Sitting on his chair, Sirzichs Lucifer didn't know what to do with the tens of letters he got over the past two months and a half from the Ministry of Magic of England. Like a brother who loved his sister, he spoiled Rias, a lot, and now, almost thirteen years after she was born, his doting had come to bite him in the ass in a political incident, one from what Sona Sitri explained to him, was started by his sister's new knight piece.
While the usual procedure was to just kill the reincarnated devil and retrieve the piece, Sirzichs couldn't bring himself from weakening his beloved baby sister's peerage, and so he found himself between a hammer and an anvil.
On one hand, there was the Ministry of Magic demanding an explanation and compensation for the boy, and on the other side, was Serafall, who from what Grayfia informed him about, was angry to the point of actually thinking of erasing the poor knight from the face of the underworld.
Then was the Phenex family demanding a harsh response against a human, but Sirzichs knew better why Caspian Phenex seemed to dislike the boy his sister's knight attacked. Ever since Thomas had started selling his potions in the underworld, under Serafall's protection, the devils, especially those who were not all that wealthy would rather spend their money on cheaper and effective potions than spend their entire fortunes on a Pheonix tear.
Just as Sirzichs was about to pay a visit to Serafall, the door to his office was opened and his wife, Grayfia walked inside carrying another letter in her hands. Sirzichs sighed, realizing that he would have to answer the Ministry soon otherwise, they might even send Dumbledore down here to negotiate.
"Another one?" he asked, taking the letter from Grayfia and reading it quickly. It was from the Minister of Magic himself, Cornelius Fudge, who was demanding an immediate response from the Devil King regarding the incident involving Thomas Grayson. While his people told him that Dumbledore did indeed see the boy as someone worth nurturing, Fudge claimed that Grayson was a valuable asset to the wizarding world and that any harm done to him by the devils would be considered an act of war.
A second after he read the letter, Sirzichs crumpled it and threw it into the fireplace, where it burned into ashes before he turned and looked at Grayfia, who was watching him with a worried expression.
"Grayfia, I don't know what to do. This situation is getting out of hand. If this was anyone else, I would have simply killed the reincarnated devil and be done with it, but this is Rias's piece we are talking about."
Walking close to her husband, Grayfia stopped right beside him and took his hand.
"Rias-sama is your sister and the current heir of her family, while Thomas Grayson is just a human wizard. In any normal circumstances, this matter would have never been an actual problem. Still, considering the boy's power, his accomplishments, and his relationships with quite a few influential wizard families, we will be forced to negotiate a disadvantageous deal, one that I have doubt would remain as a stain on Rias-sama's record."
Letting out another sigh, Sirzichs made up his mind. He was not a fool and from what he managed to learn, Thomas's mother had been injured in the past and while her son was slowly but surely healing her using potions, what better way of fixing an injury than a phoenix tear? That should suffice as compensation and with it, the Ministry would stop pestering him about that incident.
Meanwhile, in another, place, Thomas barely dodged a dark purple slash that came from Latia's hand. Ever since he "level-up" as Latia calls it, they had been training. And now, almost three months later, thanks to both Leif and Freja, as well as Mars, Thomas finally manages to take control of his new strength. Back to the fight, he gripped his dagger tightly, feeling the magical runes etched on its blade. For the past few months, Thomas realized just how stupid it was to fight with a wand as his main weapon, and since he got this dagger from Latia all those years ago, he decided to change his fighting style.
Right when Latia was about to attack again, he quickly cast a shield charm, to block Latia's next attack. Looking at her, he saw her smirk, as if she knew his charm was useless. And almost as if she waited for him, she raised her hand again, and this time, a ball of fire flew towards him, hitting the shield and dispersing itself.
"C'mon Thomas, you have to attack too. Use that high-class power you just gained!"
As soon as he heard her wish, Thomas "removed" his fear of injuring her before charging at her. He knew she was testing him, pushing him to use his full potential, something that both her father and even Freja did quite often when he was training with them. Before Latia could even react, Thomas slashed his dagger at her, catching her off guard.
When the blade touched her, a green light shone from around her before both of them found themselves a few meters away.
"Point for me, I guess."
Rather than getting angry, Latia just smiled before throwing a jab of her own at him.
"Is that all you got, Thomas? You're not even using your magic. Come on, show me what you can do."
This time thought, she pushed him back, sending a wind slash at him. Rolling underneath the slash, Thomas fired a firefly charm at her. Seeing the attack directed at her, Latia quickly fired another spell at it, hoping that Thomas didn't use all of his magic on it.
A second later, the two spells collided, creating a loud explosion. As the dust cleared, Thomas who used the dust barrier between them as a wall, flanked right. By some luck, Thomas managed to sneak right behind Latia using his magic to make himself as quiet as one could be. As soon as he was behind her, Thomas raised his dagger, ready to strike her from behind, when he felt the world slowing down around him.
He blinked, confused by the sudden change, before, as quickly as he could, looked at his hand, which was moving at a snail's pace. He tried to move faster, but it was like swimming in molasses.
With no idea about what was happening to him, he turned his head and saw Latia's face. She was looking at him fear, well it was more of a scared expression of what was happening rather than anything else. Though to his surprise, her eyes were glowing with a dark purple light.
His little stunt must have triggered something inside of her, thus bringing to life her bloodline power. Fearing that her power might harm her, Thomas pushed himself to the limit using every ounce of power he could muster after half a day of training. The aura that shoots right from within was more than enough to break him free and before Latia could even comprehend what was happening, she found herself in Thomas's arms.
Gently, fearing that he might harm her, Thomas helped Latia down until she was sitting on his lap while he was slowly caressing her back, praying to God that this would call her down long enough for Leif or Freja to realize that something happened.
A few minutes later, the barrier around them broke and Leif together with Lilith, came running towards Thomas and Latia, who by now had fallen asleep in his friend's arms. They were worried to see their daughter looking so… tired.
"Thomas, what happened here?" Leif was the first to speak, and the look he threw at the young boy almost made Thomas shiver. "Did you do something to her?"
Thomas shook his head, trying to explain. "Not exactly, uncle, it's a bit more complicated. We were training and then when I was about to hit her, I think her power activated by itself, maybe because of the stress or maybe because she wanted to win another round."
Leif listened to Thomas's explanation with a frown, then walked towards them and gently lifted his daughter in his arms. "Thank you for taking care of her, Tom. I appreciate your care for my daughter, but I need to take her to the house and check on her condition. She might have overexerted herself with her power."
Watching Leif walking towards the house, Thomas hoped that Latia would be okay, after all, he was in a way the reason why she awakened her powers.
"Thomas, I know you are worried, but I can assure you that my baby will be alright after she rests. However, I have some urgent news to share with you.
