He had to admit, Sirzichs was smarter than he thought the man was, after all, he did manage to make peace in such a simple way. Gave a phenex tear in exchange for resolving a political incident, one that his little sister's peerage had started.
While Thomas didn't hold any grudge against the knight, especially after he had involuntarily helped him "level up", he knew that what happened back there broke his relationship with Rias and her peerage. Well … partially, to say the least, as only a few days after that incident, Thomas, while still residing with Latia's family, got two letters from Akeno and, to his surprise, Koneko.
Akeno's letter was mostly about her complaining about just how stupid her King's decision was and how Rias should have stopped Kiba before he even attacked. Still, instead of being smart about it, Rias just watched like she was watching a show, something, that from what Akeno wrote, Sona berated her about.
Koneko's letter on the other hand was to his surprise, about how he was feeling and if he would remain her friend. Even though he was not all right at that time, Thomas still wrote them his responses, making sure that both girls would understand that he didn't blame them.
Then came an official later from the Ministry, something which Thomas was surprised to see, as he wouldn't have thought they would be able to contact him in the underworld, but alas it seems he was wrong. However, by the time he finished reading the letter, Thomas didn't know how to feel. The ministry of magic had found his family quite easily and before Sirzichs could do anything to them, not that Thomas thought the man was dumb enough to try, they returned to the UK. Yet the second part of the letter was the reason he didn't write to Rias.
Her brother had decided, that the compensation for what his little sister's knight had done would be given to him a year from the day he answered the ministry. If Thomas didn't know better, he would have thought that one of the Satans was acting like a child, and instead of acting like one of the rulers he decided to postpone giving the compensation until Thomas returns a year from now to the Gremory's mansion.
Remembering just how pissed Serafall had been when she learned about that day and how she almost blow Sirzichs's office made him smile. Truth be told he was glad she cared so much, especially when Sona visited him a week after the incident, apologizing to him for not stopping the fight herself, despite not being in her place to do so.
Thankfully for him, his stay in the underworld came to an end a few days ago, and while he did enjoy spending most of his summer holidays with Latia and her family, he would lie if he were to say he didn't miss his parents and grandparents.
And so, he went home, only to find that his parents had gone to his grandparents' home for the day, leaving Thomas to curse himself for not telling them earlier that he would come home. Thanks to his and his friends' frequent visits to Hogwarts kitchen, Thomas managed to make some of the elves, after much pleading and praising, how to cook some simple dishes, after all, if worst come true and he can't find a job as a wizard, he could use his talents and became a famous cook. With a simple dish in mind, Thomas grabbed his dagger, hiding it of course with magic, and left his house.
Meanwhile in another part, near London, Harry was several streets away before he collapsed onto a low wall in Magnolia Crescent, panting from the effort of dragging his trunk. He sat quite still, anger still surging through him, listening to the frantic thumping of his heart.
But after ten minutes alone in the dark street, gave Harry more than enough time to realize what he had just done and a new emotion overtook him: panic. Whichever way he looked at it, he had never been in a worse fix. He was stranded, quite alone, in the dark Muggle world, with absolutely nowhere to go, no that wasn't right. He could still go to Thomas's house, after all, many times over the years he had invited him to spend his summer or even Christmas holidays with him and his family. Ignoring for a second that problem, the worst of it was, that he had just done serious magic, which meant that he was almost certainly expelled from Hogwarts. He had broken the Decree for the Restriction of Underage Wizardry so badly, that he was surprised Ministry of Magic representatives weren't swooping down on him where he sat.
Once again, Harry found himself thinking about what Thomas told him and their friends about their wands.
"I won't speak for all of us, but I for one, am not a fan of using a wand in a fight. Don't get me wrong the wands are ok, but they are to focus on one thing rather than being versatile like an enchanted blade."
Cursing himself for not at least trying to buy a dagger-like Thomas had with all of the money his family left him, Harry shivered and looked up and down Magnolia Crescent. What was going to happen to him? Would he be arrested, or would he simply be outlawed from the wizarding world with his magic severed? He thought of his friends, even Daphne and Tracey, and his heart sank even lower. Harry was sure that, criminal or not, while some of them might not risk everything for him, at least Ron and Hermione would want to help him now, but they were both abroad, and with Hedwig gone, he had no means of contacting them. As for Thomas… he was probably the closest one to his home, but once again he had no way of contacting him.
