"I never meant to hurt you, Lev. I just thought that a little distance was what we both needed," he said in an oddly calm voice, while still maintaining an unruffled expression.
"What gives you the right to decide for me? Huh?" she asked as tears pricked her eyes. The calmness of his voice irked her even more. How could he be so calm right now when her heart was on the verge of imploding?
"I just needed time to figure out what exactly was going on between us," he said weakly.
She nodded repeatedly, in a way that conveyed her understanding. "So then, what did you figure out?" She had a daring look etched on her face.
He shook his head wordlessly, before looking away from her. He couldn't bear to see hatred in the beautiful eyes that once twinkled when she smiled.
