She took a few steps backward. "I will race with Draven and Soren. And you do not have to worry about me. I am a grown woman and can take care of myself."
When he did not say anything more, she brushed past him and headed back to the river. She liked that he was worried about her, but she needed this race. It was the distraction she so badly needed; a little adrenaline rush was a plus.
She waved at Draven as she approached the boat. "Is she good to go?"
He nodded with a polite smile.
Lucien took deep breaths until his racing heart reduced to a steadier beat. Levina was stubborn and gutsy, qualities he both loved and loathed about her. But why did she have to be so stubborn all the time? He knew how competitive racers could get; they did not care who got hurt as long as they won. He was trying to save her from all that. Why could she not see that?
