Chapter 20 - Inherit the Company

Xia Zhi quickly caught on. However, she sensed that Chu Nan would not listen to her, so she wanted to shake her head. However, Chen Feng's puppy eyes won her over.

Xia Zhi gave it a shot. "Go to the meeting. You've seen me in action. Do you think that I can't take care of Grandpa by myself in the hospital?"

Chu Nan wanted to say something, but he could not refute her words.

Even so, after giving a jerky nod, he did not forget to remind Xia Zhi, "Call me if you need anything. Call me, even if it was something like what you did at the old mansion."

Xia Zhi answered, "I can easily get rid of Lin Wang, so I didn't tell you."

"I know you are strong, Zhizhi. I have faith in your ability to handle it, but it still makes me nervous."

Chu Nan was very solemn. He did not speak quickly, nor did he speak loudly, but his words left a deep impression on Xia Zhi's heart. She could not help but nod her head and softly said, "Alright."

Xia Zhi was in deep thought on the way to the ward. The fact that their engagement was a ploy baffled her. The feeling of her heart going numb for a few seconds just now made it seem even more real.

"Little Zhi, you're finally back," Zhao Shan said before Xia Zhi could think about it. "Old Master's lawyer is here. He said that he has something very important to talk to you about."

Lawyer Zhang's eyes brightened as soon as he saw Xia Zhi walk into the ward. He pulled a few papers out of his briefcase and said, "Miss Xia Zhi, this is the old man's will."

Will?

It took Xia Zhi a few seconds to recover from her initial shock. "When did Grandpa make his will?" she frowned, eyeing the papers Lawyer Zhang had laid out. Did he know there was something wrong with his body?

Lawyer Zhang answered all of Xia Zhi's questions without missing a beat. "The old man suddenly came to me two months ago to make a will. I also found it most peculiar, but he repeatedly stressed that if anything happened to him, he wanted me to give the will to you, Miss Xia Zhi."

After Lawyer Zhang finished, he paused for a moment of reflection before continuing, "The old man didn't say anything about his physical condition, but I remember that during that time, he asked Doctor Lin to check his body several times. He probably felt something amiss."

Xia Zhi gritted her teeth and asked, "Lin Wang?"

Although Lawyer Zhang didn't understand why Xia Zhi was so angry, he still nodded affirmatively.

After hearing Lawyer Zhang's affirmative response, Xia Zhi closed her eyes and took a few deeper breaths. She felt bad about how leniently she had dealt with Lin Wang. She should have kicked him and pricked him several more times.

Xia Zhi collected herself and thought back on what had happened. Her grandfather made a will two months ago and summoned her from Lin City to the capital to carry out the betrothal she had made as children.

Xia Zhi lowered her eyes and asked Lawyer Zhang softly, "Grandpa already guessed that Xia Long wanted to harm him. He asked me to come to the capital to get engaged because he wanted me to get the protection of the Chu family, right?"

Lawyer Zhang thought about it and replied, "I think it's very possible. The old master also asked me to give you this share transfer agreement and this jade pendant. It is practically an imperial edict in the company."

After Lawyer Zhang finished speaking, Xia Zhi finally spotted the two items on the table. She reached out and gently stroked the jade pendant. After a pregnant pause, she finally asked, "Does Grandpa want me to inherit the company?"

"Yes, the old man insisted that you take over the business,"

Xia Zhi didn't bother to find out why. She knew that even if she asked, Lawyer Zhang was as much in the dark as she was.

When Zhao Shan returned to the room after Lawyer Zhang had left, he found Xia Zhi staring at the old man with bloodshot eyes. She silently accompanied her.

Xia Zhi came to her senses after some time passed and said hoarsely, "Senior Sister, Grandpa knows that Xia Long has ill intentions and has arranged everything for me."
