Chapter 135 - Chapter 135

After parrying the attack, Thomas put some distance between him and Rias's new piece.

"I waited," Kiba spoke without moving from the spot, "Excited to meet you, and here you are. Someone of that wrenched place! I intend to finally rid the earth of your burden, you and all of you people!"

"You intend? What did I ever do to you?"

"You want to know too much, human. But I will tell you something else so you have something to think about on your way to hell. Your church is not what you think! They used young children for their sick pleasure!

Letting out a sigh, Thomas knew he was dealing with someone with some kind of trauma related to the church, and while he would have loved to argue, truth be told, bad apples can grow anywhere, otherwise angels would have not fallen.

Just as he turned towards Rias and Sona to ask for help, calming Rias's piece, he jumped aside and, drawing his dagger in a flash, a sword slashed at him with his dagger. Kiba backed away and raised his arm to make a move but at the last moment took fright. Not attempting a second attack like that, he swiftly retreated towards the other end of the room. Then, just as Thomas caught up with him, Kiba attacked with a feint only to jump aside and thrust his sword. Almost as if he expected that, Thomas spun in a pirouette, evaded and passed by Kiba, slashing the blonde boy's back with his dagger, while at the same time thanking Latia's mother in his head for her dancing lessons, after who would have thought that he would use them in a fight?

Despite being injured, Kiba backed away once more with lightning speed, giving Thomas some breathing room. But before he could relax, Kiba charged again, this time with two swords, slashing his swords from two directions in such a way that only one blow could be parried, while the other would only need to meet its aim. But Thomas did not parry and, instead, jumped at his legs. In order not to collide, Kiba had to dodge, but he didn't have that much time and he lost his balance and stumbled backward. Before he could even get up, Kiba saw the pointy tip of a dagger close to his face and Thomas's angry face staring at him.

"I think that's enough, Tom!" Rias shouted from across the room.

To everyone's surprise, Thomas glared hard at her making the red-haired princess shiver and take a step back.

"Thomas?"

Hearing Leif's voice, Thomas knew he could not continue anymore so he took the dagger away and turned his back on Kiba, who even now, after being defeated easily by a wizard, could only think about revenge.

Just as Thomas walked a few steps away, Kiba who was on the ground got up and attacked Thomas, this time with madness in his eyes. He swung his swords with such hate, that the only thing on his mind was to kill the wizard. But Thomas was not caught off guard and, using every bit of strength his peak middle-class strength could muster, he prepared to defend himself with his dagger.

However, before their weapons could clash, a sudden burst of light dispersed both attacks and in front of them, a figure wearing a classic maid outfit appeared looking angry and disappointed.

"Enough!" Grayfia scolded them calmly. "This is not a place for you to settle your personal grudges. As a knight of Rias-sama, you are expected to act like one, Kiba Yuuto. As for you…"

Before she could even say anything to Thomas, Leif, who until now stood silent, decided to interfere when Grayfia seemed to want to scold the party that was defending himself.

"I think this is my cue to interfere, Grayfia. We both know who's at fault here and if young Tom over here were to be injured, the underworld would have been thrown into a political war, one which we would have lost."

For a moment, Grayfia didn't say or do anything, until Sona, who by now was disappointed in her friend's willingness to let her new knight fight their friend decided to interfere too.

"Lady Grayfia." She said, making Grayfia turn her head at her. "While both parties are at fault to various degrees, Leif Astaroth is right. If Tom hadn't been such a great fighter, then I feared we would have had one of the first political wars since the civil war."

Grayfia clenched her teeth, something she hadn't done in years if not decades, as she listened to Sona's words. She knew that the Sitri heiress was right, but she couldn't stand the idea of letting a human who had humiliated House Gremory leave unpunished.

"You are obviously right, Sona-sama, but the fact remains that this human wizard had humiliated house Gremory, and as such, the devils will not allow Lord Zeoticus to accept this outcome. As for you Thomas Grayson, do you have any idea what your actions mean?"

Thomas shrugged and smiled faintly. "I was just defending myself. I didn't ask for this fight, nor did I care about your politics to involve myself in them, my lady. But please understand, that while I'm just a mere human wizard touching the high class, I'm not afraid of you or your consequences. "

After Thomas said that, silence fell in the room. Everyone was stunned by his bold words, well other than Leif and his daughter who were wearing the beginning of a smile on their faces. As for Thomas himself, he didn't seem to fear the wrath of his friend, nor did he show any remorse for his actions. After all, he was not in the wrong here, and not even God or in this case, one of the Satans could say otherwise.

