Rosanna's P. O. V:
His fangs sunk into my neck and Kairos released a low gutteral sound. Which made me jerk a bit in surprise- wrong move, the pain of strong ripping flesh erased the pleasure I was feeling.
"Hiss!" I hissed out in pain and dug my fingers into his back. Feeling half of my life fade.
But that didn't stop Kairos from feeding on me. I wondered if he'd ignored my pain or lost himself in the sensations.
"S-stop!" I released a low moan when I realized Kairos wasn't ending anytime soon.
But the rate at which I grew weak was frightening. And the sticky, burning pain on my neck had me scared sh*tless.
I attempted to hit his back with my clenched fist but before I acted, I lost the strength to resist.
Moments passed by and my vision blackened, I felt my body slack on his grip with a ripping pain engulfing my neck area.
And awfully, I became aware I might really die at this point. In such a way.
Just like this? Without any clue whatsoever?
F*cking sh!tty.
I won't see Mama-
A tear slipped and the waterfalls were unleashed while I choked in a weak sob.
My head was pounding as though they'd slammed a hammer on it while I laid under the scorching sun in dehydration.
It was just so horrible. And I could not raise a finger but watch my life drain away.
Why...?
No... Please!
"Ugh." Kairos groaned and pulled away, panting on my neck. And I think my life was like that of a cockroach's. Great tenacity, Jael.
I could not tell what was happening nor could I tell what Kairos was doing. After that, I just felt... weak to the core.
A sigh of relief was stuck in my throat as I soon slipped off into the abyss.
.
"The next time you bring this poor girl to me, I'm telling your mom, Berry!
That, you've been... abusing a young flower with your... Needs. Such a sad little girl. She seems normal but unfortunately she's stuck with you. Try not to endanger everything around you, Kairos."
Can someone please tell that person to stop talking? Is that a voice or a weapon?
Is my health a joke? Your voice is killing me!
"You see, it's like a flower placed on dung. There's just something wrong with this equation-"
"Enough."
"Enough." The voice repeated.
"I get your point Doctor Osborne, but can you genuinely admit that any girl would be unfortunate if they were my mate?"
A little pause came in before the voice, 'Berry' spoke again. "Actually-"
"Good self- awareness." The 'Doctor Osborne' said.
"I'm glad you know that Rael is bloodthirsty, selfcentered, sh!tty and would absolutely suck anyone dry-"
Was that a growl?
"-yes, and, your loyal enemies would ensure they're updated on how to make your life miserable. Try to keep this girl out of the storm, would you?"
"She's already in it, Osborne. We're merely dancing to the winds. If she's lucky, she'll come out alive. If she's not, you can't hold me accountable. Go f*ck fate up."
Now, doesn't this seem like a discussion concerning me? Who's this Osborne and Berry? Kairos? Who?
What...
I opened my eyes and stared blankly at the white ceiling. Blinking rapidly in an attempt to adjust my vision to the blinding light.
I reached out slowly to touch my neck, there I felt the collar back on with bandages underneath, covering my skin.
My throat was dry. And it's time I demand for water. Too tired to continue probing for information in feigned unconsciousness.
"Water..." My hoarse voice came out, fitting the 'ideal' patient voice like I heard in the movies.
But I just want to admire how attractive that sound was. It can't be I'm innately amazing at everything? Or I just have a unique taste? It's a wonder.
"What are you standing there for? Go get the water, damnit! You call yourself a prince-"
"That is completely unrelated, Osborne."
Directing my stare from the ceiling, I found it difficult to twist my neck- owing to the pain that coursed through my wound.
So I simply watched from the corner of my eyes. I saw Kairos coming over with a glass of water.
Then by the further left of the labroom, an old man with long white beards and hair stood. With warm looking asian features.
He should be Doctor Osborne. A familiar name...
Kairos walked to my bed, staring down at me with a neutral expression as he gently, extremely gently, propped my head up and fed me water like he's exercised this scene for years.
The lukewarm liquid went down my throat and along with it came a chilling sensation when it reached my stomach.
Pushing my head backwards, I turned my face away as I was full. The liquid- I don't know if it water anymore, spilled slighly on my lips but Kairos quickly retreated in obedience.
His hand holding my head gently lowered it on the pillow. After which he walked away and dropped the half empty glass cup.
Doctor Osborne came up to me with a smile, holding a notepad in his hands.
"Hello dear, how are you doing?" He asked with a semi-annoying voice upon reaching my bed.
Is it the accent? Or I'm naturally prejudiced because of my voice-con bias?
"Not so good, thank you."
"Expected." He smacked his lips, furiously writing some things on his notepad.
"Berry!" He screamed.
"What?" Kairos irritated voice answered back.
"I hope you're listening." Doctor Osborne said, not lifting an eye in regards to Kairos' piercing look.
"Even if I didn't want to, your voice is too annoying to ignore."
Ah, it's not just me.
"And, my senses are obviously high."
True.
"Huh." Doctor Osborne raised a brow, staring intently at whatever he was writing.
"So, do you two lawfully matched pair, decide to go on dangerous trials of blood mediation or rather, physical mediation?"
I was stunned.
"Physical." Kairos' fast response came.
Blood Mediation or physical? That... He punch me, I punch him or... Smooches?
"...To... To what... Ends?" Like, physical in what way?
"Anything body contact. Any exception you 'two' reach on. Noted?"
Emphasizing the 'two', Doctor Osborne stared at Kairos with an 'all-knowing' look.
Bossy Kairos is notorious.
Kairos scoffed, but otherwise remained quiet, flipping a long document in his hand as he leaned on the wall.
Hey, my throat doesn't hurt as much!
"Great! And Rosanna?" The old man faced me.
"...Yes?" I shrunk my head deeper into the pillow.
