Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Unlucky Quest?

/I was writing this after play beat saber./

/Pls Enjoy/

-3rd POV-

It's been 4 years since Lucy has started testing for NWO. Yes, 4 years, this game is not easy to make, especially with all the bugs Lucy finds whenever she even puts on that VR.

But, after those 4 years, a new device came out. It was the one that was used for NWO in the Bofuri series. So immediately, the company ordered one and worried that they needed to start from scratch. But, luckily enough, they didn't.

All the code kept working, they just needed to reshape and touch up on things.

And today was another day in the office.

*Bam*

The door slammed open to the development office showing Lucy. She's now 17 Years old, and Kaede being 11. She's still short though, but just as cute to match. With Risa being around the same height. But, would you believe that Risa would be taller than Kaede by 3 inches when the series starts?

Anyway, now that Lucy is 17, she's also taller than before. She's now 5'2' and has her mismatched hair in ponytails. She's still wearing her school uniform cause she ran all the way here after school. Yes, she ran and doesn't have a single drop of sweat on her.

She had gotten pretty fit considering she ran here from school and sometimes from home over the 4 years.

The office was glad to see Lucy, especially since whenever she comes over, whether it be to test or to relax, she always cooks. That's right, the office has a kitchen, which is usually just the employees microwaving or making instant noodles. But, out of concern, Lucy has taken it upon herself to cook whenever there's ingredients in the fridge.

The deal is, the office puts stuff in the fridge and Lucy would use those ingredients to make a meal for everyone present in the office.

Which would usually take an hour or two, but they decided that they'd pay an extra 1k yen for the service at the end of each week.

"So, what's the test this time guys?" Lucy asked, as she walked over to the kitchen.

"This time, you'd be testing the quest system with the new gaming equipment. With the new equipment, we can make more open quests with varying options for the players." One of the developers explained as he patted the headset and gloves he had on his desk.

"I see~" Lucy hummed while prepping a pot with boiling water.

-Skipping Cooking Because I Can't Be Bothered-

Lucy was now in the test room and had just put on the new headset and gloves. She laid down on a bed that was prepped for her.

"Entering game now." She closed her eyes and opened them to see a black void with several weapons surrounding her.

"Oh, you guys see this right?" Lucy had asked. A little rabbit appeared beside her.

"Yep, only you and me can interact though, the others are watching through a video feed. Later we're planning on adding time dilation or difference to this place." Lucy nodded and looked at the selections of weapons.

Several swords, blunt weapons, staffs and options were available. Lucy smiled and asked the rabbit something he didn't expect.

"Can I choose nothing? As a test per say." She stared at the rabbit before it simply replied with a nod.

"Great, then nothing it'll be." As she said this, all the weapons vanished before she had to choose where to put her stat points. They had to make a new character every time she played because there may be bugs within the menu or character creation.

Lucy had already thought it through and laughed a bit. She then put 25 into everything but Dex. Because for some reason, anything related to Luck just is bugged for her.

Then, came the character name screen, she simply put "Lux". After all, she didn't want her name to be "Luck" or "Lucks" so "Lux" came off easier and matched with her.

She then asked the rabbit to change her avatar to what she requested. The black and white features of hers turned blond and yellow, matching herself before reincarnation.

She nodded in satisfaction and went in.

-NewWorld Online Test-

She spawned into a town and looked around. It looked exactly like the anime and manga. With the only exception being no people, well, NPCs were here, but no actual players.

"So, who do I ask for this quest? Or do I have to ask an NPC randomly here?" Lucy asked the floating rabbit next to her.

"Just talk to the NPCs and see, if nothing happens or a bug occurs we'll take you out." It replied. Lucy looked forward and talked to the first person she saw.

"Hey, I'm new here, got any place to recommend for gear, potions or a place to stay?" Lucy asked the question like she was an adventurer. To which the NPC replied surprisingly.

"Since your new here, I'll show you around you little sunflower." Surprisingly, the NPC girl replied, and a quest screen popped up in front of Lucy.

[Quest: Follow NPC $t*5#% around town]

Lucy then whispered towards the rabbit, "Hey, is this a bug or...?"

"We haven't given any NPCs a proper name or ID yet, so we've just set something random as a name for all current NPCs. Also, it seems that the quest system is working properly so far, now complete it and see what happens." The rabbit said.

"Sure, I'll go around town with you." Lucy nodded and accepted the quest.

They walked around the town in the First Floor and it was calming. Lucy got a good idea where everything was and smirked. 'This'll give me an advantage to when the game comes out. So this is good.'

Then, the quest completed and the NPC turned around to face Lucy. "Well, I hope you enjoy our little town, here, take this as a gift from me."

The NPC gave Lucy a pouch, to which she happily grabbed. "Thank you!" After she said that, the NPC calmly nodded and walked away.

Lucy checked the contents of the reward and her eyes dropped. 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 gold, and the passive, "Money = Power". The name says it all, and Lucy essentially became god with this.

The rabbit beside her sighed and said, "Looks like you either found another bug, or that strange luck of yours did something again."

In the office, the others that were watching all also sighed, because this might as well be a daily occurrence. Either Lucy found a bug, or the game favored her way to heavily. There was nothing they could do about it. They even tried setting her Dex to the max negative of 9,223,372,036,854,775,807, but nothing worked.

"Looks like when Lucy plays our game, she's going to just break it with her luck." One of the programmers spoke with a bit of sadness.

"Hey, at least it'll only be her and no one else." Another said. Then they all nodded sagely.

"Lucy, since we confirmed that the quest system works properly, we'll test the boss fights next time your here." The rabbit said as it quickly disappeared.

Lucy logged off as well and that concluded just another day in the office.

/Author Section/

Yeah, so now that I've thought about it. I could just not put anything into Dex and Lucy would still have busted as hell luck and control even without it.

Should Lucy be a complete solo player, have a guild or join Maple Tree? I think I want her to be solo, just because her luck is stupid and sharing drops just ain't fair.
