I walk quietly through the crowded hallways of my school, head held low staring at my own shoes. I Keep thinking about yesterday and that guy, did I hallucinate him? I might have been pushed back by the wind and hit my head on something and passed out.
I let these thoughts swim around in my head until I heard a loud cheerful familiar voice. "Hanako!! There you are!" I hear my friend Hina yell across the hallway.
She runs towards me and grabs both of my hands, I look at her surprised. "Guess what?" She yells.
As soon as she spoke those words to me I knew what she was about to talk about, her crush. "What?" I say unenthusiastically, rolling my eyes. I walked beside her while she talked and rambled about him.
Hina is my best friend, my only friend. I was born weaker than others, unable to practice or do any physical activities that most of my peers can easily do.
We actually met on a playground when we were both toddlers. She helped me up after falling from a swing and she never left my side ever since. She cares for me and helps me with normal tasks I'm incapable of doing, like cleaning duties and even walking back home after school.
Although she can be loud and obnoxious at times, I can't see myself spending a normal school day without her.
As she rambled on about her crush, I couldn't stop thinking about my failed suicide attempt. Of course, I couldn't tell Hina about it, she'd panic and get me in trouble. So I kept it to myself.
That tall ominous man with long horns, was that really a demon? His face was stuck inside my head as I tried to analyze it. His gorgeous red eyes, his fangs that appeared when he spoke to me. Yup he's definitely a demon, there's no denying that. But was he even real?
We reached our destination, the classroom. Me and Hina were in separate classes. So I had to go through this alone, every day. She hugged me and ran away, I smiled and walked inside.
School was always a pain, Hina certainly made things better, but still. Everyone hated me, including the teachers. I get called weird names a lot, and sometimes even beaten by some vile evil girls in the bathroom.
The days in my life go by fast, every day is the same as the one before, bad. I meet with my half-brother, Theo at the school gates. He gives me a cold side stare and a teasing smile as his private chauffeur parks, picking him up and leaving.
I didn't have a private chauffeur as my brother did, and I have to take a 45-minute walk home every day. My parents never really cared about me, they never bought me clothes, fancy jewelry, or electronics. I always got the short end of the stick.
I got back to my house, got into my room, and locked the door behind me. I threw my bag on the floor and threw myself on my bed, head facing the ceiling.
Tears began to fall down my eyes and I couldn't stop it this time. Why didn't I die yesterday? What happened?
As soon as these questions raided my mind, the demon boy's words rang in my ears, "Don't do that ever again." But why? Who cares anyway? No one ever cared about my existence, and my death will cause no harm to anyone around me, maybe Hina might be sad but she'll move on a week or 2 later.
Tears started falling harder down my face, I sobbed and sobbed. No one is coming for me, no one will save me.
"You know, you should stop crying. You look stupid."
What? Who was that? I got up, still sitting down on my bed, and looked around my room, wiping my tears. "Who- who's there?!" My jaw dropped.
Grayish black fog appears and out of nowhere, he immerges in the smoke. That demon from yesterday! He walks towards me and I panic. I couldn't even move.
He bends down, his face getting closer to mine while he tucked his hands in his pockets, he was wearing a red and black jacket with black pants. "Stop crying." He says with an annoyed tone.
I stare into his eyes, unable to speak. His facial expression changed from an annoyed expression to a confused one. "Aren't you going to say anything?" He stands up straight again and walks a few steps back, still facing me.
I finally stand up, blink and close my mouth still not breaking the eye contact between us. "What... are you?"
He smiles brightly and steps closer placing one of his hands on my shoulder "I satan~" he says, teasingly.
My eyes widen and I step back, the back of my legs hitting the bed I was sitting on. "What...?" I whimper. He laughs loudly, letting go of my shoulder. "You idiot! Did you seriously believe that?" He says between chuckles.
I stare at him blankly, waiting for him to explain himself. Did he really think this was funny? He finally finishes laughing, smiles and says calmly. "My name is Ryu, your new guardian."
