Chapter 4 - Chapter Four-Life Lessons

Tracy was not coming to see me for any reason. She only called me if there was a need for that. I was surprised to see her in my room. I came back one afternoon to freshen up before going to my last lecture. I was in my room when my phone rang I picked it up and Tracy said she was at the door. I opened the door and Tracy was standing and smiling sheepishly at me. I opened the door and let her in. “ Tracy, I wasn't expecting you. You are welcome all the same. How are you? I asked her feeling uneasy about her visit.

She looked around the room and said she came to check on me to know how I was fairing. “ I don't like how we relate to each other. I'm sorry for all I've done to you. Can we be friends? “ I was shocked to see Tracy apologizing. She was too pompous to apologize to anyone. I thought about it for a while. Who was I to reject her apology? After all, her parents were accommodating me. I simply smiled and said “ That's fine Tracy. I don't have anything against you. Why should I? “ She was happy to hear that and came and hugged me. We started getting along.

After lectures on Friday, I saw Rose and Prince holding hands and talking. I wanted to follow another direction but Rose looked up and saw me. She shouted my name. I looked in her direction and screamed as if I didn't notice her the first time” Hey! Rose! “ I turned and walked down to where they were. “ Cynthia, meet my friend Prince. Prince this is Cynthia, my friend. She declared jokingly and Prince gently shook hands with me. We spent time there talking about school, lecturers, and lectures.

Prince was not bad looking at all. His look and carriage explained to me why Rose was head over heels in love with him. Seeing two of them I agreed they were a perfect match.

Rose’s family accepted Prince and he could easily visit Rose any time school vacated. Prince talked to me about Rose as if they had known each other for years.

I got home in the evening exhausted but not too exhausted to talk to Davis when he called me. “ Hi, Davis. How was your day?” He sounded so weak that I thought he was ill. “ I'm good dear. Just woke up from sleep. I need to discuss something with you. When can we meet?My heart was panting. What could it be? The way he sounded I felt there must be something important and urgent he wanted to discuss with me. “ I don't have much to do tomorrow evening after lectures if it's convenient for you” My response was accepted because he cleared his throat and said” Perfect”

That evening. I wore a beautiful red gown, that made me look like a queen. I wore my favorite perfume and packed my hair neatly. When he saw me, he couldn't set his eyes off me. He wore a pair of blue jeans on a black t-shirt that complimented his fair complexion. As he came closer, I could smell his perfume from afar. He wore cool water by Davidoff and looked so charming that I prayed no one should steal him from me. “ Sunshine!” he shouted as he fondly called me. Anytime he called me that, it made me feel so treasured. The look on his face reassured me that there was nothing wrong. He came closer and hugged me. “ Hey, Davis. You scared me when you said we needed to meet. Hope you are fine. “ I asked Davis taking a seat beside him at our meeting point. “ I wasn't fine but now that you're here I'm cool”

Something was bothering Davis but he seemed not willing to share it with me. I decided to ask him. “ Davis, what's eating you up? I think something is bothering you. Why don't you want to let me know? When did we start keeping secrets? I asked and looked concerned. “ I'm so sorry Sunshine, I will tell you everything. I was wondering if it was right to tell you.” Davis looked into my eyes apologetically.

“ I had a terrible dream last night. In the dream, we were invited to a party. When it was time to dance I rose to dance with you. As we were dancing, Tracy came out of nowhere and pushed you down. She then held my hands to start dancing with me. I was shocked and removed her hands. Before I could find my way out of the crowd to get to you, you were nowhere to be found. I was shouting your name till I woke up. I woke up and immediately started trying your line. Thank goodness I finally got you”. I listened to all he said with rapt attention.

I smiled and looked at him “ Davis, I think you have a fever or something. Tracy can't do a thing like that” I tried to cover up for Tracy. I didn't want Davis to think that I had issues with Tracy who he took as my sister. Davis met Tracy for the first time the day she was looking for one of her coursemates who happened to be Davis's roommate. Davis was told and he decided to lead her to where her coursemate was. That was the day I saw the two of them together. Davis said Tracy gave him her phone number before he even asked and took his. She would call Davis and talk for hours none stopping until Davis started ignoring her calls. That was why she felt I stole Davis from her when she saw him with me.

“ Sunrise, I don't want any harm on you. I don't know the meaning of this dream but believe me, it got me thinking. I was terrified that very night. I love you so much. I can't imagine losing you. Can we meet more than just once a week, please?” Davis begged almost kneeling. I accepted with a smile. Davis was so irresistible that I could hardly say no to his demands.