If two things weren't bad enough, he didn't have any Muggle money, either. There was some gold in the money bag at the bottom of his trunk, but the rest of the fortune his parents had left him was stored in a vault at Gringotts Wizarding Bank in London. He'd never be able to drag his trunk to London. Unless …
Harry looked down at his wand, which he was still clutching in his hand. If he was already expelled, a bit more magic couldn't hurt. He had the Invisibility Cloak he had inherited from his father. What if he bewitched the trunk to make it feather-light, tied it to his broomstick, covered himself in the cloak, and flew to London? Then he could get the rest of his money out of his vault and … begin his life as an outcast. It was a horrible prospect, but he couldn't sit on this wall forever, or he'd find himself trying to explain to Muggle police why he was out in the dead of night with a trunkful of strange books and a broomstick.
After a few seconds, Harry opened his trunk again and pushed the contents aside, looking for the Invisibility Cloak, but before he found it, he quickly got back on his feet and looked around, almost as if someone was glancing at him. The funny prickling on the back of his neck had made Harry feel he was being watched, but the street was deserted of any living beings, and no lights shone from any of the large square houses. Then a sinister thought dwelled in his mind, what if… he was being watched by a ghost?
Gathering what little courage he could, Harry tightened his grip on his wand and cast a Lumos, and soon, on the tip of his wand, a dim light appeared. To his horror, the wall where he just stood sparkled almost as if he had done something to it and just as he turned his head for a second to look at the road, Harry saw, quite distinctly, the hulking outline of something very big, with wide, gleaming eyes.
In fear, he stepped backward, only for his legs to hit his trunk making him trip over it. Not caring about anything else, he yelled out, praying to Merlin that nothing would happen to him just as a gigantic pair of wheels and headlights screeched to a halt exactly where Harry had just been lying. They belonged, as Harry saw when he raised his head, to a triple-decker, violently purple bus, which had appeared out of thin air. Gold lettering over the windshield spelled The Knight Bus.
For a split second, Harry wondered if he had gone mad or if someone was playing a prank on him, but just as he was contemplating his sanity, a conductor in a purple uniform leaped out of the bus and began to speak loudly to the night.
"Welcome to the Knight Bus, emergency transport for the stranded witch or wizard. Just stick out your wand hand, step on board, and we can take you anywhere you want to go. My name is Stan Shunpike, and I will be your conductor this fine eve…"
The conductor stopped abruptly as he had caught sight of Harry, who was still sitting on the ground. Embarrassed, Harry snatched up his wand again and scrambled to his feet. Close up, he saw that Stan Shunpike was only a few years older than he was, eighteen or nineteen at most, with large, protruding ears and quite a few pimples.
"What were you doin' down there?" Stan, dropping his professional manner.
"Fell over."
"Fell over," Stan repeated a hint of mockery in his voice. "Fell over, eh? Well, that's a bit of bad luck, innit? You must be the clumsiest wizard I ever met, mate. No offense, but you look like you've been dragged through a hedge backward. What's your name, anyway?"
Harry opened his mouth to answer, but before he could say anything, a voice from within the bus made Stan stiffen and sneer.
"Shut it, Stan. Let Harry alone."
To Harry's surprise, the one who spoke was none other than the boy he wanted to go and visit. Seeing Thomas walking out of the bus with a smile on his face, made Harry let out a sigh he didn't know he held in.
"Hey, Harry, ignore this idiot over here. What are you doing in the streets alone?"
For a moment Harry didn't know what to say, but once again, Thomas realized that whatever happened must have been pretty bad for Harry to run away.
"Come on, let me help you with the trunk. We can talk when we get to my home if that's all right with you."
Harry only nodded as he and Thomas carried the trunk inside, while Stan sneered once more making Harry remember Draco Malfoy for some bizarre reason.
