Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Spotlight

Rosalind walked up to the computer and turned it on. It was the first and obvious thing to do to her. She needed to find the lab notebook. Every scientist… a sane scientist should have one. The screen flickered to life, revealing a cluttered desktop with various folders and files. She wondered why there was a laboratory in this mansion. It seemed like an unusual addition to a family home. As the computer was starting to turn on she went ahead and looked at the journals. It was definitely old as the papers were yellowed from age. She opened it and read the beautiful handwriting.

"1612 … That's...very old" She frowned as she would read it…she furrowed her eyebrows. "Pheromones?" The computer beeped and she hurried over to go on in and frowned. It needed a password. Great.

As Rosalind's curiosity grew, she couldn't help but approach the fridge in the corner of the laboratory. She hesitated before opening it, not sure if she wanted to know what was inside. But her curiosity got the best of her, and she opened the fridge door.

Inside, she saw a row of small blue vials, each one filled with a clear liquid. She couldn't help but wonder what they were for. Were they some kind of potion or medicine?

Rosalind quickly grabbed the old journal and the blue vial, carefully tucking them away in the pocket of her dress, she knew they would come in handy. She made sure to leave everything in the laboratory exactly as she found it, not wanting to arouse any suspicion or leave any evidence of her presence. What could this vial be for? What kind of experiments were they conducting here? And who was the previous owner of the journal.

Rosalind took a deep breath as she made her way back to the ballroom, steeling herself for the inevitable awkward encounters with other werewolves. She looked around for a place to put the vial and spotted a waiter holding a tray with a few glasses filled with ice. "Excuse me," she said, walking over to him. "Could I please have a glass of ice?"

"Of course, ma'am," the waiter replied, handing her a glass of ice.

"Thank you," Rosalind said.

As Rosalind was lost in thought, she didn't notice the tall figure turning the corner until she had already collided with him. Rosalind stumbled backward as she collided with the male. Her heart raced as she struggled to regain her balance. She looked up to see him towering over her, his expression unreadable. "Oh, I'm sorry," she stuttered, taking a step back. "I wasn't looking where I was going." She made a face when she saw it was Matteo.

"Ah, Miss Rosalind, I'm sorry, I didn't see you there," he said with a polite smile, reaching out to steady her.

"You obviously did … " Despite her annoyance, Rosalind held her tongue and tried to move past him. But the man stepped in front of her, blocking her way. "Watch where you're going, little wolf," he growled, his tone dripping with condescension.

Rosalind bristled at his words, but she held herself in check.

He had always been kind to her before, yet now, after she found out about what he did…

"Do you have a problem with me?" Rosalind didn't mince her words, meeting Mr.Carreira's gaze.

"Well " He leaned in "You... aren't afraid?" As he stared at her.

Matteo continued to sniff the air around her, but to his surprise, he couldn't sense any fear emanating from Rosalind. He furrowed his brow in confusion. "After you learned about what I did?" he asked, still not understanding how she could stand there so calmly.

"No, I'm not afraid," she said. "You haven't hurt anyone, though it was a bit of an asshole move what you did there …"

Matteo chuckled at her response, causing Rosalind to feel even more uneasy. She couldn't tell if he was taking her seriously or not. "I see," he said, straightening up.

As he closed in on her, Rosalind could feel the heat from his powerful body. When he lifted her chin up, she felt a shiver run down her spine, but she tried her best not to show it.

"Why...I guess I was wrong about you...Miss Rosalind," he said, his voice low and husky. Rosalind felt her heart racing in her chest, but she tried her best to keep her composure.

"What do you mean?" she asked, her voice steady.

"I thought you were just like the rest of them...afraid of me " he said, his eyes piercing hers.

As he took her by the arm, Rosalind couldn't help but notice how handsome Matteo looked in his suit. She cursed herself for being drawn in by his appearance, despite her better judgment. But as he led her towards the ballroom.

Rosalind noticed they were heading to the ballroom and she started panicking. "Wait, I need to get something from my room"

Rosalind tried to pull away from Mr. Blanket's grip, but he held on firmly. "You can get it later," he said, continuing to lead her towards the ballroom.

Rosalind's heart was racing as they approached the crowded room. She could see Samantha standing by their table, looking around for her. She struggled to break free from Mr. Blanket's grip, but he held her firmly by the arm.

As Rosalind tried to back away, she realized it was too late. All eyes were on her and Mr. Blanket. The music stopped, and the guests fell silent, staring at them. She could feel her face flushing, and her heart racing with anxiety. What was happening? Why was everyone looking at them?

Matteo, on the other hand, seemed unfazed by the attention. He looked at Rosalind with a hint of amusement in his eyes and squeezed her arm lightly, guiding her towards the center of the room. Rosalind felt like a deer caught in headlights, but she had no choice but to follow him.

The male turned to the musicians and made a hand gesture, and within seconds, the music started playing again.

"Oh wait this is a horrible idea" Rosalind hissed at him. "I don't dance "

He chuckled softly at her remark, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Nonsense," he said. "Everyone knows how to dance. It's just a matter of letting yourself be swept away by the music."

Rosalind frowned, still feeling uneasy. "I really don't think this is a good idea," she said. "I'm not very good at dancing, and I don't want to make a fool of myself."

Matteo's smile widened. "Don't worry," he said, pulling her towards the dance floor. "I'll lead. Just follow my lead and you'll be fine."
