Jiang Yun felt helpless. Although he had been in this world for two months now, every time he reunited with Wenwen, something like today would happen. The last time it was the Xiao family, and now there was this Zhao Guanren and Chen Fu. Both seemed to be influential figures in Dai Cheng. It appeared that Jiang Yun might not be able to continue staying in Dai Cheng this time.
"Mother, I'm afraid we'll have to leave here again this time," Jiang Yun reluctantly told Wenwen. Even though the root cause of these issues wasn't him, trouble seemed to follow him wherever he went.
"It's okay. As long as you're safe, Mother is content," Wenwen gently replied, pulling Jiang Yun's arm and continuously assessing his appearance, mentioning how thin he had become.
Jiang Yun managed a smile and said, "Don't worry, Mother. With me around, no one will bully you anymore. By the way, Mother, isn't Grandfather's family in Wu'an City? I think we could go there to find him."
Suddenly, Jiang Yun remembered Wenwen's family, the Wen Clan, which was well-known in the Zhao Kingdom. Since staying in Dai Cheng wasn't feasible anymore, why not seek refuge with Grandfather? Additionally, Jiang Yun recalled that Lü Yao had told him about the Tianjian Sect recruiting disciples in Wu'an City.
Bringing up the Wen Clan was a strategic move by Jiang Yun. He had always been clear about his goal to pursue the pinnacle of martial arts. Knowing that Wenwen had been following him through trials and tribulations, he felt it was tough on her. His plan was to send her back to the Wen Clan, at least providing her a place of shelter where she'd be safer than staying with him.
Wenwen was also astute, and she caught onto Jiang Yun's idea when he mentioned the Wen Clan. However, Jiang Yun had been raised by her from a young age, and they had been relying on each other for the past few years. Even though she knew the current Jiang Yun wasn't the boy who needed to hide under his mother's wings anymore, parting was still difficult.
"Yun'er, Mother knows you have your own pursuits, and Mother won't hold you back. I just want to tell you, no matter where you go in the future, as long as Mother is there, it's home for you."
As Wenwen spoke, tears began to stream down her face. Jiang Yun's heart felt a pang, but he had to appear strong. He gently wiped away her tears with his sleeve.
"Mother, trust me. I'll come back to see you often," Jiang Yun choked out. He wasn't a saint. Even though he was determined in his pursuit of martial arts, facing Wenwen at this moment, he still felt powerless.
In no time, the two of them packed their belongings and went to the city's gate where a carriage was waiting. They were headed to Wu'an City. As they boarded the carriage, a group of soldiers entered the yard where Wenwen had been staying. All of them were dressed as Dai Cheng soldiers. The leader waved his hand, and the soldiers immediately began searching the premises.
After a while, one soldier came out to report, "Reporting to the captain, there's no one in the house. Based on the clues left behind, it's likely they've already left the city and gone away. They didn't leave behind any personal belongings."
The captain frowned and said angrily, "Come with me to the city gate to investigate. If you find anything, capture them immediately."
However, by this time, Jiang Yun and Wenwen had already traveled dozens of miles away from Dai Cheng in a horse-drawn carriage. The distance between Wu'an City and Dai Cheng wasn't too far. If they took the official road, it would take less than five days to reach Wu'an City.
It took Jiang Yun six days with the hired carriage to finally reach Wu'an City. After paying the driver, he and Wenwen headed straight for the Wen Clan. By the time they arrived at the Wen residence, it was already noon.
Staring at the gates that she hadn't seen for nearly twenty years, Wenwen felt a tinge of sentimentality. She stood at the entrance, unsure whether to enter or not. Just then, a man a few years older than her hurriedly came out from inside.
"Elder Brother."
Seeing this man with slightly graying temples, Wenwen couldn't help but call out. Tears flowed uncontrollably down her cheeks. It had been nearly twenty years since they had seen each other—the reunion was unexpectedly emotional.
The man, deep in thought, had initially planned to head out but suddenly heard Wenwen's voice. His body trembled slightly, and he turned to look at her. His hands trembled, and his eyes became moist.
"Younger Sister, it's really you. Why did you suddenly come back?" The man was moved, and after carefully examining Wenwen, he couldn't help but embrace his youngest sister, whom he had loved following him around when they were young.
"Uncle, hello, I am Jiang Yun." Jiang Yun introduced himself from the side, it seemed that this uncle had a close relationship with his mother, so he felt quite polite towards him.
This man's name was Wen He. Although he had planned to leave the house, unexpectedly encountering his sister after almost twenty years of separation caused him to be too excited to notice Jiang Yun. Only when Jiang Yun spoke did he realize that there was a refined young man standing behind Wenwen.
Wen He examined Jiang Yun and smiled, saying, "You look just like him, really resemble your father. But your eyes are like your mother's, just as bright."
Jiang Yun felt a bit embarrassed under Wen He's scrutiny. However, he remembered his main reason for coming here and spoke, "Uncle, don't you plan to invite my mother and me inside for a visit?"
"Right, right, right. Come in quickly. Forgive my momentary excitement. Come, let's go inside." Wen He awkwardly led them indoors.
Once inside, Jiang Yun realized that the Wen Clan's residence was quite large, comparable to the Jiang family's residence in Yanjing. However, it seemed that the Wen Clan was experiencing some decay. Many areas were not being maintained, indicating that the Wen Clan might be facing some difficulties.
After Wen He led Wenwen and Jiang Yun into the house, a woman who appeared to be around the same age as Wenwen rushed over. Her face carried both anxiety and bewilderment as she pulled Wen He aside and asked, "Why did you suddenly come back? How's Ting'er doing now?"
"I haven't had a chance to go yet. I just saw Wenwen return. Isn't it better to have her and her son come into the house first? I'll go and bring Ting'er back," Wen He replied.
All their conversation reached Jiang Yun's ears. It seemed that Wen He was facing some trouble. Since Jiang Yun planned to entrust his mother to the Wen Clan, it was appropriate to offer his help. However, he wasn't clear about the situation, so it was better to remain discreet for now.
Wen He walked over to Wenwen and said, "Younger Sister, you stay here for now. I'll have my wife entertain you. I have something urgent to attend to. Let's catch up tonight, and I'll have a drink with my nephew."
After speaking, Wen He hastily left. Wenwen asked Jiang Yun's aunt worriedly, "Sister-in-law, is something wrong at home?"
Jiang Yun also chimed in, "Aunt, did Uncle run into trouble? To be honest, I have some achievements in the martial path. If there's someone causing trouble, perhaps I could help."
Seemingly desperate due to the situation, Aunt Wen was eager to confide in someone. She looked at them and said, "Sigh, I'll tell you about it, but don't mention that I told you, or your uncle will definitely..."
