When Louis called, Evelyn was wide awake, tossing and turning in bed. The sudden buzzing of the phone caught her off guard.
Marlon's phone was charging on the TV stand in the living room. She quickly put on a robe and got out of bed. Picking up the phone, she saw Louis's name on the screen.
It felt like she had grabbed something burning hot, and with a loud crash, she dropped the phone onto the wooden floor. Thankfully, it didn't break and kept buzzing. Evelyn bent down to pick it up, debating whether to hang up or turn it off. After a few seconds of hesitation, she gathered her courage and answered.
Louis's uninterested voice came through, "Henry, what happened to Alicia at Treasure Trove today?"
Evelyn stayed quiet for a moment, quickly collecting her thoughts.
In a gentle tone, she said, "Oh, it's you, Louis. Henry's been asleep for a while. Is there something you need, calling so late?"
