Chapter 28 - Magic Lessons

After getting the Love Potions, Hans immediately auctions them off online. It is not the same way how Hans sells off his first potion. The first Love Potion he manages to sell is from a four-day auction event. He doesn't want to wait that long for he is in a great hurry for money.

In half a day, Hans quickly has the money he needs to fund their activities— a whopping several million credits. Hans can sell it for a billion if it is not online, as Double Love Potions have a synergetic prize. Two Love Potions mean after all an already established 'partner' can drink it at the same time, and then resort to double cultivation which in the end can amplify the growth of any mage in existence easily past the 3rd stage. Even an archmage will go crazy for it.

What kind of cheat is it that allows you to get fun while getting stronger?

At the back of Hans's mind, he keeps on thinking of the nature of the sudden attack on City Z. If those are the work of Benevolence, Hans greatly fears its implications. Do they know him? Does his selling of Love Potion anything has to do with it?

Hans makes sure that there are no loose ends, so he is pretty sure that is not the case.

The paranoia is hateful, but instead of wasting his time thinking of useless things, he should just focus on teaching Jane.

In a mage training facility where all sides are metal, Hans is dutifully teaching Jane the ways of magic. He is renting it with a premium, and he will use its every damn worth in the duration of their training.

"You are already at first circle which is good. This must be the accumulated affection of your siblings, and Carlos. Treasure it. It means that they are a part of you now."

In front of Hans is Jan trying to accumulate magic in her hands.

"I will be teaching you magic. I will teach you the theory of we have time, but we don't, so we will skip a few steps. You can do it. Right? If you don't, that means that all your siblings' love amounts to you."

At Hans's provocation, the magical energy fluctuates violently in Jane's hands.

"No good. It has become more pronounced, but you are losing control. It is only gathering magic, but you are already failing this badly. Remember, the Geass is not just a regulator of magic, but also a tool for us to control them. Think of your Geass. Their magic traits lie dormant on the spiritual level."

Jane's control of the dark energy in her hands is slowly becoming calmer, but it is still erratic.

"Nice. This is progress. But you are still far from it. Real magic requires logic and imagination. But what allows all of this is always the Geass. Think of your Geass. Their attributes. The Keywords that connect to it. You have to learn these attributes, understand them from Keywords, and express them through magic."

"I… I… don't understand…"

Jane is gasping with labored breath as she lets go of the magic from her hands.

"You did bad."

Hans admonishes her badly, and Jane sulks at hearing this.

"I will not go easy on you, Jane. You wanted to be sponsored right?"

And now, her family is dead. She has more reasons to want to be sponsored, to be funded, and to be avenged. Hans is quite clear that it is her who wants to do the avenging. After all, she has been pretty vocal about it since Hans 'suggested' it which is kind of manipulative in a sense.

In the end, nothing really changes. In the original story, Jane has the same motivation until she dies to her last breath not knowing the target of her revenge. Ironically, the reason why she has to die is because the author has grown tired of writing about her.

Hans is such an irresponsible author.

"Look here."

Hans snaps his fingers and summons two kinds of magical energy with different colors namely blue and black.

"Everything a Geass has, have meanings… Even the color is an attribute. As I have told you, I have double Geass. The burning blue heart in my tongue, and a reversed crown in my right eye."

Hans emphasizes by pointing at his two Geasses and while at it, he spurs his two magic further. Enveloping his arms are blue magical energy to his left and black magical energy to his right.

"The meanings that hide from colors are deep and general. Only archmages can tap on the power of colors, and that is why people call them Color Mages in ancient times. Even now, people call them as such. The true Archwizard level after all has long become unattainable."

Jane raises her head and watches in awe as Hans displays his magical might.

"True Archwizard?" She asks, but Hans ignores the question and makes a casual deflection.

"We are getting off-topic. Do you see this magical energy in my arms? They are becoming visible because of the color. This is but a visual display, and has no magic to it. For there to be magic you must draw out the attributes from your Geass. Magic proficiency is divided into elementary, intermediate, and master. This is a technique. I am teaching you casting, so you don't have to bother with technique yet. The important bit here is that you draw the attributes and learn the Keyword."

As Hans narrates, his left hand burning with blue flames coalesces and shapes itself into a small sun so brightly divine.

"This is a fireball. One of the easiest magic to cast. You cannot cast a fireball because your Geass doesn't have the attribute of flames. I at least have the attribute of 'burning' as per the burning heart in my tongue. However, this is not the limitation of this fireball spell. You can animate it. Most often, mages eject it or shoot it. For me, I have the attribute of 'tongue', so I can flick it like a tongue."

Hans jerks his wrist, and the fireball changes shape. "Flametongue." And with Hans's magic word, he unleashes the tongue of flames on the metal floor razing it to scorch black. The ferocity of the flames almost reaches Jane who is just opposite Hans.

Jane is sweating with fear as the heat quickly gets to her. Everywhere her eyes land, there are only flames.

"The mention of 'Flametongue' is not necessary, but it does increase magic potency. It is because a 'spell name' is an assertion to the world. Moreover, I have a tongue-based Geass which makes magic casting for me easier this way. There are plenty of ways to cast magic like for example, gestures." Hans waves his left hand in a seemingly random gesture and the flames vanish at once. However, it is not really random, as Jane realizes there is a pattern to it.

"What did you do?"

"I drew the insignia of flames, and the runes denouncing the fire spirit Ifrit. It is a mysticism knowledge you will come across in the Academy of Magic. Do you understand now? If you want revenge, you will want power."

"And the Academy of Magic has it?"

"Yes."

Hans's right arm is still glowing with dark energy reminiscent of Jane's magic.

"Now, this might serve as inspiration to you because it shares the same color as your magic, but I am not really sure. For me, my second Geass is quite difficult to interpret. In fact, I only have one magic spell under this Geass."

Hans's magic from his right hand slithers from his arms to his right eye.

"Dethronement."

A single word.

Jane blacks out immediately after.
