Within days, whole villages were burned down and hundreds of people died. A conclusion was soon reached, the culprits were neither bandits nor Noterozo, but Orks.
"Orks so deep into our lands? How did they get past the Resilient Fortress? The Antistasi family sent nothing to warn us...so it's easy to assume they somehow bypassed the border walls." Endrick was arguing with Josh, as usual about him, but this time his wife, the Baroness Linda, was there too.
"Surely the Count will want an explanation for all this, from the Antistasi family." says Linda, drinking a cup of hot tea, carefully prepared by our head nurse.
"Actually it seems that the count himself is heading towards the fortress to ask for explanations." A band of Orks in these lands, and no one has noticed such an incursion, I smell burning.
"The Orks are not renowned for their tactical acumen, they are eager to get into the fray, even if this can cause huge casualties in their ranks. But that doesn't mean they are stupid, after all they adapt quickly, and have an unnatural intuitiveness when they learn. But to do that requires someone who has a lot of experience dealing with such events repeatedly…or a thought in mind, which I wouldn't want to come true." I rub the stubble on my chin, reflecting on past events.
"You don't mean a warchief, I hope. A warchief hasn't been seen in centuries, the last one was two hundred years ago." Josh guess what I was thinking but can't be sure.
"A warchief? but to be born such an orc must face a multitude of battles, overcome a great number of challenges posed by their shamans, and go through the rite of the Mak'Roga. Do you think anyone has succeeded?" Linda seems worried about such an event, but I can't blame her, if such an Ork existed... nobody knows what we would have to face.
"But if such an ork existed, shouldn't Antistasi's scouts have known of the advent of a Warchief? After all, how could such a figure go unnoticed." Josh looks at me, expecting an answer.
"Maybe, but remember he's not just any ork, his potential is almost unlimited, once he passes the Mak'Roga, an ork can acquire a talent, perhaps even higher than our king's bloodline. Remember that to bring down the last Warchief, he took all the might of the realm... while it was still united." How did we get to this? our realm was far more powerful when it wasn't divided as it is now, all the fault of the vainglory of noble blood and the bravado of mankind.
"And right now this warchief is in these lands?" Linda asks concerned.
"Impossible, what we're dealing with is a Warlord, a vassal of the Warchief, if the latter exists. If I were him, I'd send a platoon of scouts to test the waters." I try to think of what an Ork would do, which is a bit tricky.
"But the question always remains, how did they get here without alerting anyone?" Josh asks the initial question, which we were all giving weight to.
"They certainly don't fly, they don't even dig, after all they aren't dwarfs or rats, and even if they did that tactic it would take years to pull it off. They're not famous shipwrights, so don't "I think they came by sea. Maybe their shamans altered the Astra in some way?" I pose some hypotheses, seeing the reaction of the two people who work alongside me.
"Ahhhh evils don't come by themselves, was it supposed to happen just now? We are already engaged in a guerrilla war with the sister kingdom to the west." Linda sighs.
'Hecate's twin realm, ehhhh, she speaks of Noleurian. It was once part of Hecate's kingdom, but after the warchief's earlier defeat, it seceded from the kingdom… for reasons unknown to us.Thus starting a fraticidal war that still lasts today, but for the moment the situation has calmed down'. What did our ancestors do at that time to cause this.
"Would it be better to inform the count of this information?" Linda proposes, but I don't think it's the case, after all it's just guesswork, and then we don't like the count's family.
"No, there is no point in contacting the earl, it would only put us in a negative situation, we will do nothing for the moment. My five baronets have reported nothing, nor have my envoys in the remaining five villages. Apparently the Orks are not still come here." For the time being we are out of reach of such beings… but that won't last forever.
"Hey, Jeff did you hear? Apparently a band of orks has trespassed on the kingdom, all the nobles in this region are anxious." I look at the boy who is on the bed next to mine, as the moonlight enters the bedroom window.
"I've heard, but they are concerned about the loss of their possessions and assets, not ordinary people like us who work under them." Jeff turns to me, looking sorry.
"We are the expendable ones…it's always been like this, who knows how it feels to be in their place? Have you ever thought about it?" Jeff arches an eyebrow.
"Why should I? It's a waste of time after all, we'll never be like them, we're just farmers. Stop thinking about these things, Darion, start sleeping. It's not like a band of orks will blow your work tomorrow, Good night ." Jeff turns around, starting to snore.
'How grumpy, what did he do? He's been acting weird since after dinner. Oh well, I won't think about it now, I'll ask him tomorrow.' He closes his eyes, trying to sleep.
'What... what is this place?' right now I find myself in a black space, everything around me is black. I'm lying on what appears to be a solid platform, but as I look down I find the same darkness around me. 'It's like you're lying on the ground, but this surface resembles the lake-like body of water.'
I get up trying to understand what surrounds me, I remember that I fell asleep in my room and now I'm here. 'Don't tell me!! Did I unconsciously use teleportation magic? this is how my power is awakened and in the future i will be a famous magician such an amazing talent with beauties that will sleep in my bed...*sigh* i wish it were but it's nice to dream once in a while. ' I start walking in this place.
I walk and walk and walk but I get nowhere. 'I feel like I'm walking around getting nowhere. No, I feel more like I'm always in the same place.' I'm starting to get bored with this situation, when suddenly a light comes down from the dark sky. A spark of mixed colored light, from yellow to blue, from light blue to purple, is inside this colored spark, I seem to see what I recognize as a starry sky. 'How nice...' is my last thought.
