Chapter 28 - Ch 27. Third Count; Vampire

Rosanna's P. O. V:

"WAKE. UP!!!"

I heard a wretched scream the moment I opened my eyes.

With a deadly glare, I beheaded the culprit in my imagination. Purring in satisfaction at the spilled blood of the damned creature.

A beautiful sight to avenge the vast amount of injustice in waking an exhausted sleeping person up.

"Finally! My goodness, you sleep like a corpse!"

And Karissa stormed out the room, leaving an amused Elan who sat on the chair adjacent my bed.

Why is he here again?

I stared at Elan silently, before moving my gaze to the half opened door.

I sighed.

Maybe I should take some time to apologize to Karissa.

Though it's not my fault- and it's not hers either, but as a mature kid, I have to stand up for the world who caused this.

I saw a genuine smile on Elan's face for the first time since I met him. It really gave his face a glow.

I guess the earlier comedy acts brought real laughter to him.

And it all started a few minutes ago.

.

"Wake up."

A distinctive voice told me.

Horribly shattering my beautiful dream where I became Empress Chula. The mighty Queen of Poniesians.

"Ion wanna." I grumbled in dissatisfaction.

Shuffling deep within the comfortable duvet and burying my head further underneath the pillow.

I'm one of those highly intelligent few that uses a pillow for the exact opposite thing.

"It's after 12, who's gonna take care of your funeral if you sleep yourself to death?"

I simply ignored the pest.

"For f*ck's sake, get up!"

My duvet was ripped off my body.

Bloody b!tch.

Hissing like a cat in water, I withheld the urge to release a string of curses but focused more on getting back to a comfortable sleep.

"Brunch is ready. You're hungry, yes?"

The voice became more patient and caring. Too bad it didn't make a difference.

"Yeah, go stuff your mouth." I mumbled and feigned sleep, adjusting my position to lie on my stomach with legs spread wide.

"Really, get. up." The person said. I assume her patience has reached its limits. Such an impatient fellow, I clicked my tongue.

I ignored the troublesome pest once more, keeping a num. Since you couldn't read the loud message, listen to the silent one.

But then Karissa decided my silence did not fit her patience. Gripping unto my leg, the old shrew attempted to drag me out of bed.

But I persisted, holding the headboard and kicking at her hand.

Is this necessary?!?! Is this how you treat a guest?! Or a fellow hu- stranger?!

"Let go, crazy hag!" I roared.

"NO." Karissa responded with even more force.

Back and forth it went, a tug of war on bed but Karissa was afraid to leave a dent on my body.

Patiently, Karissa controlled most of her strength till it felt like that of a normal human's.

But her restraint didn't make it easy. Every act was a struggle against her persistent pulling.

So we were tied for minutes on end. Kicking, cursing and me whining.

Yes, call me dramatic. But no one isn't dramatic when they don't have enough sleep. Or a good sleep, as a matter of fact.

So how dare Karissa deprive me of even this small rest?! Does she think the peaceful days are easy to have?!

Who dragged who's hair, I don't know. But I do know the hair tugs were mostly done in a 'kinky' way because Karissa was scared to hurt me. And I just didn't have the strength to pose a threat to her.

It was confusing but somehow Karissa joined me on the bed, trying to drag me off and me clinging to her and the bed like a koala.

I found myself on top her with my legs wrapped around her waist in a tight grip.

While my two hands held the headboard with strength enough to turn my knuckles pale and veiny.

"F*cking b!tch, how are you so stubborn?! Just get the f*ck out here and I won't disturb you!"

Her outstrectched hand held my neck but of course, she couldn't hurt me.

It was an innate feeling that made me know it was the b**m kind of grip.

Restricted but breathable. But of course, I have no experience. And today is no exception.

I stayed still. Raised a brow up with a mocking smile, emphasizing my stance and immaturity.

But suddenly, Karissa grabbed my waist with strength and pushed me underneath her.

This is too ambiguous, ah! Control yourself, wolfy!

I glared at her and laid still on the bed in a reverse position, contrary to my earlier dominance.

For all I know, I'm not leaving this room- yet, at least.

And Karissa should just accept that fact. Or we might as well stay on this bed till dusk.

A low cat whistle sounded and Elan walked through the door with a mischievous expression. A grin on his face as he wiggled his brows.

Why is everyone disturbing me? And isn't this room restricted? Can anyone walk through now? Give me peace, da*nit!

"So this is how it is, eh?" Elan asked, taking a seat without my permission.

I rolled my eyes in annoyance, scrunching my face up as I replied.

"No."

It was a firm answer. Nudging Karissa off who had an equally disgusted expression.

I laid sideways on the bed, turning my back to the strangers. And putting my pillow in-between my legs in an attempt to sleep and ignore the duo.

And I remained glad that Karissa's attention was focused on glowering at Elan.

I'm tired. Extremely exhausted. But it's not all physical.

Sure, I still feel drowsy even with all that rest, but in reality, I'm drained mentally.

That's the important factor; my desire to sleep my weariness off. My brain and heart has gone through a series of once in a lifetime functioning.

