"Wait, this is a bit rude though…" She frowned at him , knowing they had everyone's attention, but Matteo simply pulled her close, pressing her body against his. She could feel his toned physique, and the warmth emanating from his body made her feel flustered. She tried to pull away, but he held her firmly.
"Just follow my lead," he whispered in her ear, his breath hot against her skin. "It's easy."
Rosalind could feel her heart racing as Matteo began to move, leading her in a waltz. As they moved she saw the crowd, how they stated, gawked as then she saw Emily, who looked sad. Hurt.
"Why are you doing this? This is Emily's important event" Rosalind gulped as she was trying not to be mesmerized by the male who held her.
"? Is that what you think…well she would let me do anything… seeing that thanks to me she got her mate" He whispered softly to her ear, it almost made her forget how to breathe.
"What do you mean…" As she gasped under her breath, as she was twirled. She could have sworn she saw him smirking as she spun. He was having fun, toying with her.
He got close to her ear again. "There are things best left unknown" and with that the music finished. She could feel a particular pair of eyes burning in her back. It was her brother's glare. Gabriel probably thought she betrayed him. There was a round of applause as one of the Carriera's walked to them, the Head of the family: Antonio Carriera.
"You must be Rosalind… "The older male hummed, and smiled at her.
"Ah yes…nice to meet you sir" She quickly straightened up and heard Matteo chuckle.
"Is she…" Antonio looked at Matteo, and she glanced at him.
"We won't know till the full moon," Matteo replied. "However… I do not think she is a werewolf as she was brought up to think" There were sudden gasps and whispers among one another.
"What is happening?" She was confused. Things were happening too fast. It felt as if she was just thrown into this chaos.
Matteo spoke louder and clearer so everyone could hear, as she also heard it for the first time.
"You my dear are no werewolf, but a Lycan"
She stared at him, and took a deep breath since she started to feel that strange rage within her again. It was coiling, much tighter than before.
"And you are an inconsiderate asshole" She spat as she turned, and walked on out of the ballroom. They made way for her as the whispers continued. No one came to grab her. She was hoping her family would… but his mother stayed silent, as well as her father. Neither her sister came over to defend her. She felt pain. It felt as if she was stabbed, cut open in public and they had left it open.
Rosalind's heart felt heavy as she walked back to her room. Her family had lied to her, and not even attempted to apologize. The weight of this truth was suffocating her. She would feel her breathing going faster.
How could they keep something so important from her for so long?
Her eyes were watering.
Did they not think she could handle the truth?
It stung, painfully inside of her.
Did they ever see her like family?
She sucked in a heavy shaky breath.
No even Samantha?
She needed time to process everything, so she took a deep breath and focused on not shaking.
She stopped shaking.
Slowly, one by one she regained her focus.
She is a Lycan. The full moon was tomorrow, but it was obvious she could not stay here.
Rosalind quickly gathered her things, changed into comfortable clothes and put her hair up in a ponytail. As she packed her bag, she couldn't help but feel hurt by her family's lies. She wondered why they hadn't tried to apologize or explain themselves. She felt alone and betrayed.
She grabbed her sister's perfume from the dresser and sprayed it over her own scent to make it more difficult for anyone to track her. Rosalind opened the window and slipped through it, careful not to make any noise. She looked down and saw the ground was several feet away, but there were vines growing up the side of the building. She grabbed onto one and began to climb down, her movements slow and steady.
Once she reached the ground, she took a deep breath and looked around. It was dark, but she could still make out the outlines of the trees and bushes in the garden. She knew she had to move quickly before they realized she wasn't crying in the room. There was chaos inside though. There were arguments, snarls, shouting, and she could even hear someone crying. She frowned, but found it hard to sympathize with the person that was crying. She looked at the cars available and picked the quietest. An electric car. She turned it on as the keys were inside and drove away quickly. The car glided smoothly on the road, making barely any noise.
Rosalind's heart was pounding in her chest as she drove the electric car as fast as she could. She knew that the Alpha could easily catch up to her if he wanted to, and that thought made her feel even more nervous. She needed to find a way to get rid of this car and continue her escape.
As she drove, she scanned the streets for a place to abandon the car. Finally, she spotted an alleyway with a dumpster and an empty parking spot. She quickly turned into the alley and parked the car, taking a deep breath as she got out.
Rosalind quickly pulled out her phone and called for an Uber. When the driver pulled up, she jumped into the back seat and told him to take her to the airport as fast as he could.
During the ride, she kept looking out the window, worried that the Alpha would somehow find her. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she imagined him chasing after her in his form. But she tried to push those thoughts out of her mind and focus on getting to the airport safely.
Finally, they arrived at the airport and Rosalind quickly paid the driver and got out of the car. She took a deep breath and felt a sense of relief wash over her as she made her way into the terminal.
Her phone started ringing. It was Samantha. She gulped. Not knowing whether or not to answer it. She needed time from her family, but also Sam was different. They were sisters…
Rosalind recalled how afraid Sam was towards Matteo, she wondered if what she was told was only part of the truth…
She answered the phone. To her surprise it was a dark velvet like voice.
"Where are you?" A deep husk, with a touch of worry, spoke.
"What are you doing with my sister's phone?" She grunted as she kept walking.
"Where are you?" He asked again, and she hung up.
Alpha or not, she wasn't going to put up with him.
She turned off her phone to avoid any possible tracking and to give herself some much-needed peace.
