"I saw you staring at Sam," Mark started while dividing his attention between her and the road.
He hadn't drunk a lot at the party, so he was level-headed enough to drive them home even though he had to release the pressure on the speed pedal.
Elena only met his gaze briefly and then turned her head away like she did not know that she was supposed to explain the reason for her stares.
Seeing that she wasn't going to answer him, at least without a lot of persuasion from his own end, Mark made it a goal to get an answer out of her. So, he continued to press on.
"Was there anything wrong?" he inquired. "You seemed to be thinking deeply about something. Did Sarah say anything to you?"
Hearing him mention that name, Elena flicked a strand of hair behind her ear. "There is absolutely nothing wrong with staring at your friend, I believe."
"Do you like him?" Mark asked, meeting her shocked gaze. "Are you interested in him?"
