"I have bad news," Lucien announced as he approached the stand where Soren and Draven sat.
They immediately stopped talking and waved at Lucien.
The training ground was filled with only teenage soldiers in training, and the only adults were their instructors. The older soldiers had already taken a leave for the Mwabakr celebration.
Lucien liked to watch the young soldiers practice; they tended to remind him of his younger self. Teenagers fought with anger and pride, qualities that had led even the greatest of soldiers to their doom. He had been there once; he had fought with so much anger in his heart. He was angry at his mother for never acknowledging him and for convincing the king to send him away to fight; angry at his father for agreeing to send him away at such a young age, and mostly angry at the universe for cursing him with the blood and responsibility of royalty.
"Lucien! I have great news!" Soren chattered excitedly when Lucien took a seat.
