The clothing put on Max was still quite messy and out of place.
It showed that he had been in a rush to get dressed and that he had quickly grabbed anything close by.
If he tried to search for something better then he would have made more noise and taken more time to find something more suitable.
The slightest sound created from opening and closing the drawers could have ended up with his parents being woken up by him.
Max had to settle for the clothes that had either not been put away yet or the clothes he discarded after wearing already.
It was too dark to see clearly what he was putting on so he could not see whether everything he put on was appropriate or matched with the other pieces of clothing he put on.
He could not afford to waste any time so he could not bother with changing what had already been put on during his haste.
