Chapter 7 - The struggle.

Liam POV

"One shot!"

As I yelled out these words, I let go of the elemental arrow. It was moving at a speed I considered good, but I knew I needed more than this if I wished to come out victorious.

I had all these thoughts in microseconds, rotating my body to get a better view of Maria who drew in the energy of the surroundings.

The world as a whole was made up of what we called 'energy'. This energy existed in different forms, giving all beings an equal chance of wielding it.

My origin was attuned to the negative energy in the surrounding—I could feel the malevolence in the form of energy I wielded.

Spushh

The collision of my elemental arrow with my opponent aka Jasper was all I needed to focus on the matter at hand. Immediately conjuring multiple elemental arrows to float beside me, I prepared to take more shots.

Unlike the first, the current arrows were deformed, darkness being the main constituent in their making.

"Oi Oi. What a sumptuous attack you got there!" Jasper said in a fit of laughter. "Time to get serious– ohh."

Maria's spear bore through his left-hand side, a few inches from his heart. That is if his anatomy is similar to mine.

He didn't see the attack coming, I thought. At least my attack was able to create an opening for Maria's attack to land.

Nocking more arrows into the bow, I aimed at Jasper, increasing my shot speed. "Ha ha ha ha ha ha."

To my dismay, he released crazed laughter despite all the attacks heading in his direction. Forget about him, I knew he had allies in the vehicle—It's going to be a long fight.

Maria POV

Liam's attack created a good condition for my attack to be successful. Preparing for his retaliation, I retracted my spear.

"Ha ha ha ha!"

He won't be strong if that attack could end him. Too bad, I hoped it would incapacitate him for a while.

[Liam]

I called out, checking if our mental link was still intact.

[Yes]

[Change of plans.] I said as I decompressed my spear. [We get the box, then use the teleportation array to escape]

It was a plan that just came to mind. Though crude, we had a better chance of using that route.

[It's risky.]  Liam rebuked. [Let's say we manage to get the box and escape. What next?]

I didn't want to agree, but I knew what he was referring to—If we should use the teleportation array, tracing us won't be hard.

[It's all about the risk, Liam. All or nothing]

[Don't regret this.]

[I won't]

"You guys make a great team. If not for the fact that your Union is an abomination—not forgetting your leaders will to eliminate you guys, I would have taken you two under my wing!" Jasper showcased his white teeth as he exclaimed.

"To prove my superiority, I shall end you here!"

I felt his aura grow as he released those words. The world shattered for a moment in my eyes. Was it an illusion? I couldn't tell.

"To treasure is to own. Only a true owner knows the worth of the item in their possession.

And I, Jasper the treasurer, find your weapon worthy."

My spear trembled at his words, decompressing against my will. If things continued this way, that balance I had created would be shattered.

"What do you think of my ability, Angel?"

"Not bad, for a Plunderer," I commented, realizing the power my enemy wielded.

Plunderer is a name given to a particular set of individuals who took over what others possessed without their consent.

I would rather call them 'thieves'. After all, that act was akin to theft. Though, you would not want to say those words to a plunderer's face.

"Despite your words, I see the scorn in your eyes. Same as everyone, you deem me filthy." Jasper snarled, his eyes taking a dark hue.

Not like I cared about his mood. I was too focused, trying to gain full control of my weapon.

[I don't think he could manipulate more than one weapon of this grade.]

I communicated to Liam, giving him the go-ahead to fire all the arrows he had prepared.

Swoosh

Swoosh

There came, raining upon Jasper at a high speed. Maybe he could have easily escaped if it was only an arrow.

"Arggh!!!" He wailed, staggering to the ground as the arrows hit random spots.

"Decompress!" Jasper yelled out.

No matter the energy I put into it, my spear kept elongating, leaving the terrain in ruins.

Currently, it has a size ten times my body, its weight not faltering behind. Holy! What did they create?

The spear was a gift, passed down generations. I was told my mom wielded it against her foes in battle. Specifically, demons.

Today I stood here, wielding it for a hybrid. Born of an angel and a demon—A being who should not exist in the world of the living. I never thought I would care for something so much, that I might be willing to sacrifice my life. How ironic.

[Maria style]

I thought, taking in deep breaths of air aka energy.

[Spear of judgment]

[Longinus]

Using all the strength I could summon, I pointed my spear in the direction of Jasper, the treasurer.

"Oh no!" Exclaimed someone from the vehicle. "Take us further from here, Transporter."

As the request was made, the vehicle vanished from the location, appearing miles away.

"I'm sure this place will be marked forever. What a weapon she possesses." A figure commented from within the vehicle.

"That's useless now. She will die anyway." Another said in a cocky tone.

"Can we keep the spear?" The first speaker inquired in an excited tone.

"..."

"You both should focus and stop saying bullshit." A masculine voice echoed from the back seat of the vehicle. "The Angels and Demons requested we return their relics to them—And that's what we will do."

He sounded like the leader of the operation as he scolded his allies to concentrate.

After a while of watching the show, his pupils constricted as he aimed an arm for the vehicle door.

"Shit!" He exclaimed, coming out of the vehicle. "It was a distraction—she gave up her spear to escape."

He silently stared at the location of the fight, his palm tightening in a fist.

The battlefield was lit with the power of the spear but he could feel the absence of their target within that light—A situation that made the veins in his forehead pop.

"Prepare the trackers. You can't escape me—I never leave work unfinished."
