Chapter 18 - Doom

This plan had been one of at the spur of the moment. The feeling of having your entire life and fate at the mercy of others was unbearable. As someone from earth, where freedom was everything along with his status as a great scientist who theorized a formula to cure cancer, he had his work stolen and had lost his incredible statues due to an unsanctioned and unauthorized experiment and human testing without the approval of the government.

As though losing his lisense as a scientist wasn't bad enough, he managed to fall in the hands of a dangerous cartel after producing Endofanicane-stasy to earn resources to continue his experiment. But instead, he caught the interest of a renowned cartel.

Ever since then, he had been a slave during the peak of his life for almost twenty years.

Twenty years of slavery which was about half his entire life, shifting from cartels to cartels like a lost puppy with no hopes of escaping, he could only endure looking for ways and opportunity to escape, sadly, all of his effort proved ineffective.

Luckily, there had been a gang war and he transmigrated here, in another world, giving him a new lease at life. He wasn't going to waste this chance, neither would he let himself be in a situation where his entire life and fate could be determined by some organization!

This is what brought into being his plan, no matter how much it cost him, he must escape. At first, the chances of an AV passing by the NCED's building was as low as 5 percent as there is a certain amount of respect the force provides to the outside world.

Now, assuming he had been correct and an Av truly did pass there, how certain was it that he would be able to accurately lacth onto the vehicle and not fall off due to miscalculation or a simple swirve from the AV?

How accurate was he to derermine how precisely he could perfectly latch onto the only external metal shield?

Strangely, his luck was on the high today.

Not only was an passing by, but he actually managed to accurately latch onto the air shuttle, grabbing him along with it.

"You, nor anyone, including the government would ever lay a hand on me!" Michal had been waiting more than several decades just had to say this!

Roughly ten minutes later, the AV started to decelerate. There was a parking port a few distance from the NCPD. Michael didn't wait from the Av to reach the parking lot and dropped once the car was at a reasonable distance to the ground. It turned out the AV was a commercial vehicle going on tour around the New city to admire its beauty.

This wasn't any of Michael's that concern. He was different from those uptown folks. They spend their entire life working little and enjoying for the rest of it while he would need to work 24/7 to survive.

Biting his lips to get rid of the dizzy sensation he was feeling, he saw that he was out in the open, on the street.

Gazing at side, an holographic video played, displaying the words "Campton District " boldly.

"A few streets away from Rust Neon district." Michael gazed upwards at the corners of the building, he noticed several cameras installed at various buildings and he could be easily tracked by the Enforcers. "I need to get out of here and find a place to lay low."

Michael muttered with glinted eyes, holding his broken arm as he limped, mixing in and blending in with the crowd. It was the only way he could avoid detection from the facial recognition system.

The crowds were as much as an ant colony and almost everyone was immersed in their AR, too busy to notice a youth covered in blood, rags and deep life-threatening injuries, held his arms as he walked.

He wandered for more than 20 minutes, slapping and biting himself awake the moment he was about to collapse. He knew how serious his injuries were and couldn't comprehend just how he was still alive but that wasn't the main issue right now.

Sighting an AI hotel, Michael's eyes lit up. AI hotels are one of the most trustworthy. The only problem was that once they get a customer, they get too obsessed with them which is why most people don't dare visit one. Moreover, as long as one was a resident of the hotel, ones protection is guaranteed. It's the most loved for criminals.

But with his current condition, he couldn't be bothered to care. Just as he was about to walk out of the crowds, his eyes shifted five meters to the left and right of the hotels lobby. "Enforcers!"

Of course they would be here. The only shelter within a 5-mile radius, if he could think of it, they would definitely also think the same.

Narrowing his eyes, Michael retracted his gaze and continued to walk amongst the mass. He grabbed a particularly large dirty coat from a trash can, covering his head with the coat, he cut out from the crowds and walked into an alley with just two cameras installed.

He wasn't the only one there as there were about three homeless punks huddled in the corner their empty pupils indicating the activation of their brain-dance.

Michael walked deeper into the alley until he felt it was safe enough. His shoulder hit the wall and he groaned, slowing sliding to the ground with pain in his eyes.

His right arm had completely lost all feeling and he could feel that although the injuries on his back had stopped bleeding, he had already lost too much blood. It would be a bad idea to remove the embedded shrapnels. His priority was to fix his shoulder first and rest until he could recover a bit of juice to charge up his Neuro-interface.

Amidst his slowly plunging consciousness, he was jolted awake by the faint sounds of footstep ringing out from within the alleyway, slowing increasing in volume.

"It's true what they say, when pushed to the edge, even a beast surpasses its limits."

Michael's brain buzzed, recognizing the voice. 'How is he here!?'
