Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 : x2 Jump

Just as he had expected, Aaron was delayed for almost an hour due to traffic.

"Man, this sucks! So much time wasted. Maybe I should get a scooter or bike to ride. But the accident rate is just way too high here," complained Aaron as he was about to park his car.

After entering his home, he immediately used the microwave to reheat the dinner he had made earlier. He took a quick shower while waiting for the dinner to be ready.

Later, he changed into a comfortable t-shirt and shorts and went to grab the chicken rice, having his dinner at the small table in the kitchen. He wanted to explore the Gatcha app while having dinner, but he left his phone charging in the other room.

While eating his dinner, he read a book he had bought cheaply from a shady bookstore near his workplace. The book had no cover and was about improving one's life without saying anything. Surprisingly, Aaron enjoyed reading it.

Later, he went to his room to start exploring the app, but before that, he spent some time looking for the flyer he had put in his pocket earlier. However, it was gone. He even searched his car in case it had fallen there, but it was futile.

"Sigh.. Did I really leave it at the park.. It shouldn't just disappear like that, right?" muttered Aaron as he lay down on the bed holding his phone.

He tapped the 'item' and 'skill' tabs and was surprised to see a vending machine filled with plastic balls of different colors for both tabs. He also learned that he needed a specific token to roll or pull the capsule or egg out of the vending machine, and he seemed to have none for both tabs.

He was shocked when he opened the 'Daily Quest' tab because he had completed two out of three daily quests there. The first one required him to run at least 10KM, while the second quest required him to cook something decent.

The third quest required him to analyze at least three education-related journals and write a report essay about them. There was no way he could complete it today without sacrificing his personal time.

Anyway, he had just claimed two free tokens and realized that both were for rolling a "magical item" from the vending machine.

"I suppose there must be another way to obtain tokens for the 'skill item' roll. Sigh... I really need to finish the last daily quest before midnight. Let's just roll with these tokens for now. Who knows, I might get something useful. But based on the item drop rate, I doubt I'll get anything above uncommon," muttered Aaron as he examined the drop rate for a single token roll.

[Item Drop Rate]

Common(45%), Uncommon(35%), Rare(15%), and Legendary(5%).

He pressed the 'x1 roll' button under the 'magic item' vending machine, and it started shaking.

"Buzz buzz buzz"

The phone vibrated for a few seconds and stopped. A white-colored capsule popped out from the bottom of the machine.

He tapped the capsule, and it shone for a while, then it broke into two, and a pair of white-colored leather shoes appeared. The details about the shoes also appeared when he tapped the screen twice on the shoe's logo.

[Common Winged Shoes] - "Introducing the latest in footwear technology - the Jump Pegasus Shoes! With these shoes, you'll be able to jump not once, but twice in mid-air! That's right, with just one leap you can jump again! And if you have two legs, you can jump four times!

"Sigh.. The description sounds awful and not helping at all.. I'll just get the item first.." murmured Aaron while pressing the 'Obtain' button.

Suddenly, two options to obtain the item appeared. The first one didn't require a token, while the other required him to give a token to collect the item.

Since he wanted to save his token, he picked the first option. His phone camera suddenly turned on and a dialogue box appeared, telling him to find something to transmute into the item he had just received.

Aaron quickly found a box where he stored his old running shoes and scanned them with his phone.

"Wow, so any shoes that look like the winged shoes can be transmuted.."

After a few seconds, the shoes he had picked shone, but nothing changed.

"That's it? Hmm, so it just upgraded the shoes I chose, huh? I hope I'm right.."

He immediately put on the shoes and went outside to test them.

He did a simple stretch and then jumped vertically to see if his jumping height had increased. Effortlessly, he jumped to a height of 3 meters. While landing, he panicked for a bit which almost caused him an injury, but he managed to get through it with his athletic ability.

"I teach children to jump and land, but I almost hurt myself for failing to land properly... Haih.." murmured Aaron as he was going to do another vertical jump to practice for a while.

Since his rented house was located at the edge of the residential area, it faced a 2-meter metal fence. Outside the fences, the area was covered with trees and bushes. The place where he practiced jumping was quite hidden from everyone, especially at night.

Half an hour later, Aaron entered his house with sweat covering his body. He had been jumping non-stop while practicing with the winged shoes. He learned that he could do a double jump and reach a height of 6 meters, but he would not be able to land safely since he already used the second jump moving upward.

He could always use the second jump to land safely. In fact, when he used the second jump to land, it felt softer compared to landing on the ground.

He wanted to practice the horizontal jump, but he felt so tired. Jumping had always been his least preferred cardio exercise because it was so tiring.

The extra roasted chicken he made this evening came in handy. He ate it in the kitchen while cooling himself with the fan there.

"It is almost 9, and I still have a single token left," thought Aaron while looking for a simple journal to read that was related to education using his phone.

He rolled the last token, and his expression changed immediately when a green-colored capsule popped out.

"Yeahhh, nice! Green should be an uncommon grade, right? Just like in RPG games," thought Aaron while staring at the capsule. He immediately read the description.

[Uncommon Mind Reader Pen - The Mind Reader Pen is a special pen that can read the thoughts of the person speaking or being asked by the user]

"Welp.. That sounds OP, but a little more detail would be helpful.." complained Aaron after reading the description. He immediately obtained the pen by transmuting one his recently bought ball pen from Geant today.

Later, he realized that he couldn't test the pen's ability since there was no one available to talk to right now, so he hid the pen under his wooden bed frame.

It was almost midnight, and Aaron had just finished the last essay.

"Damn it.. I am too old for this essay writing thing.." mumbled Aaron as he looked at the app and saw that all the daily quests had been completed, and the app rewarded him with an extra token apart from the third quest.

"Well, that was worth it.. I am going to roll tomorrow since it's already late.. I shouldn't stay up too late." muffled Aaron as he shut down the computer and turned off the lamp. He needed to sleep early since once school started, he had to wake up at least before 6:30 AM every day to work.

"What a weird day.. It felt like a dream.." thought Aaron before he sleep.