Meanwhile, the maid who wanted to wrong a right, grew angrier by the second. She couldn't believe that a human could be so arrogant and defiant. So, she decided to use her trump card. She knew that Thomas had a weak spot, something that he cared about more than anything else. While not something she would be proud of doing, she knew that the young boy had a loving mother and father as well as his grandparents, whom her husband had given them a vacation.

"You are courageous, Thomas Grayson, I'll admit that. But, do you think that we are not aware of your parents? Do you think that we have not been watching them closely?"

Her words hit Thomas like a thunderbolt. Fear started to rise inside of him as he looked at the maid with his eyes wide open in disbelief. If this was the family of his friend, then...

Before he could even delve into those dark thoughts, anger replaced his fear and he felt a burning sensation in his veins as a primal instinct took over his mind and body. His skin started to turn scaly and black, his eyes started to glow with a golden light, his teeth started to sharpen and grow, his nails started to turn into claws, his hair started to stand on end and change color, his clothes started to rip and tear, his muscles started to bulge and expand, his bones started to crack and reshape, his wings started to sprout from his back, his tail started to emerge from his spine.

His peak middle-class strength kept pushing out of him at an alarming rate, turning more and more into high-class, but there was something else in it, something poisonous to his aura, almost as if a magical aura could poison someone with its mere material presence.

Before things could get from bad to worse, Leif walked forward and hugged the boy, ignoring the pain the boy's magical aura was causing him until he was close to him to hug the boy.

"Thomas, Thomas, it's okay. It's okay. She didn't mean it. She was trying to scare you. She wouldn't hurt your family. She can't hurt your family. No sane devil, wizard or Satan forbid, angels would let her hurt your family. You have to trust me, Thomas. You have to calm down, Thomas. You have to breathe, Thomas."

He just like Touji, saw the boy as part of his family and so, Leif feared that Thomas would lose himself and if he let himself be devoured by his anger… Wild magic was dangerous, but magic fueled by pure and raw anger was disastrous.

As for Sirzichs's wife, the bloody maid had made a grave mistake, a mistake that could have cost them everything. Truth be told, he was sure that Amelia Bones would have him meet here somewhere neutral to explain why a young wizard almost died. Nevertheless, that was for the future, and while Grayfia had acted out of anger and pride, without thinking of the consequences, no one, not even him knew that the boy could become like this… No, he knew, his daughter told him about the fight against that youkai… but to think that his sacred gear was so… powerful was not something he had ever thought.

Ignoring the worried look of her daughter, he hugged Thomas tighter and felt his body relax slightly. Slowly, the boy's body returned to normal. His scales fade and his wings retract. Looking closer at the boy, Leif heard his breathing slow down and his heartbeat steady, which allowed him to breathe out in relief.

"That's it, Thomas. That's it. You're doing great. You're doing great."

A few tense minutes later, Thomas finally returned to his human form before falling asleep. He looked peaceful and innocent as if nothing had happened and as soon as the boy's body was about to fall, Leif took the boy in his arms and walked towards his daughter, who was waiting for him with a worried expression.

"Grayfia, you have made a terrible mistake today. You have threatened the life of a human wizard, who is underage."

He paused before looking at her expression. Long gone was the cold and calculative face of the strongest queen.

"Do you know what will happen next? The Ministry of Magic will have a field trip bleeding us race dry for compensation. They will demand an apology and an explanation from you and your husband. They will impose sanctions and restrictions on all of our dealings in the United Kingdom, and if that isn't enough, that old monster might even pay a visit to Sirzichs. They will not let this go easily, Grayfia. They will make us, all of the devils pay for your folly."

After saying that, he turned away from her and nodded at his daughter. They both disappeared inside of a magic circle, along with the unconscious boy, leaving behind a shocked maid and two heiress and their peerages looking worried.

By now even Rias realized just how big of an idiot she had been. If only she stopped Kiba, they wouldn't have been in this situation.

As for Sona, she would remind herself to talk with her sister about this. Strongest queen, and wife of Lucifer or not, Serafall will have to hear about this.

However, the one who had been the most affected by the whole ordeal was Kiba, who since he got easily defeated by a mage in melee, could only look at his shaking hands.
