kendrell said. He knew that for now, all that he and his father needed to do was calm his mother down. He knew how his mother could get, especially when someone stepped on him or his sister. He remembered vividly how she started becoming protective when he turned 15.

" Of course there's something we can d..." Constance paused midway realizing her mistake as she and Waylon exchanged glances.

For a moment, there was a dark indescribable look that reflected on both of their faces, enough to scare anyone. But it disappeared as soon as it came.

Then Constance looked away.

" Just take it easy mom. Please. For me. Okay?"

" But neither you nor your dad can stop me from scratching her eyes out if I ever cross paths with her." Constance said through her gritted teeth.

" Just calm down hon. "Waylon said patting her back.

Seeing that Constance had relaxed a little, he decided to ask the question that prompted him to call them.

" Dad? Who is She? And What's your history with her?"

Heaving a huge sigh, and sweeping his hair backwards, Waylon began narrating.

* * * * * Planora * * * * *

Jenna managed to get her boss' permission after telling a really good lie.

She happily drove to the hospital. She had been living alone for two years after her ex friend, Samantha had left. They rented the apartment together. They used to live together as college roomies and best friends, till Samantha 'snatched' her boyfriend, Tony by making her look like a bad person so he could despise her and have a reason to split up. Looking back, Jenna couldn't care less, she thought as she scoffed.

Now that Morticia was going to come live with her, she believed she would take the emptiness and loneliness away, at least that was what she hoped for even as she would still spend time in knowing Morticia.

Her late grandmother used to tell her that false attitude only lasts two weeks. And so far, Sam and Tony were the only ones who proved that theory wrong, as far as she was concerned.

Jenna didn't know if she could trust Morticia as a very close friend, but she was not going to think about it or look forward to it either.

Just as she was driving while minding her own business, a car suddenly bumped into hers!

" Who the heck is that!" Jenna exclaimed as she parked on a safe spot and got down like the speed of light.

The driver had also slowed down, but before he could step out, Jenna was already at the side of his car, furiously knocking on the tinted glass.

" Hey! You better come down! " Jenna said as she tried not to attract passerbys.

But:

* No response *

" Hey! Didn't you hear me? If you think you're some mafia boss or some billionaire or business tycoon, why don't you just step out and face me!! " Jenna exclaimed, this time her voice louder than before.

* No response *

Laughing out of frustration, she said;

" Just you wait till I go get a stone and break the stupid glass that you couldn't wind down."

Staying true to her words, she went about looking for a stone, to at least scare the asshole, she thought with a clenched jaw.

Walking 10 Steps away, she found a pebble. But two steps away from the car, she saw a bigger stone and scoffed.

" Why didn't I see you earlier." She said.

She bent to pick it, but raising her head up, she saw a man, 5 foot '9 inches tall, since he was '4 inches taller than her, she suspected. He was wearing a white colored sleeve shirt and a black trouser, with his legs crossed as he relaxed on his car. He was none other than, Doctor Collins, her 'crush'.

' Dear Earth, would you mind opening up and swallowing me? You wouldn't right? So what are you waiting for?!' Jenna thought, no, screamed inwardly.

" Nice to meet you again miss. " He said with a smirk as he saw the look on her face.

But feisty miss Jenna didn't like smirks directed at her, so she quickly lectured herself.

' Since Earth won't swallow me, I should face this jerk. Yes, he is a jerk. He bumped into my car.' she thought before clearing her throat.

" Yes. But I don't think you'd be saying the same thing by end of the day, when you fix the tail lights of my car! " Jenna said just as she would to any random person, which for a moment, surprised Collins.

' She's crazy after all. ' he thought inwardly.

" Why didn't you step down earlier? Huh?"

" I couldn't because if I had opened my car door, it would've hit you. And hitting people doors on the face, is not my thing, neither is obstructing people. " he said with a smirk. Again, pissing Jenna off.

But what he didn't know was that Jenna was the wrong person to mess with.

" Well I agree." She smirked before she continued,

" But the thing is you wouldn't have slammed it on my face, you would have slammed it on my boobs." She said cupping them.

While Collins struggled to breathe as the blood rushed to his face rapidly, a few passerbys could barely take their eyes of the lady who was cupping her boobs with her hands in public.

'' What could have led to her holding her boobs up in front of the young man more so, in public'' they whispered amongst themselves. A young boy who forgot he existed because of Jenna's show,...

BAM!

banged his head on a pole!

Looking at the whole drama and still holding her boobs, Jenna turned to Collins who was already stiff and she smiled.

