Chapter 23 - Sure Thing

The attention of everyone in the room was on Xia Zhi, and when they saw what she pulled out, someone had to ask, "What is this?"

In a measured tone, Xia Zhi addressed the group, "The share transfer agreement."

Xia Zhi did not give them time to doubt him before telling them, "If you have any questions, go straight to Lawyer Zhang."

Xia Long had originally wanted to put Xia Zhi in a tough position, but the moment Lawyer Zhang's name was brought up, he immediately stopped. After all, everyone in the industry knew of Lawyer Zhang's integrity.

Lawyer Zhang had helped a few powerful people, and Xia Long couldn't afford to offend them, so he didn't question him.

If he couldn't question it right now, he'd have to start from a different angle.

Xia Long gave Xia Zhi a sardonic eye roll before cracking a grin. "Sure, sure. We don't doubt those papers. You're just too young at the moment. Study as diligently as your sister does. No need to worry if you're not doing well in school."

The others caught on to what Xia Long was getting at and joined in after hearing his explanation.

"That's right, that's right. Studying is important at your age. You won't be able to effectively run the business until you graduate. We're also concerned because you've never dealt with company business before."

"President Xia has worked very hard for many years. Under his direction, the company has flourished. You should lend your father the use of your shares for the time being. You are all related, after all."

Several echoes followed this sentence.

Xia Long's mouth crinkled up involuntarily, and he smiled. He cast a satisfied glance at Zhao Shi, who had made the initial observation.

Xia Zhi has taken note of Zhao Shi as well. She stared at him intently for a few seconds before finally looking away.

Zhao Shi only felt a chill fall upon his body, but it vanished before he could investigate it. He didn't give it much thought because he was met with Xia Long's approval. He couldn't help but puff up his chest, convinced that his promotion and salary increase were just around the corner.

Xia Long was genuinely happy, but he had always been self-conscious about his appearance, so he acted as if he were saying, "Everyone, don't say that. Although I am competent, the old man has given Little Zhi the shares. I can't just take them away like that."

Xia Long gave Zhao Shi a look after he finished speaking. He caught on quickly, and he proclaimed, "But the company can't be handed over to a young girl without experience!"

"Yes, yes. Will it not be the end of our company if we give it to Xia Zhi?"

"We back President Xia's takeover, we back President Xia's takeover!"

As Xia Zhi observed the conference room, she got lost in thought. The setting reminded her of a MLM company. She remained silent, staring expectantly at Xia Long as he finally revealed the reason he had been holding out for so long.

Xia Long didn't keep her waiting too long, which was a relief. He "humbly" quieted the crowd and turned to face Xia Zhi. "They're all good people. They just want someone capable to take the helm. So why don't we try it out? I'll assign you a task. If you can pull it off, it will be a testament to your skills."

Xia Zhi nodded and said, "Alright."

"I anticipated your refusal. After all, this is a very challenging project... What did you say?" Xia Long was mid-sentence when the realization hit him that Xia Zhi hadn't rejected him.

Xia Zhi repeated herself slowly and patiently.

Xia Long did his best to contain his shock. He had expected Xia Zhi to give up the shares after learning about the difficulties, but he had not expected her to try. But it made no difference. After all, there was no way she could finish the task. Since she did not stand a chance, she might as well give up now.

Xia Long grinned as he imagined Xia Zhi presenting him with the shares and said, "Alright, I'll send you the information later."

"Don't you know that your change of attitude is very obvious?" Xia Zhi asked Xia Long nonchalantly as she stood up. "Quit acting like a saint when you're not. Believe me, I'm aware of your thoughts."
