Eva walked into the sitting room, only to spot a young man sitting in the dining room and eating what seemed to be Kimchi and rice.
Eva swallowed her saliva at the dish, and the aroma of the soup gradually sank into her nostrils, followed by the rumbling sound in her belly.
She greeted the man.
He looked like he was in his thirties. To be exact, he could be eight years older than her but for some reason, her mother dotted him and wanted both of them to have a relationship, however, he didn't seem interested and fortunately, she wasn't also.
Oh, she forgot to add, he also seemed like a potential husband, some day, she would ensure to have a private talk with him and then talk him into having a relationship with her friend, Ruby.
Eva nodded as she decided that Ruby would turn out to be a perfect match for him. She already pictured Ruby in her wedding dress, throwing a bouquet and then ending up catching it.
Well, the bad side was that she wasn't ready to get involved with any man, so she imagined herself throwing back the bouquet to the bride and the bridesmaids ending up walking her away from the hall.
Realising she had zoomed off into a far different universe, she internally called herself back, however she found it hard to control herself. It was as if she was drifting gradually into unconsciousness.
She couldn't move a limb.
Mrs Lee stared at her daughter, a huge frown visible on her face but Eva overlooked it because right now, it was as if she wasn't in the sitting room. Different moving images came towards her instead.
First of all, it was an appearance of a palace, where there were different people dressed in the olden days attire and then, another image came forth, showing the inner part of a palace which she assumed to be the king's hall.
Unfortunately, she was wrong since what she saw in the inner part of the palace were different people dressed in black. She couldn't see their faces because their faces were graced with masks.
"Geneva... why are you standing there like a statue? I thought you are late for the interview." Her mother's voice betraying annoyance and wonder brought her out of her subconsciousness.
"Ganeva... I bought you some pears," Ji Hyuk's voice thickened the air.
"I don't eat pears," was her short reply. Her mind kept wandering to somewhere else entirely. She couldn't help but wonder why since she clocked age twenty five, different weird things had began to showcase themselves. It was as if...as if someone had pushed her into an apartment where bad luck only reigned.
The man looked at Ganeva's mother before he replied, "But your mother told me you do, so I thought of buying some."
"Don't mind her, son, she is just being cheeky. I will take them to the kitchen, she will eat them with the peels if you let her."
"Mum!" Eva groaned and then frowned as the man seemed to have stopped eating his food.
"I can give you a ride."
"I am sorry sir, I will just board a cab. You just finished eating and should I be the cause for your indigestion, Geneva's mum would eat me raw," she laughed, awkwardly.
"No need to be too formal. I'm Ji Hyuk."
"I know, mister. Mother seems to be very fond of you," Eva said, looking at her mother whose gaze was now fixed on her.
"I am late for work, mister. Bye! Enjoy your lovely and sweet, Kimchi. Thanks for the pears anyway, I love pears actually!" Eva shouted as she ran out of the house.
"She is true, cheeky," Ji Hyuk said, dropping the keys he already took and letting himself surf further into the delicacy in front of him.
"Yes, son. But I believe she has everything a man needs in a wife. She cooks well, she has potential and she is indeed gorgeous," Mrs Lee was ready to talk more about the good side of her daughter, however, soon enough she remained silent, there was truly nothing good about her. But then she lied, knowing so well that the gentleman was enjoying the dish, "She cooked the food."
"Wow?"
"Yes, my son. She is a really good cook. I'm sure she would be good in other aspects anyway," a cheeky smile tugged Mrs Lee's cheeks.
Understanding what she meant, Ji Hyuk responded, "Ma'am, she is just a younger sister to me. I don't think of her that way."
Mrs Lee smiled and then sat on the chair, leaning closer to him, "Son, things don't happen suddenly. You are a very nice man and you have all the qualities that I want in a son. If you don't think that way, why not start to think of that now? I am very sure if you can try her, she wouldn't take much time to like you. She loves charming men." She paused and said, gesturing, "Just buy her pears regularly and then envelopes, she is gone."
"Envelopes?" Ji Hyuk asked, surprised.
"Yes, she is old-fashioned but that is her only 'but'."
Ji Hyuk laughed at Mrs Lee's words before he kept on with his food. "If you say so, ma'am."
"No, call me mother," Mrs Lee nodded while Ji Hyuk only smiled.
However, as Eva ran out, she looked over at her wrist again.
She was late!
She was supposed to get there by 7:45 am and it was already 7:56 am, it would take her about five minutes to get to Aweseong Corporation by cab and then she would be sixteen minutes late.
She just hoped she didn't get bullied for coming late. However, if such a thing happened, she was very sure her skill in taekwondo would come at hand. However, she had no idea that taekwondo might not work on a gang of huge men.
