The name's Addison. Grew up in a small town where everyone knows each other. It was always just my best friend Jackson and I, our mother's were best friends since junior high. We didn't do relationships, not that we couldn't get them, just that we didn't want them. He was older than me by a year. He was the guy every girl wanted but he didn't want them. He was a flirt but it never went past that. People at school thought we were a couple with how much time we spend hanging out and how well we got along.
Jackson Reynolds, my best friend with piercing blue eyes and light brown hair gave him a sweet and friendly look but his personality was hardcore and rough around the edges. As for me, I was the opposite. I wasn't perfect, I was average with dirty blonde hair and green eyes, and nothing about me was attractive. People would say differently. It was a constant thing brought up but anybody who took it too far dealt with Jackson.
Our fathers are in the air force so we hardly see them. I was on our school's softball team and we had our end-of-the-year tournament. Jackson hardly came to my games only because I begged him not to but today he did because we had plans afterward. I was standing with some of the girls, and every single one of them was obsessed with Jackson. Callie nudged me "How'd you get Jackson to come?" I raised my eyebrows "Um." She squealed "Can you ask him if he'd go out with me?" I cringed "We don't involve ourselves in that stuff" she begged then the coach saved me just in time.
We went to our positions and the game began; I caught eyes with Jackson who smiled at me but I looked away and continued our game. After the game, Callie began again "Come on Addison, just ask him for me. You're the only girl he talks to." I looked at her "I'm not his gatekeeper, ask him for yourself." I walked to meet up with Jackson and my family, I got stopped by another girl named Samira "Addison!"
I turned in her direction "She's only being nice to you because you're close to Jackson" I nodded my head "I don't really care why she is" she smirked "Well you didn't get picked because you're good. I'm just telling you that." I looked down "I mean I guess but your swings were looking pretty bad so I guess you don't have room to talk."
Jackson came up overhearing the conversation "Was that even a swing? I thought you were playing golf with my grandma." I tried to hide my smile, she exhaled and ignored his comment by flirting with him "Hey Jackson." he looked at her but looked back at me ignoring her. She got frustrated and left, Jackson and I were talking when Callie came up "Hey Jackson." He glanced at her but away.
Callie looked at me and exhaled then said "We're having a party tonight. Want to be my date?" Jackson looked dead in her eyes and said "Pass, I have plans." I look at him and then back at her, she was trying to signal for me to help her out. He grabbed my hand "We're already late." We left and got into his 1992 Camaro "Why can't you just give one of those girls a chance? They're already in love with you." He chuckled "Desperation isn't attractive or cute."
He drove out of the parking lot, I turned the radio up and we started singing the song on. He glanced at me while I danced, he smiled and laughed. This was our life, school, and random concerts in the car. He turned the radio down "Are you taking your driver's test tomorrow?" I looked at him "Yes I'm so nervous!" He pulled over onto the dirt road "Drive us home." My jaw dropped "Noo you love your car." He smiled "Come on. You have to pass this."
He jumped out running to my side, pulling me out, and jumping in my seat. I crossed my arms "Jackson!" He glanced up at me "Get in dork." I smirked "I will crash it." He smiled with a smirk "Then we both die." I walked to the driver's side and got in. I pulled the seat forward and pulled my seatbelt over my chest. I put it in drive and pressed too much on the gas then slammed onto the brake.
Jackson laughed "Calm down Addison. Barely tap it, you're ok." I tried it again and caught on fast; he clapped "See! Not that hard." I drove us to my house without getting hit. I have driven before in my mom's car but Jackson's is a lot more sensitive.
As usual, my mom wasn't home, we sat on the couch across from each other and pulled out our homework. I was writing out my work for my math when he reached across and wrote hi on my paper. I smiled looking up and he started laughing "Hi." I took my pencil and drew a line across his paper. His jaw dropped and he inhaled "You did not!" I laughed "Do your homework dork." I finished up and stood up; I went upstairs and came back downstairs in my swimsuit "Like my new bikini?"
He looked back, grabbed the blanket from the couch, jumped up, and threw it around me "No. Cover up dork." I smirked and threw swim shorts at him "Meet me outside when you're done idiot." He closed his book, pulled his shirt off, and ran outside dropping his pants to his swim shorts "Way ahead of you Addison!" He jumped in the pool, I sat on the ledge with my feet in. He swam up to my legs and dragged me in.
I came back up "Jackson!" He smirked "I only helped you in." I swam toward him and jumped on his shoulders pushing him under the water. Then started swimming away, he came back up and grabbed my foot pulling me toward him. He lifted me up and threw me into the water. I swam to the edge, he swam over "Are you okay?" I nodded "I swallowed some water."
I looked up at him and he was staring at me. I laughed "Don't look at me like that." He dunked under water coming up underneath me, I sat on his shoulders and he fell back. I came up and grabbed his shoulder to hold myself up "Jackson!" He wiped the water from his face and smiled "What did you expect?" We turned to my mom opening the door "Are you two crazy?" Jackson replied, "I had the assumption."
I splashed him in the face, and my mom rolled her eyes "Did you guys eat?" I climbed out with Jackson behind me. I ran to hug her; she locked the sliding glass door and yelled "I don't think so." Jackson tossed my towel at me "Want to run and get some food?" I smirked "I'm down." He dried his hair and went to the door, we went upstairs and changed. We ran back downstairs to my mom on the couch, I asked "We're going to get food, want something?"
She looked up and shook her head no "I have to get back to work." I frowned for a second but smiled "Okay." Jackson and I left. He looked at me "Are you okay?" I nodded but stayed quiet. He pulled over and parked. My mom is a flight attendant and is always gone so I hardly ever see her. Jackson turned to me "I know you wish she would be around more." I looked up "Can we get food please?" He nodded.
We got food and headed to his parent's house, we watched a movie, ate and I stayed the night. Jackson understood, his mom wasn't around much either but she was close if an emergency happened.
