Synopsis
"I'm sorry to tell you this, but your daughter's heart is failing," said the doctor, giving my parents an unemotional look. "Is there anything we can do," replied my mother, in hopes of finding a glimpse of hope. "At this time, no," replied the doctor, causing the shimmer in my mother's eyes to disappear. "We can only observe her situation." Tears rolled down her eyes as Mom looked back at me before rushing out of the room. I understood what the doctor said and somehow seemed unfazed that years of life could disappear in an instant. Warning this story does include topics not suitable for younger readers. Chapter 1 - My tiny little window

"There is no cure."

Those were the last words I heard before my life tumbled into turmoil. Maybe that's why some people exaggerate the fact of living life to the fullest since the gift of life can disappear at any moment.

"You've been getting better," said Doctor Kim as she checked off the boxes on her clipboard. Acknowledging my distracted mind, she tapped her pen, regaining my attention. "Why are you always staring out the window?"

Turning around to face her, I gave her a warm smile before turning my gaze back to the window.

"This is the only way I can see the outside world," I replied, my smile fading.

A deep sigh exited the doctor's mouth as she heard my words, exhibiting pity. For many months my only access to the outside world was a window.

The window was wide enough to allow me to see the birds yet small enough to see the world.

Yet all those months, I never complained. Instead, I sat quietly, staring out the same window. Now weirdly, a strange feeling of neediness started to arouse in me. I wanted to leave.

Standing up from my bed, I painfully made my way over to the bathroom. As I leaned over the sink, I analyzed my pale face. Brushing my fingers around my face, I diverted my gaze to my body. Lifting my shirt, I reveal lines of stitches swirling around my body.

Exiting my room, I slowly made my way to the cafeteria, gaining looks of pity from anyone who passed me.

"Ha-yoon, what are you doing ?" screamed Nurse Ji-a, noticing me.

Seeing my condition, she signaled another nurse to bring me to a wheelchair.

"Are you crazy," she asked, placing a blanket over my leg.

"I'm fine, though," I replied, a pouty look on my face.

"What are you talking about? You were practically leaning on the wall," she replied, anger slightly filling her tone. "You should be careful. Just because the surgery went well doesn't mean anything," replied Nurse Ji-a softly.

"I know," I replied, slightly annoyed. "Nothing is guaranteed."

Finishing my sentence, I wheeled down to the cafeteria, sitting at my favorite table. The cafe had the best view to enjoy the outside.

An unfamiliar face caught my attention as I turned to fix my gaze on the window. A lost and trapped soul-like mind wandering around with nowhere to go.

Disregarding his existence, I turned my gaze back to the passing cars driving along the highway.

"Hey," said an unfamiliar voice, causing me to turn around. A tall, dark-haired boy stood in front of me, holding two cups. "My name is Chan-yeol," he replied, a bright smile on his face.
