"I don't bite, Arabelle." The man's gracious voice sounded right beside her. Yes, she knew he wouldn't do anything to her. Instead, she was scared of what she would do. They hadn't known each other for so long but he could evoke a reaction out of her.
She felt a movement beside and then the sound of a door opening, then closing soon after. Asher had left the room.
Arabelled yawned. She finally felt relaxed and free. She had been so stiff when he was in the room.
Her mind suddenly wandered off to the events of the last few days. She couldn't still believe the fact she had met a gorgeously handsome and mysterious man who would help her get her revenge on Mr. Diaz and his family. She had no idea of who he was but at that point, she felt less concerned. He had the two things she needed. Power and money. But she also knew, she had to work her way up slowly.
Through him, she could get her revenge. She was certainly in no rush since slow and steady wins the race after all.
Her eyes soon fluttered close amidst all her thinking.
...
Arabelle eyes opened and the first thing thing that greeted her eyes was Asher's sleeping face.
Her eyes widened when she finally realized her face had been pressed to his chest and his arms were around his waist. They were in such an intimate position.
"Morning." His voice sounded above her head. His morning voice sounded so lazy and seductive. She could feel the tingling feeling in her stomach.
"Why am I here?" She asked, her eyes narrowed at him whilst ignoring his greeting. She sprung up from her lying position, when he released her from his hold.
A devilish smirk graced Asher's lips. His eyes had a mischievous glint in them but it quickly disappeared when he spoke, making him have a serious look. "I didn't cling to you at first. You willingly rolled over to my side and you hugged me first, and since I have a very chivalrous attitude, I decided not to wake you up."
He then added flatly. "You're so ungrateful, little bunny. Especially since you used me as your body warmer throughout the entire night. I think it was you who abused my body instead." He sounded so pitiful like as if she had molested him.
Arabelle was beyond dumbfounded. The man had somehow managed to put the entire blame on her.
'This man is too..' Her mind blanked out as she inwardly complained. She had no idea of which word to use on him.
Her eyes went up to the golden clock hung elegantly in the middle of the room and in an instant, she jumped up from the bed as if she heard news that someone close to her died.
"I am going to be so late." She put on her flip flops as she rushed into the bathroom. She had totally forgotten that she was meant to go to work today but her luck wasn't that good. She woke up late.
She had her bath in a flash, and then she rushed out of the bathroom. She heaved a sigh of relief when she saw a set of formal clothes on the bed. A pair of heels were also provided for her. She had already begun to worry when she remembered that she had no clothes here. She definitely needed to talk to Asher about it.
The clothes set out for her was a black high waisted skirt and a white long sleeved shirt.
She put on the clothes and walked out of the room. She was still awed by how big the house was. She rushed down the stairs, before heading to the living room. It was no surprise when she saw Asher there, settled on a cushion, with his leg crossed while scrolling through his phone.
She stopped in front of him. "I don't really know this place and I need to go to work." She was indirectly insinuating that she needed a car to get to her workplace.
Asher rested his face on his hands, gazing at her intently. "The driver is outside. Eat when you get to work."
Arabelle nodded. When she was about to step out of the house, he spoke again. "And remember the needful." Arabelle's brows furrowed at that. What was he saying? She ignored his words, walking out of the house towards the driver that was waiting near the gate.
'I have no time to solve his riddle-like words.' She thought inwardly, forcefully brushing the matter aside in her head.
"Ma'am." The driver greeted, opening the car door for her and she smiled before nodding in acknowledgement.
After she had gotten in, the driver got in as well, before carefully speeding along the smooth road.
The air in the speeding car was calm. But it didn't take long for it to be broken by the sound of a phone which rang out throughout the entire car.
Arabelle, who had been staring out of the window, was jolted out of her reverie. Her sharp eyes glanced at the name of the person that illuminated the phone screen. AVA.
Ava was her long time close friend since she was in college. They had met each other on the first day of college and had hit it off almost immediately.
Arabelle picked the phone up from her side and her hands swiped across the phone screen.
"Hey, babe." Arabelle winced at the loud voice that came from the phone. Ava was a loud and bubbly girl. She was a complete extrovert while she was an ambivert. A mix of an introvert and extrovert.
"Hey." Arabelle replied, rather flatly.
"You didn't call me at all for the past two weeks. I called and you didn't pick. Which kind of friend are you? You are so heartless, you fool. You didn't even miss my beautiful self at all?"
Arabelle rolled her eyes. Even she herself sometimes couldn't believe that such an overly dramatic and talkative girl was her friend. She often developed a headache when she usually called her. Ava could talk for hours.
