She watched as hurt flashed across his eyes and felt bad for hurting him. Draven was good and kind; he deserved better.
"Is it because of Lucien? Do you have feelings for him?" he asked.
It certainly was because of Lucien, but she did not have an answer to his second question.
"No. I do not have feelings for Lucien, I could never. I know better than to develop feelings for a man set to marry another," she replied, looking up and finding Lucien still standing in the same spot.
"Lucien has nothing to do with this," she said. "I cannot be with you or anyone else, for that matter."
"Witches live a life of solitude," Rebecca's words replayed in her head.
"You want to live out the rest of your life alone?" he asked, with a hint of pity in his voice.
She hated that hint of pity. She did not need anyone's pity. "Yes. I will live out the rest of my life alone."
