"Did Lucien keep his word?" he asked with a grim look on his face. She smiled; Lucien had made a promise to her father to protect her with his life and not let any harm come her way, and he did. She thought with a fond smile on her face.
"Yes, he did."
"I heard what happened and how you saved his life." He did not sound too pleased. Levina braced herself for whatever followed next.
"You started practicing sorcery, haven't you?"
Levina let go of his hand. "I had no choice, Father. I couldn't let Prince Lucien die."
"It's not your job to protect him! You can't put yourself at risk to protect a stranger."
"He's not a stranger," she insisted, her brows furrowing in a frown. "He's my friend."
Augustus scoffed. "Is that what you think? Don't be naive, Levina!" he raised his voice. "He's only nice to you because he doesn't know what you are yet! Do you know what he would do if he finds out who you are?"
