"Oh, you are here. Good. There is a separate cabinet there. You can use it to stuff your things. There are two separate futons there. The white one is mine, and the pink one is yours."
Hans subtly looks at Jane who shows a disgusted expression at the mention of pink. On Hans's part, it is on purpose. There is nothing much different to Jane since last time, except she is now sporting a luscious blonde wig.
"If you have questions, feel free to ask. Also, please don't do it if you don't mean it. I will be honest, your wig is annoying." And more so uncomfortable to wear. Hans has his fair share of being forced on joining drag shows thanks to his lady boss's punishment, and no way in hell the costumes are comfortable. The wig is especially horrendous.
"O-okay," Jane timidly answers while she removes the wig. "I will work hard!" She suddenly declares.
Hans continues on doing his thing, in writing his novel, and stuff. He thinks he is about to strike gold, and as the trend continues to rise, Hans feels that his time is about to come.
"Mr. Hans, I am done."
"Okay."
Hans succinctly replies to Jane's words. Hans focuses on his work with single-minded dedication. He truly loves writing, and in this world, he feels like his potential is being unlocked.
"Mr. Hans, since you are sponsoring me, I think I am going to train my magi abilities, so I will be out."
"No."
Again, another succinct reply.
Hans is very tempted to simply abuse Jane and force her to quit, and while his feelings on the matter are complicated, it is not enough justification for him to outrightly refuse to sponsor her.
To some extent, the fact that Jane's tragic background story in the novel happened is because of his own writing. If he is not such a sadistic author who is irrationally on the brink of getting out of control, something like that should not happen. Hans recalls Jane Loweigh doesn't really have a happy ending.
Bitter, but still committed to his own ideals, Hans decides to just be a little bit nicer to Jane.
"Listen here, Jane. I will allow you to practice your magic every 4:00 am to 6:00 am. This is what I expect of you. At 7:00 am, I must have my breakfast ready. At 9:00 am, you have to feed my cat. At 12:00 pm, my lunch. At 7:00 pm, my dinner. At 9:00 pm, my cat's dinner. You are only free to do as you like after you wash the dishes, clean the place free from dust, and feed me and my cat. Every Sunday, you will be washing my clothes, do you understand? Also, don't forget to wake me up at 7:00 am in the morning sharp… I hope breakfast will be ready at that time already."
"…"
Jane is speechless. Her schedule is too much. She starts doubting whether she really is a maid or just a servant. What kind of sponsor works their maid this much on trivial stuff? Should she not be focusing on her magical studies?
In Hans's defense, he actually has no plan of giving Jane free time on learning magic, so he is being kind, at least in his own opinion. Hans reflects on the many days he works as an extra hand to his lady boss from his old world.
Come to think of it, the itinerary he is giving Jane is the same itinerary he has always been running when he is but a humble writer for a web publishing company.
"That is all. I will give you this day as a free day so you can relax."
Jane finally deflates registering that every word that comes out of Hans's mouth must be the truth. However, instead of choosing to relax as her boss suggests, Jane takes it upon herself to work ASAP. She cleans up the place by picking up the trash littering everywhere.
Hans hears the clutter, and Jane's hard work while he remains dedicated to his laptop. Giving a subtle glance behind him, Hans realizes that Jane seems to be very adept at housework. 'Must be learned from the orphanage,' Hans deduce.
The next day comes, with Jane's wake-up call.
"Hey, you piece of shit, wake up."
"ZZZzzz…"
"I said wake up you monster who has no fucking conscience!"
"W-what? Who is the monster?"
"Ah~! Good morning good sir, I hope you have a nice dream, please let's eat breakfast."
Hans stands up and washes his face from the basin of water that Jane so kindly brings to him. He inwardly snickers at how fast Jane's tone changes. He appreciates Jane's effort though for her initiative to bring him a basin of water to clean his eye boogers and wake him up.
The two of them eat on the floor, with little plastic mats to offer sanitary protection. The flat is small, and there is not a table for them to eat, so they have to settle with it.
Jane starts eating in a measured manner thinking that Hans might look down on her if he sees her lacking any class of the sort, however, to her surprise, Hans seems to not care. It only takes about half a minute for Hans to finish gobbling the rice, bacon, and eggs from his plate.
"I am done, please clean up after you eat."
Hans's eating reminds Jane of her siblings and maybe herself which is weird considering that Hans should be a rich guy with him being capable of sponsorship. Her Aunt Carlos has guaranteed her of the matter. It is just that Jane finds Hans to be a very curious subject.
After speedily eating her portion of the meal, Jane proceeds to do some intense exercise just on the rooftop of the apartment lacking any other human presence. It is a good place to exercise both physically, mentally, and magically.
Exactly at 9:00 am, she then feeds Hans's Abyssinian cat the name 'Pussy'. Learning the cat's scandalous name, Jane admits to it that Hans must be a real pervert.
At 12:00, Jane prepares lunch, something easy to cook but rarely tastes bad which is fried chicken. Again, she starts hoping that it won't go bad and that Hans should not look down on her cooking skills. But nothing of the sort happened.
At 7:00 pm, Hans's dinner is a more challenging affair as Jane's cookbook in her head is quite lacking. In the end, she ends up cooking another fried chicken, and thanking her lucky stars, Hans seems to not mind it.
At 9:00 pm, Jane feeds the cat again. Hans is still awake at this point in time. To this, Jane decides to sleep already aware that she will need to wake up early.
Exactly at 4:00 am, she wakes up with the help of her mechanized internal clock derived from magic. Jane sees Hans who is sleeping sloppily on his own futon. Jane sighs and drapes the blanket on Hans where it should be.
