"Halt!" Declared one of the watchguard who protect the gate leading to the town's square.
"I'm from the Vondur guild. Please let us pass, as for the girl inside. She's one of the nobility from a foreign land. That's why she doesn't have a pass yet." responded Houdi with a calm and amiable expression, with his experience as a merchant, getting through the checkpoint is something he is used to. Compare to all the bloody mess that was a couple hours ago.
"Hm...you're authorized to pass. However, as for the girl. She will have to abide by the law. You know that well, Mr. Vondur."
"First, she will be responsible for her own actions, if we found out that she notoriously ruin the town's peace, she will be kicked out according to the law."
"Second, she must state her age. As the mayor have set a precedent for all sentient races, due to some public moral formality."
"Right, i almost forgot. Uhm...this is a bit awkward but, Miss Yui. How old are you again?"
"19." Replied Auyu while looking distantly at the window, she was bona fide curious on the social structure of this town and how it support itself. As a princess, she naturally has a inclination toward knowing the general populace better. Aside from sleeping and lazing that is.
"Oh...you're two years older than me." replied Houdi with a elation as Auyu can see that he was a little shy for some reason. She thought of why, but couldn't figure out the logic behind it. Cause, there can be numerous reasons due the differences in how people often thinks. But since Houdi is helping her, she wouldn't intrude too much on his personal space. Aside it's tedious to engage herself into another's feeling.
'I almost slipped out the thought Miss Yui was younger than me...she was so small compared to me, my sincere apologies...But perhaps that's how Munes are?' Houdi sweated as he had conversation with her, and he could pick up some hint that she was sensitive about her own height.
Also, there was another thing i wouldn't dare talk to her about.
It's the book, or a diary as she said it...It give me an ominous vibes. But i can tell it's a special item for her, as she would carry it on her all of the time. To describe it as paranoia would be understating it...
As the guards allowed access, Houdi proceed with the carriage which opened to the same incredible scene, but upclose variation of it.
"This is fun." Auyu muttered to herself, she knew outside would be interesting, but that was only that. But just like any tourist visiting a new place for the first time, Auyu wasn't the exception to the 'awe effect'.
She looked upon the pedestrian wandering the street from the carriage, while it was during normal hours, she could see all sort of wonderful races aside from the majority of humans.
Houdi seeing this precious scene, decided to slow down for her to proccess all the spectacle. Since he also was similar in a way, when he first came to this town. This common shared interest made him realized, that while Auyu may be a good fighter, she is certainly a better pacifist than he intially realized.
As the carriage stop, and Auyu got off it. She went to discuss with Houdi. As she had an idea on where to begin her presence in town.
"Hey, Hey! Houdi, you know about the mercenary guild right, may i get some inside information regarding that?" I uttered with a strange accent, as i'm attempted to be intimidating and cool, but it doesn't work in reality. As Houdi ignored my strange tone and deliberate on my words.
"Can miss Auyu wait for a couple minutes? it will not take unreasonable long, it will be worth the wait. I promise!" dejectedly Houdi looked at me with a shaky tone, as I understood that he must have worried to disappointed me somehow with his request.
"Not at all, it's not like i'm in a hurry right? It'll be waiting here. Don't worry about it." I console him as to not worry, i'm somewhat in a good mood. It won't take as long pretty sure. Besides i can just look at the giant pillar in the center there. It's enough for now. I gestured with a pat on the shoulder as he ran off in haste. Possibly due to having being encouraged.
------------------------------------------------------
I went over the information division. With my determination, i politely ask those working there for some detailed report of the mercenary guild for beginner, here's hoping that Miss Yui would think favorably of it...
As i examine the content, i feel as though my lips curled upward again...i don't know why that happened so much recently. Maybe because i was happy that Miss Yui was culprit of my forturnate occurance?
But, as soon i finished reading the report. My lip moved in the opposite direction, as i look at a newcomer that came to meet me.
"Well, well well. If it isn't my little brother? I've heard you cause quite a mess in the forest, surely you didn't tarnish our family name by bringing in a savage woman, is that so. Houdini?" venomiously expressed a young man with glamourous silk-like clothing that is adorned with many jewerly and larvish gold accessory, as he gazed down on Houdi with a sneer and a stature that put everyone else beneath him.
"Khrusos...i won't tolerate you speaking ill of my savior, i suggest you keep that tone to yourself, as i did my run successfully. You know our father only want results. You wouldn't dare go against our family's rule, do you?" retorted Houdi as he wasn't on good terms with his brother at all. He could only give a small nod with expressionless outlook, he would rather spend time with his savior than to be with this garbage human who looks after profits and his own reputation.
Ever since our mother died, our path has already diverge. With no point of return. However, as a respect for our family bond. I won't hold it against him.
"You damn...lowly brother. You think hiding behind our father would save you? This world isn't as peaceful as you think little brother. It's feast or famine, you're too naive if you think we can survive off of being respectful and bowing like a dog!" spew Khrusos large amount of insults, as he become enraged by my nonchalant attitude.
"Sure, whatever. I'll just take my leave now, have fun with those ornament and women, brother. I'm going to find my own happiness in the way that doesn't involve dirtying my hands, oh. I should also remind you."
Houdi stared back at his big brother, his eyes devoid of any empathy or attachment toward the person in front of him, as if he looked at an ugly thorn of roses.
"I don't care that you sent those bandits toward me, but if your next goal is to target Miss Yui. I won't be as kind when talking to you next time.
I don't care if we fought, as we've done that for our the duration of childhood, however we've always adhere to our morals to not involve bystanders." declared Houdi as he had hoped that his big brother would have some remaining sanity to remember the essence of being selfless.
I hope i continue to be of use to Miss Yui. Although i know that i'm being used by her, i somehow had faith in her that she might saved me.
She is the only one i could be honest with, and it reminds me of those stories. The righteous beings that save people out of the good will of their heart.
I had already believe in it, because i saw it myself. And to Miss Yui, who gave me the feeling of having a family...i really wanted to thank you.
And so, i came back. A little later than i promised. I fervently bow and uttered many sincere apologies and repentant words. She only replied with that she doesn't need it, as if she already treated me as one of her own subconciously and took the report without even criticizing it...i think i wasn't mistaken.
"Whew, that took a while to console the scaredy cat. Really, what's up with him? I should really ask for him to find a doctor, or something. Oh well!" Auyu pondered as she walked over the busiest street where it filled with many vendor selling their harvest goods or junk found somewhere outside.
"Ashoka mercernary guild, what a strange name? Apparently it to honor a fallen emperor. But who am i kidding? I need to get in the most normal way i know of."
Auyu opened the door to the guild, it has an inn feeling to it. As many gathered on their own table as if marking it as their own. As she read the report, the guild consist of many mercenary huddled together as factions and make contributions based of it. With the exception of a few beth and a daleth ranker that does things based on their own whims.
Auyu having no reason to converse with them, decidedly go forward to the receptionist, who was a bearded looking man and his wife that seems to be a race called 'Crysalis', basically a pale albino looking humanoid with a special trait of circle shaped horns that has an ability to communicate telepathically.
"I want to apply for the Ruby rank!" i annouced it for everyone in the hall to hear, as the couples receptionist are looking at me with ashen grim face.
Let the show begin...
