Shane slammed the door shut behind him, the force echoing through the empty hallway like a gunshot. He ignored it.
That wasn't what bothered him.
His heart hammered against his ribs, mirroring the chaotic beat of his thoughts.
He raked a hand through his hair, messing up the already dishevelled style. His chest heaved, and his breath came out in ragged gasps.
Everything had gone wrong!
Their father's attention had been brought back to Skai.
"She… Can't she have some peace?!" he roared, his voice thick with frustration and a hint of desperation, as he snatched a decorative pillow off the plush armchair by the corner and flung it across the room.
The fabric exploded against the wall with a muffled thud.
Silence descended, broken only by his ragged breaths. Shane shut his eyes, tugging at his hair before releasing it in a huff.
"Arrgh!"
