Well, I have had such accommodations. Plus, it makes life so much more entertaining. We humans nowadays are an easily bored kind of race, to be honest. We always want something.
[Hmph! Humans are always so greedy and selfish. Constantly fighting one another is a war for small things and even big ones for pathetic reasons. If people fight over resources, but proceed to spend the remaining resources funding a war, that is pathetic. If they also wanted to lower the population to reduce resource use just do it. Why do they need to make war for something they caused themselves through arrogant means]
Huh?
[*Sigh* Never mind...Time for you to wake up]
She snaps her fingers in my face and I suddenly jump with the void turning into a bright room that is white and I feel some slight pain in my body.
"Urgh!" I flinch a bit more and feel the left part of my torso sting a bit. I look over and uncover myself to see bandages around the bicep of my arm, and shoulder.
I thought it was bigger...
[I took the liberty to use some of the nanites to heal part of your body more before the healer and doctors took care of you. By the time the doctors did anything they basically had to repair 2nd degree burns instead of 4th degree ones. Remember, you used the nanites to protect your vital organs to ensure minimal damage inflicted.]
Right, right...I forgot about that. But is my condition minimal enough that my moving will not be too much of an issue?
[Won't be an issue, I can send nanites to speed up the healing process more, as well as numb the pain to make it less uncomfortable.]
Do it.
*7 minutes later*
I have been laying under the cover for a bit slowly feeling the pain subside for a while and moving my left arm more freely.
"I think my arm is feeling better now," I say throwing the covers off of me. But I didn't realize I was changing into a different type of pants. Somewhat loose and thin. Sort of like a hospital gown to a degree. I throw myself out of bed and stretch a bit with my back popping in place. I feel stiff a bit.
[The doctors and medics seemed to have been a bit confused by your biology. Seems they took slight notice of some things when tending to you when you slept]
"How do you know?"
[Just cause you are sleeping doesn't mean I am. I can hear things while you are in a slumber. Heard them talking about your injuries didn't exactly match the same kind of damage that likely would've been inflicted on you with reports of the explosion. But they seem to have put it aside. But they were a bit suspect of the little injuries acquired.]
"Well doesn't matter at the moment. I want to eat something"
[Fine by me. The nanites will heal your burns faster than naturally. So won't be long before no bandages.]
Alright. I am sure I can find some food around here
[You were asleep for several hours...so it would be night time]
"Eh?"
I look towards the window and throw the curtains out to see it is dark outside and barely see anyone outside except a couple of knights with touches patrolling in groups of five.
Huh...That's not fair...Starting right now I am eating and going back to bed and deal with this the next day.
I walk up the door and pull it back only to be stumped to a stop by a tall figure wearing silver armor with broad shoulders. They turn around with a shuffle of their armor and look straight down at me.
His face is slightly tan but not too dark, he has brown eyes, black hair, and canine-looking ears coming out of his head. Beastman no doubt. Pretty tall though.
"You're awake, good," he says with a somewhat deep tone.
He is wearing the insignia of a blue hawk. I guess he is a part of the campus guards here. I wonder if the Academy is guarded by the Hawk guardsmen because they were chosen, or if it is because the Capital is Hawk territory. Curious.
"Please stay here, I will get the late-night doctor," he says grabbing the doorknob and closing it shut on me.
I turn back around and walk towards the window again and place both hands on the window near my eyes to see better in the darkness outside.
[Your enhanced eye also has some built-in features.]
"Let me guess, night vision"
[Yes, to a degree. It heightens the small sources of light to allow things to be illuminated better. But it is still a human eye. Even it has its limits.]
"Yeah I guess that makes sen-" I cut myself off and take my face away from the window as I hear rapid footsteps. As it gets closer I feel somewhat unsettled. Readying myself I raise both hands a bit ready just in case.
*BAM*
The door is kicked open which is Gizzele's hoof leaving a print of the door. Luckily the door is metal as well as the whole door frame and hinges. But that door is never going to be the same.
"You're alright!" Gizzele yells stomping towards me ruining the wooden floorboards.
"Uh yeah just calm down! What are you doing here?" I ask
"Well uhm, I uh...I might've skipped all my classes today sitting in the lounge area..."
"What...Are you sure it won't hit your grade or record or something?"
"Oh, the Academy system works differently. It is not affected by attendance or tests in person per se. It is based on abilities during exams at a specific time of the year. Many royals skip lessons due to how powerful many are, as a result, they skip classes a lot and get away with it." she says finishing
"Well, that seems unfair for those who are not royals...Why do they come here if they are not here to learn?"
"Well, the Academy is a prestigious school for many arts and educations. So sending their children here is a must for many wealthy, royal, and hardworking folk with ambition. But many royals skip out since it is more like a place to flaunt their status." she finishes
"Another reason for me to dislike them more...no offense Gizzele you seem like a decent good person
"My family isn't really royalty, but a family of hardworking folks who contributed majorly to royalty in the armed forces of the kingdom. But I am still the only one in my family to make the choice to seek out a different position instead of becoming a royal guardswoman or being married to one."
"Well, anyways. You didn't have to like you know...wait here for me. I am fine clearly."
"Well, I didn't! Geez...thought you would be more appreciative," she says slightly saddened
"I am grateful but I don't want you to worry about me. Besides you only knew me for less than a day."
"Actually, now that you mention it. My parents are having a family gathering outside of the Academy very soon. Tomorrow actually. I am kind of wondering if...well you know..." she says beginning to become shy and shifty with her movements.
Seeing someone so tall be this shy is kind of an odd thing to experience in person.
[You poking fun at someone with insecurities?]
Hell no. I just mean the norm is the small person or smaller stature are the ones to be shy instead of the physically bigger ones. But maybe it is for another reason. If she says her family has been contributors to the royal families as guardsmen and guardswomen, then I assume they need some confidence. So I am guessing her lacking it at this moment is why she is the first to go to the Academy instead of training.
[you know, that makes a bit of sense. But for all we know this could be a facade and she is trying to trick you]
What could she possibly be tricking me into...
[Kidnapping, slavery, perhaps human trafficking and selling of your body!]
You just to the largest conclusions without enough evidence behind them...
[I account for all possibilities]
Well then keep them. But man you jump so fast. We could be seeing a kid cry in the street begging for money, and you would jump to them being some kind of trickery
"So...what do you think?" she asks
"I uhm, I would be happy to meet your family! Besides I got nothing else really better to do. I will just study what I need to study the next day or when we get back tomorrow."
"Great! I am so excited for them to meet you. I am sure they will like you. Or maybe not. Hard to say with how odd they are."
"Well, an odd family is better than no family at all. At least for me."
"Miss," a male voice calls out.
I look behind Gizzele and see the same beastman from before back with a questioning look at the hoof print in the door, and then back at us both.
"Am I interrupting something?" he asks crossing both arms almost smug like
"Uh no! I will see you tomorrow or whenever," she whispers at the end running away with her hooves clacking on the floorboards.
"Geez, these floors need to be updated for cloves. Their hooves damage floors easily," he comments.
"Oh stop it, Lucas!" a female voice calls out squeezing between herself and the door.
"Now, please give us some privacy. I need to speak with him now that he has woken up," she says
"Of course. I will be outside" he says closing the door, which is difficult for him to put it back in place. The hinges are displaced a bit after Gizzele kicked the door.
