Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Ivan's POV

Ok, that wasn't as easy and as difficult as I had expected. Either way, am glad she agreed.

"Shall we proceed to sign it now"?

Her eyes widened at my question. "You have it right here?".

I nodded and handed the contract to her. "And I brought a pen".

"Well, let us proceed right away", She sighed as she stepped towards the light.

I realized she had done so because it was quite dark and we needed light to sign this. But that wasn't the only thing I realized, I had realized her features. She was beautiful.

I was pulled out of my trance by her voice interrupting me from analyzing her features.

" Hey, come on"

I walked toward her and sat down on the bench beside her.

I handed her a pen and the contract along with something she could write on.

I was surprised when she didn't read it and headed to sign it immediately.

" Aren't you gonna read it first?"

She chuckled and somehow I liked the sound of it. " You aren't going to sign my soul so I am not going to waste my time reading it"

I wanted to smile but I didn't, I just nodded my head to look professional and collected the paper to include my signature.

She inhaled deeply and said in a light whisper, "So this is it".

I wanted to tell her, it was for just a short period and she shouldn't be overwhelmed but I said instead," "We have to proceed to the court right away to do a court marriage"

"Right now!!", she gaped at me.

I nodded and stood up from the bench.

" Am sorry it's so soon but it's for the best, I hope you understand".

She nodded her head slowly and stood up.

"Your right, let's get on with this".

I walked towards my car expecting her which she did but she stopped when I finally reached my car.

"Am not getting in there, I might stain your sit or something", she said while shaking her head.

I sighed and walked towards her.

" It's just a car, not a sacred tool, so please can you get in okay".

She nodded.

I turned back and headed back to my car opening the passenger seat for her to get in.

"Thank you Mr. Xander", she said nervously.

" Please call me Ivan, Hazel"

***

I started at the marriage certificate in front of my hand, it was enough evidence for the court to get my sister's custody.

I turned towards Hazel and noticed how quiet she was, she seemed so distraught about something.

I cleared my throat and she immediately turned to me.

"Take a look at it, you know just to make sure".

She nodded and collected the paper from me and her eyes glued to it.

She sighed for a moment before handing it back to me.

"You know you have to move in with me right away to make things seem more real", I suddenly said changing the atmosphere.

Her response was quite shocking, she laughed.

"Oh yeah, that's a big relief"

I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion and she answered my question although I didn't ask.

"I am supposed to be kicked out to the streets tomorrow", she said.

Before I could utter a word she quickly added, "But we'll have to go back tonight to get some things and say my goodbyes then tomorrow, you will decide where I will meet you".

"Hazel, you know I can just pick you up right instead of waiting for you to walk down with your bags to meet me at a scheduled place", I said calmly. "Besides you don't seem to have a dollar to order a cab"

She turned away in embarrassment. "Yeah, I know"

"So where do you live?", I asked. "I have to drop you home tonight so you could pack and I could know where you live".

" 55 Diamond Street, apartment 3".

I nodded my head that was quite an expensive place to live.

After that, we didn't say anything to each other till we reached her place.

She came down before I did and walked to her door.

"You can come in, my place is quite a mess but I could still offer a glass of water for you to drink"

I wanted to decline but for some reason, I also wanted to come in.

"It's okay, a glass of water will do".

She then opened her door and walked right in with me close behind.

She was right, her place was a mess. But I couldn't blame her, she was going through a lot to care about how the place looked.

" Told you so", she said as though she had read my thoughts.

I watched her exit to the kitchen, probably to get me a glass of water.

I walked towards a portrait of a little girl beside a woman that looked much like Hazel.

" Here is your glass of water, Sir Ivan"

I tore my gaze away from the portrait and looked at her.

"Thank you", I said collecting the water which I finished in a quick gulp.

" So the woman in the portrait, she looks so much like you", I said bringing up the portrait I saw. "A relative"

She looked up at the portrait and I saw something like pain flash through her eyes. " My mother".

" I am sorry", I said quickly realizing I might bring up a sensitive topic.

She smiled, "It's okay".

I followed her gaze to the portrait which now confirmed to me was her when she was little and her mother. She was quite a cute child and she was still now but more beautiful.

Wow, why did I think of that?

I dropped the empty glass of water on a table beside me and she quickly turned to look at me.

" I' m sorry I didn't give you something more like you, you know…."

I didn't let her finish her statement.

" Thank you, Hazel, the water was just what I needed".

I turned away and walked toward the door and she quickly strode to the front of me.

" Let me open the door for you, Mr. Xander",

I sighed and gently removed her hands from the doorknob opening the door myself.

I looked at her one last time before I turned to leave.

"Goodnight Hazel, and please for the last time call me Ivan, just Ivan".

She smiled and said to me not replying to my goodnight, " I will try to work on that"

I know she didn't tell me goodnight but that final smile she offered me before I left was enough for me and I don't know why.

Crazy right?
