The sun shines brightly as it peeks from the blue and white clouds formed like rabbits in the sky. It was that distant but he manage to kiss Frey Statterfield's cheeky face. The young lady was on her way to meet her fiancé at their favorite restaurant. Her black above-the-knee sundress suits her very well. The two inches of heels she wore added up to her petite height, while her ponytailed long black hair was swaying into the winds with little hum.
She was indeed stunning, her almond shape eyes had been fitted through her inborn-shaped eyebrows. Her thin lips had been painted with reddish lipstick she was abroad on vacation. Frey on her outfit doesn't look like she was thirty-one years old now.
She was slamming like a superstar.
Frey on her wheels drove almost one hour to reach Charles' house. The two was having their different home, that is what they talked about before having a marriage. She may be a nuts and bully lady since her high school days but she indeed values marriage as a sacred one.
She was rocking to the beat of her favorite boyband group, singing the latest album released just last month. She had memorized the lyrics to that period having a different language than hers. But her little happiness cut off when a call on the phone beeped into her earpiece.
It was a friend, Sandy. She unhappily answered it in annoyance, even raising her voice.
"What do you need? I am busy Sandy," she answered on the phone while her eyes were still on the road. Frey turns left following the route to San Diego Street, three streets away from Magdalene where her fiancé lives.
"Can you come and see me? Please, I need someone to talk to." Sandy mumbled on the other line, she was sobbing.
"I'm sorry there is this important matter that I need to do right now. Just call Ava, okay?"
"Frey—"
"I am hanging up, bye." After cutting her friends' voice on the phone she immediately pushes on the end button to her cellphone. She bitterly cursed and even call Sandy some names, she was pestered about the sudden call.
On the other hand, the protagonist did not know that her friend Sandy is in a down state and planning to take her life. And only her presence can loosen up the negativity in Sandy's pure heart on her. And the kind Sandy never knew that all along, the one she was serving her loyal friendship is fake to her. She was just being used to high up her grades Frey on college. And to make the business plans she needed for their family business.
Frey is a total badass.
REACHING the Magdalene Street, Frey excitedly got off and hug the man who was patiently waiting on his doorstep. The tall man with blue eyes and blonde thick hair is no other than Charles, her loved one.
He charismatically gave her fiancé a sweet and pure kiss he can on her forehead. The scene was just the same as the romance movies the latter had watched several times in the theaters. It was deeply idealistic.
The couple decided to sneak a tour before the wedding tomorrow. They were separated for almost three days, and the passion and love they had was killing them so badly. They decided to go get some rides to restaurants buy some swimming necessities and take a lodge in a hotel and SPA they know.
They wanted pure relaxation time.
However, while withdrawing some amount of the bills on her card, Frey got goosebumps from the back of her neck. An old woman, greasy and having a bad smell asked for some money to buy her food. But instead of giving some, she lure the old woman to an abandoned forest near the gas station with an ATM and a mini-store. She had given the woman hope that sooner or later her stomach will be full of delicious and decent food.
The whole world feels sorry for her, the protagonist is not capable of giving what she may not have. The woman loves seeing people go insane about the things they can't instantly have in life.
Laughing on the way to Charles, she waved the thick amount of paper bills in her hand. She even baby-talked about having a nice dinner on her bed. She wanted delicious and appetizing seafood.
The ambiance in Frey's car was comfortable just like her home. She feel safe being with Charles, she was like flying into the soft clouds of cotton candy.
"Hon, I am excited about the wedding tomorrow." She open up, leaning her back on the passenger seat and holding Charles's hand on her left.
"I know how you feel, don't worry after tomorrow we will have every time we have together. We'll gonna have our family, and build the dreams we planned." The man smiled genuinely at Frey. Her words directly sank into the lady with a not-so-good heart.
He was a good manipulator.
...
The day had passed so fast, it was around seven in the evening when the couple decided to find their way home. Their family was very much angry when they found out that they meet before the ceremony. Heading back, they were happily discussing the moment they had a while ago. Escapading, eating, and buying souvenirs from the resort was one of their goals. Frey was bragging about the beautiful dream catcher she bought, she wanted to display the item on the front door of their future house.
Charles, driving, smiled at Frey and tap on her head just like a puppy doing a good job.
Going back to the driveway, Frey now focuses her eyes on the front. It is when raindrops started falling on their windshield. The mood was cool and relaxing with a pair of music from the car's stereo. She could not imagine those things without Charles on her side, comforting and loving her.
She was used to glancing at Charles each time they were together. It was like an addiction to her and she loves it that much. Though his man was just managing the wheels, she can still see him as an attractive husband material.
But Frey's daydreaming has been cut off when a loud bang exploded into the roof of their car. She had straightened her back in the seat, checking the unexplainable commotion outside. It was not just a thing that had hit their car's roof, it seems that there are 'someone' fighting there. The movements are heavy and fast that her heart rate suddenly comes racing too.
"What was that?" She exclaimed with a tone of asking at her fiancé.
"Huh?" What are you talking about ?" replied Charles, throwing her a curious look with knitted brows.
The movement was getting louder than Frey was not expecting, as another jump banged into their roof, her heart frightened leap, too. She had hold on tighter on her side, securing her safety of hers.
However, as she threw a nervous look at Charles, her lover seems calm and unbothered.
Did he not hear it? Impossible!
She had shrunk up the grip of her hand on the car's arm when the sudden movement turned into a shake.
What is happening? Frey wanted to take a look what is the cause of the weird sound but she just can't. She did not want to take a risk of their life, so all she do was command Charles to speed up and focus on the way.
The astonished man just did what her fiancé asked, but there is this part of his head saying that Frey was being crazy at the moment.
He was eyeing the frantic Frey, delusional about the sound she was saying was on their roof.
In his ears, he hears nothing heavy, just the tears of the sky bumping into the back of the car.
But not just another minute, Frey now saw what things had been bothering her. Well, it wasn't just things, it was a lady in a black robe being chased by some unknown being in the middle of the cold and slippery road.
Frey, focused her eyes on the front, nervously, Never in her life she had witnessed this kind of action moment by anyone.
In just a flash of wind, the three creatures running on the side of their car going straightly on the road vanished. The two on the back seem chasing the girl who is eagerly saving her life.
Yet, what was Frey bothering most is their speed. Those creatures were at three times the speed of a normal human. Still, she was nosy about how can her bare eyes see every detail of them.
"Hon, what's wrong?" Charles asked, keeping her hand on his lap.
Trembling, Frey explains what she had seen. However, her man seems not to agree with her, he just pushes laugh and said to relax because sooner or later they will be home.
The woman nodded back as a reply, bent her body on the seat, and took a breath of inhaling and exhaling. Hence, the circumstances are not siding her, as a flashy light trapped their eyes in a close state.
Everything came to her mind instantly, she had thought first about what will happen to their plans if she or they died.
Her family, friends especially her most elegant life.
Unluckily, the surroundings were therefore filled with creaks and broken glasses. The flash of light turned into a deep darkness.
Frey shouted for the last time calling his fiancé's name. Then, in an instance, blood dripped into his head, and she fell into sleep.
***
The truth about what Frey had seen is this.
The identity of the three creatures is unlike the humans. The lady being chased was an escaped low-ranked Grim Reaper. The two on her back were Afterlife, ghouls, wanting to eat her soul. The lady reaper is luring the ghouls as she doesn't have much time, she needed to find a vessel to switch souls.
And not a moment later after hiding in the big tree of Mango, the lady heard a screeching sound of a car crashing from somewhere.
"H-help," the gasping voice of a woman came to her ears.
She thought, " I had found my new body.
