Chapter 6 - Chapter Six- Bitter Truth

Rose was shocked when I narrated what happened to her. “ Oh, dear! What on earth have you done to deserve this? You need to be more careful with her” I nodded as I listened to her. I suddenly found myself thinking about my late parents and my sister Becky. I would have been in my house with my family “ I would have been with my family in my house if not for those wicked armed thieves” I thought and allowed some

tears to freely flow down my eyes.

“ What are you doing Cynthia? Please you need to be strong now. I understand how you feel but we need to find a solution to this present problem”

“ I'll call Devis. I don't doubt that he'll pick up my call. Let's settle the issue” I thought about her suggestion and had mixed feeling about it. Davis confessed to me that he loved me. “ Does it mean that his love for me has no iota of trust? I’d rather stay alone than love someone who can’t trust me” I was thinking aloud this time.

“ Cynthia, I understand how you feel. Two of you can't be wrong at the same time. He has the right to express how he feels. Probably, if you were in his shoes, you would be so much worse” Suddenly her phone rang and she picked up her phone. “ Hi, Prince. I'm so sorry. I'll be with you in five minutes” She cut the call and turned to me” Please forgive me I need to be on my way. I need to be with Prince in twenty minutes. I'll call you later. She stood up and gave me a hug” That’s fine dear. I understand. Thank you so much for coming”. She was almost near the door” Don't mention! What are friends for?”

When she left. I closed my door and cried like a baby. I thought about how unfair life was to me. When I thought I had found love, I found myself heartbroken and shattered. “ Where do I go from here?”

I couldn't resist the urge to call Devis. The first time I called he didn't respond. When he finally responded he answered as if he didn't know the caller” Hello! “ I felt terrible. I didn't know where to start. “ Devis, can you give me a chance to at least explain what happened ?” Davis's response was cold and I felt even worse.

“ There is nothing to explain. I”d suggest you don't call my phone again” He cut the call and switched off his phone.

I moved on with my life and decided not to have anything to do with love.

I decided to read my books more than ever. I made sure I occupied my mind with so many activities and had no time to think about Davis. Devi would see me and pass as if he had never met before. My coursemates and those that knew about us started asking questions. I simply told them we were fine. That we needed a little space.

Tracy was so happy and couldn't pretend about it. She came to visit one Saturday evening. I welcomed her and we got talking. We talked about school, home, some of her friends I knew, and finally Davis. Just to satisfy my curiosity I asked” Tracy, did you send out any message with my phone? “ I asked not expecting her to tell me the truth. Tracy would not admit to doing anything wrong unless she was caught. “ I don’t get it, Cynthia. Do I share your phone with you.? Why would I send someone a message with your phone? I’ve made up my mind to stop fighting you. I can’t send Someone a text message without telling you.``

Tracy's reply gave me all the answers I was looking for. Tracy was the one that sent that test message to Davis. Tracy was a beautiful young girl with all the curves in the right places. She had lovely long hair that complemented her height. She would pass for a beauty queen. I wondered why she couldn't be in a serious relationship.

I decided to let go of her bad behavior and be friendly with her. Her mum's love for me made me overlook her flaws. I got to her room one evening and met her with a man about five years older and a young lady about my age I guessed.

“ Hi, Cynthia! Good to see you. Meet Fred my course make and Sophia my friend” She said casually and smiled at me… “Nice to meet you both. I hope my coming here did not interrupt your discussion. I can leave and come back another time. I should have called you before coming Tracy. I'm so sorry” I apologized.” Cynthia! it’s okay. They are my friends. You can come to see me any time any day”.There was something about Sophia that made me keep staring at her. I was so surprised at the new changes I saw in Tracy.

Sophia sighed and turned to Tracy and said” Tracy it's right she apologized. You don't just visit people in this part of the world without calling. It doesn't matter who she is to you”

The way she talked made me feel uneasy in their midst. I started thinking of what to say. “ Tracy, Please if you don't mind I would like you to bring my textbook I kept on my table when you travel this weekend”.

“ That's fine. I'll bring it. Don't tell me you're about to leave”

“ Tracy I have an appointment with a friend in twenty minutes. I'll visit next time”.Fred and Sophia pretended not to hear what we were discussing and were busy with their phones When I said goodbye they both looked and said “bye”

I left the room and thanked God I did. Where on earth did Tracy meet the two people I saw in her room? They were too rude and didn't bother to hide it. Fred looked like a player. He didn't look like the kind of man that could be in a serious relationship. I wondered what he was doing in Tracy’s room. Well, she introduced him as her friend. I wanted to go to the library to read. So, I went straight to the hostel picked up my books, and headed to the library.