"Run as fast as you can to the emergency bunkers- no, that won't work, just come find me during the blood moon. Lest Berry does some... Illegal things."
The Blood moon- oh, yes! Berserk day!
"H-how may I find you?" I stuttered in panic. Remembering the details I almost forgot.
"That's unnecessary. I'll deliver you to him before the date." Kairos said.
Ignoring Kairos' words, I stared hopefully at Doctor Osborne.
Life is never sure like Kairos and this old man seems like he's a nice supporter of innocent people such as myself.
But... Suddenly I can't feel safe anymore.
Rule number one Gen Z world: Trust no one, watch your back- don't look back! Evident chaos and confusion in human association.
No one is genuinely nice without a reason. There must be something and I don't know what Doctor Osborne's base line for 'nice' is.
Doctor Osborne... He had little to no presence in the book and although all his scenes were neutral and 'good', this, is a world more openly dangerous than Earth.
I bet my face changed expressions a few times because the old man was looking at me weirdly.
"...You okay up there?"
Not sure. But,
"I'm hungry."
"Ah."
Yes.
The old man went out with giddy footsteps and I assume he's going to get food.
If he isn't, I'll throw a tantrum- kidding, I'll cry, grow displeased and beg.
"Physical mediation," Kairos said, bringing my attention to him.
"..."
Yeah, I had nothing to say. Grudge count +1=6.
Mated me. +1
Erased Aniysa's memory half-baked. +1
Hellish training MST Classes. +2
Simulation Class. +1
Recent near death experience. +1
"...Choosing comfort might pertain your death if I lose control at any moment. It's a better deal to keep Rael constantly mediated and I have methods you might not agree on. But still, I'd rather not show the consequences of a failed control."
Yup. Grudge count. +1=7.
Noticing my silence, Kairos continued.
"If kisses and s*x are excluded, we'd need a much longer period of body contact."
Naiyah or Natalie, let me bet. Who'd kill me first?
Hmmm, I bet the Collar it'd be Naiyah unexpectedly. Then Natalie would revive me and torture me before murdering me.
But there's a chance she might not wait for Naiyah to take her fill of me and strike first.
I'm betting... My life on the latter. I wonder, what will it be?
Will I... Receive a main character halo and survive? Or not?
"We'd sleep together everyday." Kairos said.
Huh? Sleep together- what?
...Ohhh. Sleeping in each other's presence. My, I won't be having nightmares then. Because it'd be reality.
Wonderful, wonderful.
Brain cell B: What do you think of this situation, President?
Brain cell A: I suggest every individual of this nation prepares their perfect caskets in regards to their future deaths.
Brain cell C: What about the military force?! Can't we stop this?!
Brain cell A: Can the military stop an incoming astronaut?
Brain cell D: And our scientists?! Where are they?!
Brain cell A: We're art students...
*Insert BBC intro music*
Bain cell B: That's it folks! News from the president: design your caskets according to your aesthetics. More from citizen news- toddler just-
I hesitated before speaking, pushing all unnecessary thoughts off the window.
"I hope your teammates do not learn of this." I said.
"Some certain people might accidentally drop me off the roof. I'm not saying- but I'm admitting, your fanbase already thinks of me as a sl*t. Try not to add the names, eh?"
"They wouldn't dare." Kairos smiled.
The day his smile represents an actual smile will be the Apocalypse Descent.
I stayed silent. Giving Kairos a lifeless expression.
The pressure is real, life is no joke.
Ah... It seems pressure is no respecter of age, but a respecter of ignorance. Gone were the days where I could blissfully say I'm anticipating college.
"And Rosanna?" Kairos called.
"Yes?" I responded, gazing at the ceiling.
"Your 'isekai'- that's what they call it? Yes, your transmigrated identity is not as special as you think. Hundreds of people have been sent to this world to stop some certain... Things."
Before my shock could settle in, Kairos continued.
"Your presence is merely a backup plan and a directed butterfly effect-- however, you seem to be a beginner as you pose no significant threat."
Dude, wait, let me process this! I know I'm not a main character but what do you mean background character?
"Hey-"
Kairos interjected. "I would love to kill you very much. But Rael is a biased bastard who'll rather accidentally do it with 'his' hands."
In summary, I am not the only tdanskigrator and my position in Kairos' life is more awkward that I thought.
Should I be shocked? Believe him? Or no?
Sometimes my emotions ask me what to do than react appropriately. It's an odd thing.
It certainly was surprising but the surprise died down faster than I thought normal. And I didn't know what to feel.
Probably the aftereffects of too many surprises in one week.
"Then what do you plan to do to me?" I asked.
His royal highness Kairos, should properly explain what my purpose is. Now that I'm not special, needed or valuable. Ouch.
"Keep you. It's amazing to see Garvin spend a huge amount of faith and fortune to produce a fate of strong influence to me. But it's admirable you were deemed compatible and fitting in such a situation."
Aight, riddle man. You got me. I'm dumb. I know nothing.
"Is my life guaranteed?" Let's keep this simple, please.
"No." Kairos gently flipped the document and continued reading with a disinterested look.
At one point Kairos is an actor and it fits perfectly. And at another, he's genuine and it's unnatural.
What the f*ck is going on and what am I supposed to believe?
I'm not 'special', don't have a bargaining chip, too involved with Kairos and lack all the information.
I'm not just walking on thin ice, I'm hanging on a thread meters high and below me is hot lava.
It's absolutely maddening that Kairos' personality, attitude and reactions are all too abnormal to properly reach any conclusion.
Reading from a third person's point of view connotes the actions more than the inner voices.
And I guess I'm used to seeing Kairos' acts, not knowing the thoughts before an action.
Plus, this is a reincarnated version with experience AND knowledge from people who had also transmigrated.
What the h*ll?
Answers, anybody?
