As the timer hit one nothing happened at first. No dragons descended, no plague erupted, and no foreign army spontaneously apparated at their front gate.
The tension never left the city. And as the minutes passed, many started to go back to their daily lives. Just as all but the guards stopped caring. Clay got a message from the system.
[System message]
To all gods of authority 2 or higher, the temporary realm conjoining known as Open-beta shall commence. Immortals shall descend, notify you believers.
Reward: 0.01 divine power per believer notified.
'Wait!, Did the almighty Tod get in trouble because he made me a god? But who could possibly punish him. I need to find out more about Tod'
"Hey Nirin, Another Realm or something is going to open up to our city, and something about immortals. Be ready."
"Whatever you say man."
Just as Nirin gave a sarcastic response, Aria appeared out of a space crack and informed the entire city of such immortals soon flooding the city. At the same time as all this Nirin fell into a trance, and only came-too after a few minutes .
"How did you know that. How did you know about the immortals at the same time as Nox and Aria? they are gods, You are not." Nirin said in a demanding tone seeming betrayed.
"Well uh."
'I can't tell her that I got a random message from the world, that would only make her more skeptical. Ah yes! I'll just tell her that Tod made me a god'
"Ah yea, Almighty Tod made me a god. And thats why he's in trouble"
"Now why would he make you, some random boy, in the middle of nowhere, a god. And why didn't you tell me before?"
'Shoot, didn't think of this before.' Clay was in a bad situation here. He had pretty much cornered himself by blindly following the quest given by the world.
"Um, well… I don't know. All I can tell you is that I only just now found out I was a god, and that I don't know anything about Tod. That's probably my next goal... too figure out more that is."
"Okie~." Nirin went back to her normal happy-go-lucky self. "Well If you blindly told me that stuff, whoever told all the gods to say it must have offered something, right? Otherwise why would all the gods I know say something."
"Yea, I got a fraction of divine power for telling one person, you"
"Divine power? Isn't that what the priests at the church use."
"It's probably like," Clay paused and collected his thoughts "more along the lines of what gods use to make miracles."
"Dummy. there is no way you could gain such power" dismissing Clay, Nirin continued. "But it would be smart to find these immortals, maybe scam them!"
Shaking his head at Nirin's idea, Clay decided to go along with it,minus the scamming part, and led Nirin out of the city.
After leaving the almost fanatical streets of the city, Clay wandered the grassy plain's surrounding the city with Nirin, leveling her up in the process.
It didn't take long for Nirin to go off on her own while Clay started to meditate. Deepening his connection with nature, Clay could hear voices on the wind, their whispers filled with words he had never heard before.
Ignoring such voices in the wind, Clay tried to form a connection with more then just the grass, but the flowers as well.
After many failed attempts, Clays meditation was interrupted by an unfamiliar voice. "Hello there sir, um is there anything I can help you with?"
Not expecting a random stranger to ask to assist him Clay fell into a moment of shock. Coming out of this lapse, Clay started to converse with the stranger a bit, Asking things like where they where from and why they might be trying to help.
Walking off a bit the girl which Clay had figured too be a immortal started to speak to herself. "Yes, this must be a hidden story! But to find somthing so crucial in an open beta." Ending with a contemplative tone the immortal girl went into thinking.
"Ah, mam, I never did catch your name. Who might you be? And do you still want to help?" Not one willing to let free help go unanswered, Clay asked for but a simple question of his to be answered. "If you really do want to help, I have been wondering who you immortals are. I would appreciate it if you would explain."
Before the girl could even start speaking Clay got another system interface blasted in his face.
[Quest system]
User can manually administer quests due to higher authority (authorities 1 and 0 can't)
Example quest given to immortal MoonTea
Name: [help me catch up]
Goal: I'm a bit behind on my knowledge of your kind help me learned about your kind some more
Reward: 1 reputation point
'Hmm seems like I'm definitely a god, or something similar. And this reputation, do immortals like to put everything into numbers? The worlds system also gave me their name.'
Quickly analyzing the interface the system had provided, Clay re-focused on reality, ready for the girl to give her explanation.
"Well, I'm an immortal, and, uhhh… oh yea we like to slaughter wild beasts for this thing called XP. some of us even kill each other But sense we are immortal we won't truly die," Pause if for a moment MoonTea kept going. "I personally love to explore and uncover the secrets of the world!"
MoonTea waited for a few seconds after she was done her explanation with an expectant gaze. Seeing this Clay thought them weird to look at him like that, but clarified his question. "I meant, where are you guys from?"
Visibly shocked by this question, a wide eyes MoonTea responded. "Well, umm, I am from a planet called Earth, and a country called #*%^+{%}**%}*. Anything else I can help you with?"
Marking their quest as complete Clay conversed a bit more before going back to meditation. Gaining multiple levels in the process.his mind focused on why he couldn't hear what they said.
Each level up providing 3 stat points for distribution.
