Lucas revved the engine, and Madelyn quickly stepped aside. As the car zoomed away, she stood there, glaring at the disappearing car. Her face turned pale, and she felt completely down, like she'd fallen into a freezing pit.
Once the car was totally out of sight, she slowly turned and walked towards Treasure Trove. Her legs felt wobbly, and she dragged herself into the store. Marlon was at the counter, looking at a vase with detailed flower designs through a giant magnifying glass.
Swinging her slender hips, Madelyn went up to him and whined, "Grandpa, you don't care about me at all, do you?"
Marlon pushed his reading glasses up his nose and looked at her calmly. "If this is about Alicia, forget it."
Madelyn held back the words she wanted to say.
Annoyed, she announced, "I want you to teach me, too."
Marlon slid the vase with the flower pattern towards her.
