Chapter 1 - Birth

Like any other child, I was in my mother's womb for nine months and all I know is that when I was out, I didn't do much for a while other than eat, cry, play....mmm... oh and poop, much like a pet really. By the way, my name is Desire. I do relish talking about the day I was born and reminiscing about all the events that conspired on that day, at least the ones they told me about. Let me tell you some.

About the process of birth, my mother says it was unbearable and uncomfortable, much like the whole nine months of pregnancy. However I'm happy she endured it or else I would not be here. For my dad, the process wasn't any fun for him either. I remember him telling me about how he nervously and anxiously paced back and forth in the hospital hallway because he says he did not have the guts to watch the delivery, and who would blame him?

After hours of horrific pain and screaming for ma mom and uncontrollable anxious pacing for my dad, I was on earth. A bouncing white girl.

Back at our place, in our absence, preparations were underway. Most of the relatives were out and about in preparation for the new born child, me. There was joy all over and my parents kept the joy going by not making them wait long. A few hours after I was born, we were discharged and we went home as soon as possible.

At home we were warmly welcomed. Bill my twelve-year-old cousin by then caught sight of us first. He warned the rest who all rushed to get a suitable spot to hide with the intention on giving my parents the surprise of their lives and that is exactly what they did. My father, shocked out out of his pants, exclaimed

"What the....

Cara, what is going on!?"

Cara, my father's older sister, was the only one he and my mom expected to find home. She had come a few days earlier to help my mother out while she was away and she had taken the initiative to prepare a small family gathering in celebration of their achievement, however she wanted to keep it a surprise and so she left them in the dark.

My parents, though startled, agreed that what she did was very sweet and that they deeply appreciated her sacrifices. I was the mood killer at the time because the eruption of cheerful sounds drove me to an outburst, just like any other child would.

After a while, the little part was done and almost every one had left, but all could agree that it was certainly memorable.

All in all, that is the sketchy image I could paint on the day that a one Desire Meridith Steinfeld was born and telling it always warms my heart.
