Two guards were standing by the side of the large iron gate, and they both expressionlessly opened the gate for them when they saw the carriage.
Unlike the outside, the inside was full of guards wandering around for any suspicious people, some maids were also walking around, all busy with one thing or the other.
The carriage stopped in front of the main hall, and Averil was the first one to get out as she entered the room.
The inside was filled with two rows of maids with their heads kept up straight.
"Mother!" Averil called out, walking towards the woman who was sitting on the luxurious chair that look like a throne, made of gold.
The maids bowed at Averil's presence, who was followed by Carissa and Lilith.
Lady Margaret was wearing a long sky-blue dress, the dress wrapped tightly around her, showing off her beautiful curves and her ample chest. Her long brown hair was tied with ornaments, cascading down her soldiers.
"Manners, Averil" Lady Margaret said, if Lilith hasn't seen the beauty of her own mother and also Estelle too, she would definitely be blown by Lady Margaret's beauty.
Averil pouted, but still change her walking speed as she walked towards her mother, sat on one of the smaller chairs beside her mother, and hug her arm.
"Mother, Averil is bullied today." She whines.
"Mother, I'm back with Lilith," Carissa said, bowing lightly to her mother as she also went to seat to the right of her mother, leaving Lilith standing.
Lady Margaret only waved gently at her before turning to her youngest daughter.
"Who bullied you, Avie?" She asked, caressing her daughter's cheek.
"The commoners, Mom! I'm sure you can't believe that right?"
"What?."
"Yes Mom, they pointed at me, insulting me, as in can you believe that?!"
"So you leave them to go on insulting you?." Lady Margaret finally asked, and this statement brought Averil to stomp her foot on the floor.
"Mom, Carissa said to leave them alone."
"Is that true, Carrie?." Lady Margaret turned to her other daughter.
"Mom... You can't believe what happen there..." Then Carissa started explaining what happened to her mother, how they ate, and how Lilith asked them to pay.
"Lilith, is that true?". Lady Margaret calmly asked.
She has thought that leaving the girl unpunished for a while will give her the brain but seems like that's not the case.
"Nope, Mother." Lilith smiled gracefully, offering a light bow.
Her smile was filled with arrogance and disdain, something she didn't notice.
Lady Margaret frowned, staring intently at Lilith, she felt that something was wrong with this damn girl.
"Then tell me what's wrong." Lady Margaret demanded.
Averil's lips curled into a smile, she was going to see how this cunt was going to defend herself.
Even Carissa can't control the faint smile on her lips.
"Mother, Averil ate with the commoners," Lilith said.
"So?" Everyone looks at her while Lilith continues with a smile.
"She didn't fear disease or germs. The commoners live in slums and dirty neighborhoods, cockroaches were a sign of decorations in their homes. The ingredient wasn't even substandard, yet, Averil ate from them." Lilith concluded, and Lady Margaret found herself nodding in support.
Carissa frowned when she saw the concern on Lilith's face, she even felt that Lilith asking her money earlier was an illusion, since when did this girl for goodness sake start lying like this?
"But still... Why do you ask us to compensate them?." Carissa quickly asked, and this caused her eyes to be directed at Lilith again.
Lilith smirks. "Carissa, even if the food is dirty but you still ate it, then no one cares if it was full of germs. In our circle, I believe that reputation matters the most, and that's especially for us, the kids from Duke Mansion. I knew that the princess's birthday is coming, if a prince were to choose a liking to you girls, what do you think will be the people's reaction when you are made known, they might even protest to the king that they didn't want you. The commoners were called that name because they're way more in number than us, a noble family can be exterminated for an offense, but a commoner can't because they are the pillars that support us, the nobles, without their presence, we will also be regarded as a commoner. King Luth IV married a commoner when he was a prince and that's how he was able to become the king, the commoners aren't even compared to our shoe, but their words carry more weight than ours."
Lilith paused to catch her breath and continue.
"If Carissa refuses to compensate them, then she will be labeled as a bully, vicious girl, and... stingy too. The commoners didn't fear death, in fact, some prays for it so they always say what they want. I ask for a gold coin from Carissa because I want to show her kindness to the people."
"Good." Lady Margaret nodded, after being dumbstruck for a moment.
Averil and Carissa were simply too shocked when they heard all what Lilith has said! How can this girl be so good at lying?
Of course, they didn't have any excuse to attack or to punish her anymore.
"Keep this up, Lilith, you're the oldest daughter of the Duke's mansion, make sure to continue to look after your sisters, they are still young."
"Sure, Mother." Lilith bowed, concealing the cold look that flashed by her purple eyes.
"So girls, Miss Angelina is coming to take your measurement, you must be the most beautiful at the princess's birthday." Lady Margaret announced, talking to her daughters.
"Wow Mom, you mean the goddess of fashion, Lady Angelina?! Wow, you're so good to us, Mother." Averil's eyes brightened with joy, pecking her mother on the cheek.
Even Carissa's face broke into a wide grin.
Who didn't know the young lady Angelina?
She was one of the king's concubines, but her fashion sense was simply otherworldly.
It was said that she would have been chosen as the queen if not that the current queen, Queen Elizabeth came from a rich family. But still, Lady Angelina was only third to the king.
