Chapter 34 - Training Ends

With the sweet warmness and golden yellow rays of the sun, the next day came. Lecter got up early, ignoring the cries of his muscles, and got ready to leave home. His mother was against the idea seeing how wounded he was when he returned last night. He hadn't even healed properly and he wanted to leave again.

"Please don't stop me, I have to leave, if I don't go through this, how on earth will I get better? How will I get stronger and prove father wrong?" He said in his defence. Anna was already tired of talking to him and was in a way glad that he was doing his best to ensure he doesn't fail the exams. Honestly, life with his father wouldn't be easy for him if he did.

Moving out of his way and saying nothing more than a 'bye' for the day, she let him leave to the Teferi's or rather, the Silverstones. He called out for Goldfield again and left into the city first to get more arrows.

"How many do I have, huh?" He said and looked at the coins in his hands. "I'll have as much as I need." He then placed some bronze coins on the counter paying for the new bundles of arrows he bought.

"Make sure to come again." The owner of the weapons store said as he left. As he was about to get on his griffin once more, he saw a familiar person wave at him.

"Jarett? What are you doing here so early?" He asked.

"Same goes for you laddie, what brings you here?" Jarett responded with a question of his own.

"Arrows and you?"

"Nothing really, I was just taking a stroll." He replied. "Hey Lecter, have you heard? Darkmoon's entrance exams are coming up soon?"

"Yes, I have and I'm preparing for it." Lecter replied.

"Oh? And how are you doing that? If it wouldn't be a bother, I would like to be a part of it." Jarett said.

"I don't know if he'll take one more, but I met with the twins' father and..."

"Drastic measures." Jarett stopped Lecter from completing his sentence, he had already gotten the message. "I have a feeling he wouldn't mind taking one more kid." He said with a grin. "If that's where you're going, can I tag along?"

"Of course," Lecter replied and got on Goldfield's back. The beast, already used to Jarett let him get on as well and he flew them to the Teferi's house. Landing in the back of the twins family house, they met the three men as well as Kiyan and Raten.

The twins looked tired and had some bandages on their bodies.  Lecter was about to thank the stars he didn't go in the woods with them the day before only to be informed by Agnar he would be joining them in the woods today. Jarett then spoke up saying  he would like to join them in training.

"I thought you would just stay quiet." Agnar said glancing at the boy's physique. "You look tough, let's see how you handle beasts." He smiled and walked off. His sons walked achingly behind him.

"B-b-beasts?" Lecter stuttered.

"This should be fun." Jarett said and walked with the Teferi's, or Silverstones as he knew them to be. Shaking himself back to reality, Lecter ran after them.

"Raymond, would you be so kind?" Agnar spoke still walking forward.

"I'm coming!" Raymond replied spitefully and drank the contents of the cup in his hands. He threw the cup on One-eye before moving off with them. One-eye looked around, saw he was left alone and decided to go take a nap.

In the woods, Agnar told his sons to sit beside him and just watch. Raymond sat on a rock next to Agnar and his sons who sat on the grass covered soil.

"Like I said, I want to see how you would fare against beasts, so you both will face off against them." Agnar spoke and Raymond stretched forth his arm, summoning his staff. As soon as it appeared in his hands, he tapped it on the ground twice. Followed by the tapping were the sounds of heavy footsteps and loud buzzing.

Unlike what Agnar did to his sons, he made sure these lads would get to stand against non-magical beasts, but they would still be highly dangerous. The exams could come up any day, he wanted to help prepare them for anything, not cripple them. Out from the woods came an abnormally large warthog with three eyes and a single horn on its forehead, as well as a large bumblebee with spikes for arms and no stinger.

While Lecter had frozen in fear, Jarett pulled out from his back and large axe with a chain in its end. Before coming to the Teferi's home, he made Lecter stop at his home so he could get a weapon. As the warthog moved, so did he with a huge swing at its head. The warthog was quick and moved out of the way causing the axe to just graze its skin.

"Looks like this one has had a few run-ins with beasts." Raymond said and Agnar nodded in agreement. The twins were both excited and sleepy that they could make no comment and could hardly pay attention to what was happening.

Snapping out of his daze, Lecter aimed his arrow at what he thought was the bee's most feeble part, the head. Letting go off the arrow, it hit the bee's head and bounced back. "Aw geez." His assumption about the head was very wrong. He quickly dodged the spike that came at him.

Raymond didn't say anything on Lecter, it was obvious he hadn't faced a beast before. They silently watched the boys face their animal-like foes while giving them pointers here and there, telling when to block and when to attack.

The struggle went on for a while, with the warthog more hurt than Jarett, and Lecter more hurt than the bee. "Don't you think it's time to step in." Raymond said seeing Jarett was nearly out of breath from facing a fast moving beast, and Lecter well, though he had the will to keep going, his body was extremely weak and he had just one arrow left to play around with.

Pulling on his bow string, he fired at the bee's eye and hit target, causing the bee to move about frantically and was about to go at Lecter who could barely move. He missed a step and fell back, he looked up and saw the beast upon him and looked away immediately not wanting to see his demise. Just as the bee was about to send a spike through his body, a man stood in its way and punched the bee away. It flew off in a distance and fell to the ground no longer able to get up.

Just like that, with a single punch, Agnar had defeated the bee Lecter struggled so much against. Saying nothing to him, Agnar moved quickly to Jarett whose arm had been broken and his axe fallen off to the side, his breathing was heavy and he saw the beast sprint towards him. Just as it leapt forward, Agnar held it by its head and slammed its face to the ground, crushing its skull and killing it in an instant.

"Show off." Raymond scoffed. The twins were busy snoring away in the midst of the chaos happening. They did feel safe with their father and uncle around, so why not?

Agnar picked up Jarett's axe and commended the boy for the good job he did, though he felt they could do better. He taught him how to utilize his weapon better, told him when to slow down, when to defend and when to attack. While he did that, Raymond did same for Lecter. When they were done, Agnar kicked his sons awake and they all left the woods.

Everyday from then on, the four lads would train with Agnar, Raymond, and One-eye as long as they were around. After the week break, Agnar returned to Raven's guild, One-eye and Raymond would be out as well. Only on days they were around would they train the boys till the day for the exams came.

Sitting on a two-storey tall, grey wolf-like beast, with fangs too long and thick for its mouth, three bright green eyes and bat wings bigger than the two grown adults, Agnar looked down at his sons. He immediately jumped off the beast and they gave a little bow.

"You returned today after three months," Kiyan said.

"Well, I had to at least say something before you went off," Agnar responded. "I am sure you didn't miss me, you had your two uncles at your beck and call." He said, though he knew it was most likely false, except the missing part. He could bet his sons did not care for where he went.

"You flew in with Wolverion, you must be busy." One-eye said stroking the hair of the beast.

"I am," Said Agnar. "Boys, I will not get to see you for a very long time, first what are  the rules that must not be broken?" He asked expecting good answers.

"Do not ever, ever, ever, admit to being a Teferi." They replied.

"Two?"

"If asked for our guardian, we will say he is Riyan Silverstone who is a member of the Raven's guild."

"Three?"

"Stay away from the elders and trouble entirely."

"And most importantly?"

"Don't trust anyone."

"Good, you remember." He smiled. "Last thing I would want is for you both to have to go through numerous troubles, running for your lives. Trust me, it isn't fun." He moved closer and placed his hands on a shoulder of each son.

"Go out there and become the greatest wizards this land will ever see. Show them why Teferi is so great." He grinned. Flames then covered up half of his body and lightning coating the other half.

"See you later, boys." He cancelled the abilities and walked off, climbed on Wolverion who spread his wings and flew off.
