Chapter 13 - Chapter 13... Disappointment

Joanna opened her eyes as the morning sun lit up her room through the blinds. She stretched and felt a muscular build by her side. She turned and realized that David was still in her bed and it dawned on her that he didn't leave.

Joanna's heart crashed loudly in her chest as she took in David's sleeping form, his chest rising heavily as he breathed. An adorable frown was on his face and his long hair fell messily onto his forehead. She could see his toned muscles as he did not have any shirt on. Her mouth hung slightly open at the sight of his arms, the tanned golden skin contrasting with the subtly bulging veins. She couldn't stop herself and ran her finger over his hair moving it aside as it was covering his face.

A smile crept up on her face as the memory of the night before came back to her. David had been elated when he realized that she was still a virgin and was so gentle with her. Even though she felt betrayed by her thoughts, she was glad that it was David and not Jasper who deflowered her.

Joanna was grateful to Doctor Pine for giving her a day off. After what happened between her and David, she wanted to use her day to learn about him, after all, he was her husband and they would be living together forever. It was part of their wedding vows. She would start by getting him breakfast.

Joanna tried to get down from the bed without waking him but it felt like her body was trapped by a huge weight over her legs and halfway up her torso. Their legs were tangled. David muttered and draped his arm around her. He leaned against her heavily and she blushed at the proximity.

"David" Joanna called softly.

"Nessa" David muttered sleepily, a smile lighting up his face and he opened his eyes to find Joanna staring at him with widened eyes. He was surprised and tried to get away from her as fast as he could but the tangled legs between them didn't help. He finally got away and stood up, picking his shirt from the floor.

Joanna felt a bit disappointed as he called someone else's name instead of hers. Was last night not special to him? She sat by the bed and watched him dressed, a scowl replacing the smile she was getting used to on his handsome face.

"About last night" Joanna blushed but was abruptly interrupted by David.

"Was a mistake" He said curtly. Joanna stared at him. She couldn't believe her ears.

"I beg your pardon?"

"Last night was a mistake" David repeated, his face expressionless. "Do not think anything of it"

David was standing before her, his long hair hiding part of his face. He looked devilishly handsome and her heart contracted.

Joanna's eyes filled with tears as the sting of his words hurt her. How could he say that? Was she just there to while away his time? Last night was perfect for her. It was the best and he ruined it.

"Get out," Joanna said bitterly.

"I am sorry Joanna but we shouldn't have done it"

"Get out, damn you!" Joanna yelled. She didn't know she had much venom in her. She watched as David hesitated before leaving.

"No! No! No!" She chanted. How could she be so stupid? She thought what they had was the beginning of a beautiful marriage but she was used as a one-night fling.

Joanna couldn't control her pain as she changed into her trousers and picked up her phone. She wore her boot and descended the step carelessly and not caring if she fell or stumbled, she ran out of the house. She needed a run and needed to be far away from David.

She connected her headphone and ran but his thoughts kept rummaging through her mind. The way he held her, his warmth, the way his muscles felt, and his lips.

'Asshole' she thought. Now was not the time to think about him.

The Music playing through her headphones abruptly stopped when a ping sound notifying her of a message sounded. Joanna stopped and put her hands on her knees while trying to labor her breath.

She stood and brought out her phone from her pants pocket and checked. It was a new number and the message written was simple.

Sorry for being insensitive. I didn't mean that

Joanna scoffed. The message told her who it was but instead of feeling better that he apologized she felt bitter.

Who was he to feel so much of himself? He had her number but he never once called after he disappeared for a week and dared attack her when she came back from work. He even went further to make love to her and called it a mistake. A simple sorry would not cure that.

The running wasn't working as she was getting angrier by the minute. Joanna quickly turned around and went back home. She was given a day off by Doctor Pine but she knew she just had to go back. She couldn't stay home or she would go crazy. Nothing would give her Joy than being close to little Tyler.

"Ma'am" Mary stopped Joanna before she climbed the stairs leading to her room.

"Yes, Mary?" She turned to her.

"Breakfast is ready"

"I am sorry Mary but I don't think I will stay for breakfast. I need to take a quick shower and be at the hospital" Joanna smiled apologetically.

"Alright Ma'am, I will make your bath right away" Mary offered.

"No, no, no" Joanna shook her head. "I want to have a cold shower. I will be fine. Is there anything else?"

"Yes, Ma'am. Mr. David said he will be joining you for Dinner. What do you want me to make?"

"Huh?" Joanna's eyes popped out in surprise. Why would he want that? Was that another way of humiliating her after what he did that morning? Was the message he sent to her a ploy to get her off guard? No, she won't let him play with her emotions.

"No, I will make him dinner myself" She lied to Mary. "You know what? You and the rest should have a day off. I will take care of everything" She grinned.

"Are you sure Ma'am?" Mary asked. She looked unsure.

"Of course I am. Since we got married, we haven't had the chance to spend some time together. I can manage" Joanna winked at Mary and hoped that the woman would not be able to see through her lie. She had no intention of spending one minute with him. She planned to avoid him at all times. He was cruel by telling her the best night of her life was a mistake to him.

"Alright Ma'am," Mary said. "But if you need anything, just call me".

"Thanks, Mary" Joanna replied and ran up the stairs to her room.