" It seems like not all of us has the ability to cause stare and stops and some... banging, even without going close." Jenna said with a smirk.

At this point, Collins had forgotten how to breathe.

Like, why the hell did he close from work today? Why did he have to take the call? How and why did it have to be this lady? Why did he even exist today?!

Swallowing a huge lump, he managed to speak.

" Well it...it wasn't my fault. I didn't want t..to hit you. But you... you ke.. kept Knocking and I found that funny, so I wa...was la laughing. Then you st, you, you umm, started ranting and before I could umm, bring my self to to to, before I could compose myself, you threatened to break... break the umm glass. But when you left, was when I was able to open the door. But I saw you searching for something on the floor and then you bent to pick it, so I was ummmm, curious. That was when I stepped out." Collins managed to say.

" What a narration! Wow wow! Bravo!. But first, you jumped from 'Well it...it wasn't my fault. I didn't want t..to hit you' to 'But you... you ke.. kept Knocking' poor narration dude. You could've done better. Secondly and most importantly, I didn't ask you to explain yourself, or did I?" Jenna asked with a mocker smile.

' Thanks Earth, for not heeding to my request. ' Jenna thought with gratitude.

" Cou, can you, can you umm put your hands down?" Collins said.

" Oh, my bad. " Jenna said.

" Thank, thank you"

" Don't thank me yet, doc. I can still create a scene, if you don't comply. And you know I don't even have to raise my voice. " She said with a smirk.

That was when Collins turned to look at the tail lights on the car. Only the left one was slightly brushed. He knew Jenna wasn't letting him off, especially since he annoyed her by not stepping down earlier. But did he want anything to do with this crazy Lady? Of course not! It's not like he wanted to suffer stress stroke.

" So how much will this cost?" Collins asked.

" Well, I'll take 10 thousand dollars."

Terror!

" Ten what? Wh... how? what for? how does it..?"

Seeing the look on his face, Jenna couldn't help but laugh. She wasn't really going to let him repair it nor was she going to let him pay for damages. She wasn't that kind of person. She believed it could happen to anyone. She just wanted apologies first, for bumping into her, because that was definitely going to cost her some money, but most importantly, for snubbing her.

" Oh, doc doc. Look, I would've loved to push this further, cause I'd love me some entertainment, but, I don't have all the time. I was on my way to pick my friend. I'm surprised you're driving on this lane. Anyways, I don't really want your money, and besides, who wants to hang see you next time anyways." Jenna said with a shrug which weakened Collins.

' How can she say that?' he thought, somehow, feeling crestfallen. He knew he said he didn't want to hang out with her, but hearing it from her now, he didn't feel elated at all.

" So what do you want? " he asked.

" An apology. You know are apologizing for. I don't need to tell you." she said, as she relaxed on his car and crossed her legs like he did previously. So much for not wanting drama.

" I'm sorry. I'm sorry for the damages and I'm sorry for snubbing you too. Ok?" Collins said, in hopes of making light of the situation.

" Good. Byeeeee" She said wiggling her brows again as she stood straight and walked towards her car without a care. That made Collins sigh in relief as he smiled a Little.

After she zoomed off, he found himself smiling. What a really crazy girl! he thought to himself as he entered the car and drove off.

" Oh my days! You really did that Jenna?! Didn't you feel shy or something? You were in public for crying out loud! " Morticia exclaimed.

" It was worth it. You needed to see terror written on his face! " Jenna said with a grin, while Morticia held her hand to her mouth in fits of girlish giggles.

'' I can't believe we're making fun of your crush"

" Naa! He isn't. He's just, you know, cute. You know the kind of admiration you have towards cute guys. That was just it." Jenna answered.

" Hmmmm. Okay."

" So, are you ready to go?" Jenna asked.

" Very ready. I'm sick of lying here all day and night. And it's all thanks you that I'm heading somewhere. Tha..."

" Shhhhhhh. Enough talking. I brought these clothes for you. I hope it fits. Go change." Jenna said.

" Ok. Thanks a lot" Morticia said as she left for the rest room.

She had bought a Yellow Cotton tee and a Black fitted Knee-length High-waist skirt. She didn't really want to take the leap on buying trousers that wouldn't fit. Morticia seldom stood up when she was around.

" Look who we have here. " Jenna said, as Morticia smiled.

" It looks okay. And I'm very comfy too. Thank you Jenny"

It was the first time Morticia had nicknamed Jenna.

" Now let's go, shall we?"
