I was sitting by the bedside of the old woman I called Grandma, watching as she struggled to breathe. The small village we were in was on the eastern edge of Ramon's territory, and it was far from the safety of a pack. Hailey had taken me in when I was just a child, and I had been living with her ever since.
I had always known I was different from the other children in the village. I had never been interested in playing rough or getting into fights, and my delicate features and smooth skin set me apart. It wasn't until I reached puberty that I realized what I was: an omega.
Living in a small village, I had managed to keep my status hidden from most people, but I knew that danger was always lurking. I had heard stories of male omegas being taken by rogue packs and never seen again.
It was a fate I was determined to avoid, but right now, I was more concerned with getting the medicine Hailey needed.
"I can go get the medicine, Grandma," I said, my voice soft and gentle.
"No, no, dear," Hailey rasped. "It's too dangerous. You know what they do to male omegas." I nodded, knowing that she was right. Male omegas were rare and valuable, and many packs saw them as a commodity to be traded or used for breeding.
It was a fate that I was determined to avoid at all costs. But as the night wore on, Hailey's condition worsened, and I knew I had no choice. I slipped out of the small hut we shared and made my way to the nearest town, hoping to find a healer with the medicine Hailey needed.
As I made my way back to the hut with the medicine in hand, I was attacked from behind. I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head, and everything went black. When I came to, I was in a dark room, my hands bound behind my back. I tried to call out for help, but a cloth had been stuffed in my mouth, muffling my cries.
I looked around frantically, trying to figure out where I was and how I had gotten there. It wasn't until the door opened and a group of rough-looking men entered that I realized I had been abducted by rogues. My heart sank as I realized what fate might await me. My heart pounded in my chest as I realized I had been abducted by rogues.
Fear coursed through my body as I tried to make sense of what was happening. One of the rogues spoke to me in a rude and threatening manner and tried to take advantage of me. I was overwhelmed with terror and tried to fight back, but I was no match for the rogue's strength.
Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, another rogue burst into the room, shouting that Ramon, the feared demon alpha, was coming. The rogues panicked and ran, leaving me alone in the room. I quickly untied myself and ran out of the building as fast as I could, not daring to look back.
I didn't know what to do or where to go, but I knew I had to get away from the rogues and find a safe place to hide. As I stumbled through the forest, my heart still racing with fear, I heard the sound of approaching footsteps.
I froze, thinking it was one of the rogues coming after me, but then my heart pounded as I ran through the woods, adrenaline fueling my legs as I tried to put as much distance between myself and the rogues as possible.
My mind raced with fear and confusion, not knowing why I had been targeted or what they wanted with me. Suddenly, I felt a hand clamp down on my shoulder and let out a yelp of surprise, and spun around, ready to defend myself. But my eyes widened in terror as I saw the face of the alpha who had captured me: Ramon. I had heard stories about the ruthless alpha, and my heart sank as I realized that I was now at his mercy.
I was certain that Ramon would kill me on the spot, but to my surprise, the alpha simply let me go. I didn't stop to question it, I just took off running as fast as I could, my heart still pounding in my chest. I didn't stop until I had put a safe distance between myself and my abductors.
Feeling relieved, I finally reached the small cottage where I lived with my grandmother. As I approached the door, I saw her waiting for me outside, a look of concern etched on her face.
"Kai, you're back. Thank goodness," she said, her voice shaking with worry.
"I told you not to go out so soon. Rogues could have attacked you." I smiled weakly, trying to ease her fears.
"I know, Grandma. I'm sorry. I just wanted to get the medicine for you." She sighed, her eyes softening as she looked at me.
"You're always so kind, my boy. But you must be careful. You're a male omega, and it's not safe out there."
I nodded, but I didn't tell her about my abduction by the rogues. Instead, I made up a story about falling into a hunter's trap and managing to escape. My grandmother seemed to buy the story, and we went inside the cottage. I helped her to bed, making sure she was comfortable before sitting beside her.
She held my hand tightly, her grip weakening as she drifted off to sleep. I stayed by her side, watching over her until I was sure she was sound asleep.
As I lay down on my own bed, I couldn't help but think about my encounter with Ramon. The dreaded alpha had let me go, and that fact alone left me feeling confused and unsure of what to think.
I knew I should be grateful, but I couldn't shake off the fear that still lingered within me. Despite my worries, I drifted off to sleep, my mind full of questions and uncertainties about the alpha who had spared my life.