And nothing is as appealing and motivating as this bed.

So I closed my eyes back and Karissa released a faint sigh, hovering above my body with significant weirdness.

I opened one eye to survey but was caught immediately so I closed my eye quickly. Ignoring the red head's glare.

"Just let her be for a bit."

A beautiful voice said, and I sunk back into peace without difficulty. Unrelated to the person who just had an energetic fight with Karissa.

Who's Karissa? Who's Elan? What's Lunch? The bed is my beloved.

Then I slept for a short period of time before I got disturbed again.

But at least I feel better now.

.

"Lord Athanasius assigned me and Karissa to take care of you during your weekends. And ensure you're well prepared for the classes to come.

So Karissa and I are your assigned tutors and babysitters from now on." Elan said, crossing his legs with a judgemental look.

"Okay?"

I didn't really understand what Elan was saying but at this point, I don't even know whether I have an option to say yes or no.

Elan wasn't even asking a question, was he? He was relaying a suspicious message to me.

"What will you do for me?" I asked, propping my head up with my hand.

Hoping to get a clearer meaning of what he just told me.

"Food, clothing, equipments, education and training." He said.

Okay, vague but... Understandable?

"Oh wow." My tone was filled with dryness. My energy level at an all time low and without spares for emotions.

"Yes wow. At this point, I'm more affirmed you're Lord's little pet."

"Your opinion was unnecessary but okay."

I have a bad impression of most of the people in this house. The mean attitude probably rubbed on everyone during their stay.

"I'll take my leave," Elan stood up, flashing his usual smile.

"In a few minutes, the maids will be here with your food. Be sure to clean up and meet me downstairs."

"Mm."

"Good." He exited the room.

Another b!tch out the door, hurray!

.

I soaked in the warm bubble bath, recalling the events from yesterday.

"Konah." I whispered. Staring up at the hazy gold light. Thoughts swirling in my head.

'Yes, Master?'

"...When... you unlocked [OverLord], why was my vitality consumed? And, why was that skill activated rather than the other ones I used unconsciously?"

It was quite baffling that a skill had to consume my life force- no joke here, that's deadly.

And why did that specific skill require such initiation? On my request and not by instinct.

Konah replied.

'Access to a higher level skill without a good medium requires a certain price an individual must pay.

Your body could not withstand such skill so drawing strength from your life force made up for it's bare usage.

And, when a battle condition is simulated in the host's mind, the System gives access to low level skills at low power output.

But in a condition where the system evaluates the battle situation as grave, forced output of higher level skill is initiated'.

"So that's how it is..." I muttered.

Looks like I still have a long way to go in discovering my skills, having a suitable body to use them and even gaining access to them.

Stating of which, I need to improve my Talents. Level three in three levels before the end of a month? I'd have to practice everyday then.

I exited the bathroom with my towel wrapped around me and found Kairos sitting on a chair in my room, flipping a magazine.

Is this a thing now? To unilaterally come into my room when I'm taking a bath?

"Can I help you?" I asked, calmly walking to my closet to get a robe.

I'm not as flustered as the first time but I still was not comfortable having a conversation with a predator with little clothing.

Kairos gazed up at me with a business smile.

"I need your blood."

I felt like a livestock.

"Its not been up to a week- why are you asking for more so soon?" Holding the robe in my hand, I crossed my arms. Giving a mean stare in return.

"I thought it'd last a week but I was wrong."

"Well this can't work that way! I'd die up like a shriveled grass before the end of this month."

Bullsh!t demands. What am I? A blood producing machine that give out sweet blood candies?

"You don't have a choice," Kairos said lazily, leaning backwards on the chair and closing his eyes with a serene expression.

"But to avoid my frequent greetings, a doctor specified we'd need constant physical contact. Either that or this. I can always provide you with Blood Elixirs so you're safe from dying." He continued, before opening his eyes and I saw two identical red glow.

It was a split second before he closed them again giving a slight smile.

I can confirm it's normal to not understand what he thinks.

"When will this end?" I sighed.

"Six to Nine months."

"That's a lot."

A young maiden like myself might grow feelings if this whole act continues. Realistically stating.

"...After this, we have preparations to make for the Apocalypse Descent. Considering your special status, your presence might be beneficial in reducing the death rate during that time."

I nodded stiffly, before walking into the bathroom to change to my robe.

Coming out, I saw Kairos breathing visibly in a slow, shallow manner like a hibernating beast.

His mere presence seemed to hold a kind of dangerous aura with warning red lights flashing above.

I walked hesitantly towards Kairos and when I reached close towards him, Kairos gripped my hand and gave a 'light' tug that had me stumbling over.

Indeed I'm a livestock.

Prepared for my fall, Kairos embraced me and set me on his laps. My heart beating as though it had gained wings and was eager to fly out of the confines of my ribcage.

He opened his eyes, red shiny irises reflecting my image in them.

I gulped.

Feeling a gust of chill air surrounding my neck, following Kairos' action of swiftly removing my collar and flinging it to goodness knows where.

Neck biting, third count; begin.
