Delaney flinched at Merikh's tone and her lips thinned. Gabriel had stopped whatever he was doing and everyone's attention was now on Merikh. Azalea was too afraid to say anything and Gabriel cared very little to explain. Delaney was in no place to explain either because she didn't even understand what he was angry about.
Without another word, Merikh picked a burning candle from a candle stand and burnt the book till there was nothing but ashes. Delaney just stared in bewilderment as he waited for every single piece of paper to burn.
Then under everyone's gaze, he stormed out of the room, slamming the front door as he left. Delaney flinched again and Azalea grimaced. Gabriel who seemed to be the only one unaffected by all this just massaged his temples, exhaling deeply.
Silence followed after Merikh's outburst and the only sound in the room was the perusing of papers as Gabriel resumed his work.
