The door clicked behind them, and a feeling of loneliness filled her. She wiped a tear from her eyes as the door opened and the nurse walked in.There was instant concern on her face when she saw Caylee's tears. "Are you okay, honey?""Yes.""You tell me if you need anything. Let's get the IVs out and clean you up a bit. I think you'll be out of here by tonight.""That would be wonderful." Just being home with Nolan would help her feel a lot better."I've got some scrubs for you to wear. I thought you'd like that better than wearing a robe home."Caylee smiled. "I would, thank you."After the nurse took all the IVs and tubes off her, she pulled her to a sitting position."How does that feel?"Caylee was a little dizzy at first, but that quickly went away. "I'm good.""Do you have to use the restroom?" the nurse asked."Yes. Can I take a quick shower, too? I'm itchy all over.""Let's see how you do standing, and we'll see."They got her to her feet, and she took a few steps. Her ankle hurt, but she could still put her weight on it."How are you feeling?""I'm good.""Then let's get the bandages off. I'll reapply them after your shower.""My stitches can get wet?" Caylee asked."Yes. You can't soak them, but you can get them wet. There's a shampoo with conditioner and soap in the shower. Would you like me in there with you?""No, I can do it.""Too bad your boyfriend wasn't here."Caylee nodded. She also wished Nolan was there to help her, but she knew she could do things independently. They got her naked and into the shower. The warm water felt wonderful, and she took her time washing, careful of the knot on her head. The nurse helped her dry off because her one arm ached, and then she got into the scrubs. Caylee was carefully combing her hair when another nurse walked into the room."Good news, we got your papers done, so you can leave whenever you are ready.""That's wonderful," Caylee said and listened as the nurse went over the aftercare.Caylee signed the papers and gave them her information to send the hospital bill. She was afraid to see it because she knew it would be a lot, and it would take her years to pay it off. It was something she'd worry about later. She looked at the phone on the nightstand. Who could she call? She didn't know Nolan's number or Jonah's. She dialed information and then asked for the number for The Safe Haven."Hello, I wondered if you could give me Nolan Hammond's phone number?""We can't give out personal information.""Can you get Lacey on the line?""She's not here.""How about Cason?""No, I'm sorry.""Is Dustin there?""I'll see."The woman came back in a minute. "No, he's not answering.""Okay, thank you."Caylee sat on the side of the bed and stared out the window. She didn't know who else to call, and they wouldn't let her leave without knowing someone would be with her. Her gaze fell on the card the FBI agents gave her.She picked it up and dialed."Sanchez.""Oh, um. Hi.""Caylee?" the man said."Yes.""What are you doing, honey?""Well." She blinked back her tears. "I can't find anyone to take me home.""Where's Nolan?""I don't know. He hasn't come back after he left when you were here. I asked to take a taxi, but they won't let me. I've called everyone else I can think of. I don't know what to do.""We're not far, so we'll be there in a few minutes.""Thank you."Caylee waited with her hands in her lap, praying for Nolan to return. When the door opened, she tried to smile when the agents walked in.They came and stood in front of her."Hi, sweetheart. You look a little better," Richards said."Hello, Agent Richards and Sanchez. I feel better. The shower felt good.""Who helped you with that?""The nurse."She saw the men glance at each other."What about the guards outside of the room? Could they have taken you home?""I don't even know their names. I was afraid to ask them or to go with them.""Where are we taking you?" Sanchez asked."Back to the condo," she said."The one you were attacked in?""Yes. I don't have anywhere else, and I don't have any money to pay for a hotel room. My friend Holly is in the same building, and she'll help me.""Let's get you out of here. I'll be right back with a wheelchair," Sanchez said. While he was gone, Richards helped gather up her things and stuff them into a bag the nurse had brought for her to use."Since we're friends now, why don't you call me Brodie? And remember, Sanchez's first name is Raul."She smiled. "I'd like that."Raul returned with a wheelchair, and the two men helped her into it. Raul pushed the chair, and after saying something to the guards outside the room and the nurses' station, Brodie walked beside her with her things. They made it outside, and the guys got her into the back of their car."Do you know where I live?"Brodie turned to look at her over the front seat. "Yes. We have all your information.""Okay." She settled in and stared out her window.
